Just thought I'd create a second thread for those following this case.

I think quite often with "missing" cases it is known where people are or who they are with, they're just not where they're supposed to be.

I work with vulnerable teens. Our children are often missing. They are at risk and need to be returned home, but usually it is known who they are with/where they are and they have gone "voluntarily".

On the ground not in

That's ridiculous. LBC has given this story loads of coverage. There isn't anything new to report. Thousands have died in Turkey and quite rightly that is being given major coverage. Turkey isn't in London. And a Met Police officer is about to be sentenced for some of the most horrific rapes ever recorded.

I didn’t say those other items weren’t important or shouldn’t be covered. If it was in London you would be hearing about it on every broadcast every day.

Ie you'll see reports of missing children on FB etc, but that doesn't necessarily mean "lost"

"If she went to look something in the river she may have put on the bench."

Well yeah, except that for over 10 days now it's been reported as being found on the floor by the woman who tethered the dog to the bench (where she also set the phone that she'd found on the floor)

I can't see how an iphone would have no marks on it to show that it had been handled by another person with different sized hands. I'm not talking about fingerprints necessarily but even glove marks get imprinted. If the phone had been handled by somebody other than Nicola then they would have said.

It was handled by the witnesses who recognised her screensaver and couldn’t unlock it.

Mistressofnone · 07/02/2023 09:27

@melonraspberry totally agree with your posts. It's interesting to see how genuinely baffled he is by this case, drawing on experience. Seems to be leaning towards the items being left as a decoy.

You are right, they stated that but never mentioned any other evidence of it being handled.

kirinm · 07/02/2023 09:31

@Diverging that just isn't true. I often get WhatsApp messages for people missing in London - in my area - and it doesn't mark the news. There was a nurse missing, not long after Sarah Everard, in Camberwell and there was basically no reporting of her disappearance until about a day or two her body was found by children in the main park in camberwell!

Togoodtobeforgotten · 07/02/2023 09:33

I think if she is not found by this guy today that she has possibly walked away from her life, people are creatures of habit it's a walk she done quite often by all accounts so she would know who would probably be where and when on that walk and where the best route to take with being seen by many people. Given the last few turbulent years with covid maybe she had just had enough and felt like there was perhaps no other way to do it and given the very small timeline.

Plitvice · 07/02/2023 09:38

I dunno. Even though it has always been a possibility, it is harder than ever before to do a disappearing act because we are constantly tracked by technology.

Sally090807 · 07/02/2023 09:41

If she fell in the river it’s strange none of her items have been found, hat, headphones, car keys, dog poo bags (I always carry them loose in my pocket) etc

And perhaps that's why she left her mobile behind?

I might just be clutching at straws here, but did anyone else notice the stutter and hesitation where he said "near the area where th-th-the-er phone was found".

Obviously he could have been tripping over his words as he was in front of a TV camera, but if he stopped himself from saying something he shouldn't (something else that has been found by police but not disclosed). Yesterday he ambiguously said something about based in evidence they have , he thinks she is in the river.

Frazzledmummy123 · 07/02/2023 09:47

He also said this morning " Where she fell into the river" rather than 'where she may have fallen in'. I wonder what is being withheld?

Togoodtobeforgotten · 07/02/2023 09:47

See thinking about it logically say she was going to harm herself then it wouldn't have mattered whever she had her mobile or not. If she's not in the river I still think the window of time is way to small for foul play. So therefore the only other conclusion is she has walked away and the mobile was used as a decoy.

Mistressofnone · 07/02/2023 09:47

And if it was with the help of someone in the caravan park, they would be able to track all vehicles leaving, plus dash cam footage.

And wasn't her fitbit off from the Tuesday prior? It wasn't 'syncing' from then apparently.

Perhaps. The police were so adament she was there so there has to be information they know that we don't.
That said, they seem to be changing their tune a bit now so who knows. A very bizarre case, story is changing all the time.

Absolutely she would just need someone waiting in the caravan park with a car.

Or, she went the way the police are suggesting, back along the river path and out to the main road, and someone picked her up there.

Togoodtobeforgotten · 07/02/2023 09:42

I wasn't thinking of the obvious one but fully computerized bank accounts and more CCTV per sqm than most places in the world (not always maintained and working properly, typically).
When my aunt upped sticks and disappeared leaving two young children with their dad (turbulent marriage) , social media was not yet a useful tool, Ring never existed, it was not all joined up and there was not as much pressure on Police to deliver an immediate update on the missing person. It certainly never even made the local news, the Police told my uncle to give it time and sure enough, we found out that she had gone off with a man from her hometown. It took months to build up even a partial picture.

melonraspberry · 07/02/2023 09:57

I don’t think Faulding is hiding anything. He’s clearly had media training but isn’t the best speaker. He is a logistical practical expert, not a natural communicator .

Peverellshire · 07/02/2023 10:01

@melonraspberry re: phone originally on ground, yes, I noted that too & posted upthread.

The original finder that tied dog to bench, did she not look at collar? She couldn’t recall immediately the dog/owner details & that would have given, name, poss an address & a number. Did she try to call that number? If not why not. This early finding narrative of dog & phone feels very garbled. Earliest narrative now forgotten, discarded or disputed? I would expect anyone who tied dog to bench to try to call the dog owner.

Willow wears a collar in other dog photos as well as harness.
