I don't mean a monitor these are digital ov sticks

Mel3062 · 28/08/2013 12:56

Thanks ill get those too!!

brownstag · 28/08/2013 13:01

I've always found those NHS ones excellent. I get a surge every month followed by a temperature shift. Yet some people don't get positives on them despite being clearly fertile. All about catching the right moment.
I just rang the South-East fertility Clinic and asked about egg freezing. They don't do it but said it was possible though not really recommended at 42. I've emailed for info at 2 places in London, one in Harley street.

duggs1976 · 28/08/2013 14:03

I've heard they prefer to freeze embryos rather than eggs if there is a choice as slightly higher survival rates once thawed..... Could you do that perhaps? Or is OH totally head in sand?

Mel I have been taking DHEA for a month now 3x25mg tablets a day and have just had my levels retested. They are now too high so I have to reduce to just one tablet. I was told you need to take them for a minimum of three months for them to have an effect as your eggs take 3 months to mature. Were you told that Brown.

Way back when we started ttc, nearly five years ago, we used digi ov sticks but never got a smiley face even on the months we conceived. So we gave up. Most recently we have used duo fertility which records your temp all the time via a little button that you wear. You download the data to your computer where it charts all your info. It is expensive but if you wear it for a year and don't get pregnant they will refund your money. We got pregnant at least twice using this.

Mel3062 · 28/08/2013 15:28

Thanks belly ill just take the one then. Yikes I thought a clearblue moniter was a purchase! Think itl have to wait til next month as just paid out for prof quenby, sounds good though x

brownstag · 28/08/2013 15:33

Duggs, yes, you're right. But I couldn't persuade him, and that's really why I want to do it. He can't stop me doing it with my eggs and it's my money. It's dreadful to say, but at the back of my mind is the possibility of us splitting up over this and then my having wasted my fertile years (although to be fair, they were over years ago!). I want to put something in the bank, so to speak. In any case, maybe round the corner are new techniques that will enable those eggs to be used more effectively. It seems as if egg freezing is comparable to IVF costwise, plus storage costs. In all probability there are no eggs to be had though! But at least in that case I would know and not beat myself up forever that I didn't have IVF, or blame my DH that he wasn't willing to try it.
Belly, yes, and in fact probably more like 6 months to get maximum effect. I conceived after 7 months, and then immediately after that pregnancy conceived again. I was never tested for levels though. Who did yours and how much did it cost?

duggs1976 · 28/08/2013 17:34

Hey well brown it is pretty clear you want to freeze some eggs to buy you some time and all for very valid reasons so I'd say if you can afford it go for it. Wish I'd done it at 21. Apparently the Americans are buying it for their daughters rather than a car!!! I guess if you never need to use them then fabulous. If you do then they are 21 yrs old. Can't ask for better than that. Yes brown do you know where you might go?

The only ones who have got back to me so far are Create Health Clinics, and that works out about £3.5K. Which is slightly more than I've saved in my ISA. They have a clinic in Harley Street.
The annoying thing is that some years ago I spoke to my GP about egg freezing and he said my eggs were in the best place for them, in the ovary, nice and warm. Yes, nice and warm, but ageing and degrading. Bad advice all in all! If only I'd got private advice.
Anyway, I didn't, and all I can say is that my eggs must be better now than they will be in a year's time. If there are any there at all.
How are you feeling Duggs?

duggs1976 · 28/08/2013 21:37

You are not that old are you brown? I don't think your eggs are that bad yet? I totally get wanting to get em out and freeze them where they are now. Totally. I'm ok. Feeling pretty fine most of the time which is a bit disconcerting. Should be 8 wks today based on LMP but on last scan I am 7wks 3 days so 4 days difference. It was last Friday and I'm supposed to wait to have a 9 wk scan.
Brother in law has just arrived tonight from Australia. He is here on business for a week and staying with us for most of it. Bit tricky not drinking and not saying anything as I look like a Heffa anyway and I slink off to bed even earlier than usual but he hasn't seemed to have noticed. Too wrapped up in telling us about his new car raahhhh rahhhh. Have had 5 other pregnancy announcements so it's just embarrassing saying anything anymore so can't even be arsed. It does take my mind off things as he and his partner (Pete) talk about travelling and cocktails and gay, lovely things which are so far removed from children that it is quite nice tbh. For a while at least.
How is ari and mel and sue are you back yet sue?

Brown I was tested before I started taking the DHEA at TDL. I can't remember exactly how much the test was as I had my vitamin d done at the same time - but about £100. My levels of DHEA were 1.8 and my testosterone was 0.5. A month later they are 19 and 4 respectively. Gulp! Mel everyone reacts differently to it so I would ask your specialist about it to be on the safe side.

Mel3062 · 29/08/2013 06:08

Umm ok I won't take another then. I'm seeing nhs rmc consultant Monday so I may ask her or do I ask mr s? although I don't think hel be much help?!
I'm ok thanks duggs, finding it abit hard at the moment but we all go through that!
Silly me I looked on my cupboard and I Already had the digital opk test too! Not the advanced one though- it had out of date sticks but I've heard it's ok to still use them-doh!!

Mel3062 · 29/08/2013 06:10

Brown I'd never even thought of freezing my eggs :( why is everything so expensive .(
Duggs glad your coping ok- 8 weeks would be a milestone for me. It's all sounding good so far x

brownstag · 29/08/2013 08:29

Mel, so far not many babies have been born using frozen eggs, and in the past the freezing process wasn't so good, so fewer eggs survived, but now there's a new process which is much better. As Duggs said, using frozen embryos is more successful. I would just hope that technology has moved on a lot by the time I get to use any frozen eggs so that success rates are better.
Duggs, I can totally understand how refreshing it is to be with people for whom life carries on without any reference to babies. I have a friend who says 'Roll on the menopause' as she's always loathed everything to do with children, and hates having to use contraception, and being with her makes a welcome change of attitude.
As to my eggs, I need 7.5mg of letrozole, so I think I don't respond particularly well to superovulation. I chuck an egg out every month naturally but if you step on the gas, I suspect you'd still get one egg.

Mel3062 · 29/08/2013 20:31

Umm did a clearblue digital opk yest and no face, did one tonight and got smily on day 9! So looks like an early ovulation again- last month was day 12 apparently, I've always been day 15 mostly. Is it ok this early??

duggs1976 · 29/08/2013 23:12

You've got 36 hr window so prob means ov day 11? Is ok better than late as can be over ripe and you should only get LH surge when lead follicle is large enough 17mm or more so I'd take as a healthy sign. Look out for the mucus good luck x

Happy shagging mel Smile

Currently hooked up to intralipids although couldn't get blood test yesterday so hoping not a waste of money I don't have!! Have had blood test done here so desperately hoping ok, pregnancy test has got darker so fingers crossed!!

Hope everyone ok and looking forward to weekend, how are you doing Ari ?

brownstag · 30/08/2013 10:16

I think that's age, sadly, Mel! My ovulation has been getting earlier and earlier. Used to be day 19 average, often later, now 15. But I also think superovulation treatments have got my body into better habits of more normal ovulation times. Good luck with the bonking.

brownstag · 30/08/2013 10:43

Sounds good Pebbles.

Mel3062 · 30/08/2013 13:00

Ha ha thanks ladies its hard work convincing oh! Pebbles sounds positive x

Pebbles73 · 30/08/2013 17:09

Had results this afternoon and only gone up to 233 so not viable. Blood test Monday through doctors just in case ectopic. Not sure how I got through afternoon of work, think I am a little numb and used to the worse I guess and realised it really isn't going to happen for us. One frostie to use and then I guess that's the end of the road.

Mel3062 · 30/08/2013 17:30

Oh pebbles I'm so sorry x

BellyD · 30/08/2013 18:01

Pebbles devastated for you x
