Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

@melonraspberry re: phone originally on ground, yes, I noted that too & posted upthread.

The original finder that tied dog to bench, did she not look at collar? She couldn’t recall immediately the dog/owner details & that would have given, name, poss an address & a number. Did she try to call that number? If not why not. This early finding narrative of dog & phone feels very garbled. Earliest narrative now forgotten, discarded or disputed? I would expect anyone who tied dog to bench to try to call the dog owner.

Willow wears a collar in other dog photos as well as harness.

Maybe that person didn't have their phone

I wasn't thinking of the obvious one but fully computerized bank accounts and more CCTV per sqm than most places in the world (not always maintained and working properly, typically).
When my aunt upped sticks and disappeared leaving two young children with their dad (turbulent marriage) , social media was not yet a useful tool, Ring never existed, it was not all joined up and there was not as much pressure on Police to deliver an immediate update on the missing person. It certainly never even made the local news, the Police told my uncle to give it time and sure enough, we found out that she had gone off with a man from her hometown. It took months to build up even a partial picture.

If you wanted to disappear then you would do your homework first, it could be something that's planned for weeks if not months. I could be way off the mark here.

TheUsualChaos · 07/02/2023 10:07

I don't think it's that odd with the person finding the dog. They said they had to get to an appointment. One would naturally assume the owner would be nearby looking for the dog so I think they simply thought they were helping by making sure the dog couldn't run off any further.

Return2thebasic · 07/02/2023 10:07

I didn't follow very closely (reading everything that the police said or media reported). But I got an impression that there's nearly zero chance for her to walk away from that area without being captured by a CCTV? Is that true? If so, I think the police do have their point about the only possibility, no?

Is the series of events that the woman who found the dog at 9:33 then tied it up and left for an appointment and then either returned and called DIL who called PA / school ? And PA called police immediately at 10:50?

That's the only bit that doesn't make sense, if Nicola walked away then surely she would have tied the dog up herself so it wouldn't follow her?

The river road they are asking for dashcam footage for now, doesn't have cctv.

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 10:09

@Hungrycaterpillarsmummy true, nearly all of us do, most of time? She also ‘called’ a relative at some stage?

Think there is one exit CCTV not working - allotment lane / caravan park - so she could have left / been removed through this route which goes onto the main road. Or is still in that area but not in the river

Once you walk back onto the bridge at allotment Lane, onto the main road, it's very simple to cross into the field on the other side, then it's open countryside.
I'll try and get a photo to show you

Cctv wasn't working at one of the entrances.

Exactly. Which to me makes it seem really unlikely she had left willingly with someone as surely the dog would be trying to follow and be found near a road perhaps?
I just seems like the dog had lost sight of her during their walk and was running about confused and lost.

kirinm · 07/02/2023 10:13

If she had wanted to walk away, would she have known that the CCTV wasn't working? It would seem a bit of a fluke and she wouldn't have been able to "walk away" if the CCTV had been working.

Return2thebasic · 07/02/2023 10:13

@ofwarren , @User45378754 , oh thanks. Wasn't away of that. Then it does change the plot profoundly...

Plitvice · 07/02/2023 10:13

Would she deliberately leave her dog off lead before leaving, being a dog lover? I suppose that she knew the field was gated and the dog was in a familiar setting so nothing bad would likely happen to the dog but still odd? If she had tied him to the bench before leaving then he may have become noisy and drawn attention to her leaving.

Re the phone, she could have also had a burner phone (as some people do).

kirinm · 07/02/2023 10:13

The image in my head of the dog running around agitated is really upsetting. I cannot imagine wanting to walk away from my small children. I really hope that isn't what has happened. Seems worse, somehow.

We used to walk that way all the time.
I'm trying to get my Google maps to do the little man thing to go onto ground level to show you.

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 10:14

@Togoodtobeforgotten apparently the early witness who tied dog to bench debated with a man on scene about the chances of an accident, a ‘medical event’ & he added that ‘fishing bait’ likely lured dog to river’s edge.

Source, local paper early report & mirror article linked upthread.

But if she's really on foot away on her own will, certainly there are other CCTV in the region to pick up the trace?

Tamarindtree · 07/02/2023 10:15

Togoodtobeforgotten · 07/02/2023 09:33

I think if she is not found by this guy today that she has possibly walked away from her life, people are creatures of habit it's a walk she done quite often by all accounts so she would know who would probably be where and when on that walk and where the best route to take with being seen by many people. Given the last few turbulent years with covid maybe she had just had enough and felt like there was perhaps no other way to do it and given the very small timeline.

Yet her Facebook page which she set to public depicts a lovely happy family life full of outings and holidays with her partner and children.

kirinm · 07/02/2023 10:16

What do people mean by "walk away"? Do they mean suicide? If so, wouldn't they have found her anyway?

But the sad thing is you don't know what's going on in someone else's life, perhaps she's desperately unhappy.

Yes, that's also what make me difficult to imagine a different scenario. The two little girls...

I don't know if you can tell from this photo, but on the right is the path to allotment Lane and if you look to the left, there is a stile into that field. The road is only narrow so very easy to cross and sounds like no cctv there with them asking for dashcam footage.

Would help if I attached the photo
