Lymond · 08/04/2010 18:52

interesting blog post from a mother of a DS daughter who was blasted by a 5-10 minute diatribe containing all the old stereotypes about people with DS at a Frakie Boyle show. I'm turning off any TV show he's on in future.

blog here

Grauniad article on it here

very well said fridgeraiders. I agree that Boyle is a hypocrite and there are things he will not say, but he picks on disabled people as he thinks they are fair game and thinks there will be no serious repercussions about what he says.

AuntieMaggie · 15/04/2010 12:35

Haven't read all the thread, but would just like to say about that the woman who was offended by the downs syndrome stuff... if that was all she was offended by then she is a hypocrite.

I went to see FB the other night (not my choice might I add) and there was a lot of funny stuff, but also a lot of offensive unfunny stuff. And the DS stuff really wasn't worth all the media attention - there was a lot worse than that!

Moral of the story - if you are going to get offended then don't go!

I think someone mentioned about kids picking up on what he's said about DS - why would they? It's an adult comedy show so if they pick up on it then it's down to the media, their parents, etc.

daftpunk · 15/04/2010 12:36

Riven; you are so wrong about me, I don't hate anyone, I'm just a realist, and if you are going to talk politics you have to be hard sometimes. I would rather give you an extra £500 pm to help your DD than give it to a family of asylum seekers who make their way to the UK for a free ride....it's a question of economics, we can't help everyone.

2shoes · 15/04/2010 12:37

AuntieMaggie cos if the parents find that kind of humour funny, what will they be teaching thier kids at home??

Ivykaty44 it isn't a disease

wastwinsetandpearls · 15/04/2010 12:39

Daftpunk you are quite foul. I don't know how you can call yourself a Christian with views like that. As a Christian your duty is to help those on the fringes of society.

Here are some Christian voices to get you thinking
Archbishop of York a former asylum seeker I think

Even Carey ( who your BNP mates tried to make their poster boy) has spoken of the duty to help asylum seekers.

From your own denomination Murphy O Connor has spoken up many times for the rights of asylum seekers and other migrants.

daftpunk · 15/04/2010 12:47

Yep, but back on planet earth we are only a small country drowing in debt...

I flicked through his book the other day and saw the line 'I f**ked her so hard she could have checked her fanny into a woman's refuge'.
Charming man. Is it true he is to get his own show?

wastwinsetandpearls · 15/04/2010 12:52

You have every right to your views DP but IMO you cannot hold those views and call yourself a Christian.

It has just occured to me that you cling tightly to your Catholic faith when it allows you to spout hateful bile about homosexuals but when your faith requires you to accept or even help people who are different from you it is a different story.

daftpunk · 15/04/2010 12:57

I seperate my religion from Politics, you have to...

Riven, you have just said you would rather do without the extra money to help refugees, were you the poster giving DC a hard time about the lack of help you get for your dd..?

Daftpunk- you are the very worst type of bigot.

You cannot call yourself Christian if you spout all that bollocks.

One of my favourite quotes, by Blaise Pascal; There are only two kinds of men: the righteous who believe themselves to be sinners and the sinners who believe themselves to be righteous.

daftpunk · 15/04/2010 13:13

What bollocks is that..?

Can you tell me..

wastwinsetandpearls · 15/04/2010 13:16

No you don't have to, infact that strikes me as a rather strange religion. You are therefore no better than those criticised by the Old Testament Prophets for worshipping but failing to put their faith in action. What is the point in saying something in church on a Sunday and doing nothing about it.

If Catholics are not to be involved in politics why is their always a petition at the front of my church regarding abortion limits or stem cell research in an attempt to lobby politicians and enter the political arena. Why have Catholic officials called for people to stand for parliament to represent the pro life movement.

The catechism does teach that one should be very careful when lining up the church with political views as political views are of the temporal fallen world whereas chuch views are divine. However it does say you have a duty to act or come to a jugement in moral matters.

Bishops sit in the house of Lords, Cardinal Murphy O Connor wanted to sit in the house of Lords although the Pope stood in his way.

The whole premise of Liberation Theology is that religion and politics are and must be linked.

wastwinsetandpearls · 15/04/2010 13:19

something I use with my students daftpunk

Being a Christian is a serious commitment daftpunk, you should really know a little bit more about that commitment.

daftpunk · 15/04/2010 13:20

Religion and politics are hard to separate sometimes, I agree with you, but I can do it...quite easily actually. I am pro-choice re; abortion, and although I have my own views on abortion I would never judge a woman who ends a pregnancy...her body, her life...I would support her.

Riven, can I just make one thing perfectly clear, I do not find jokes about disabled children funny, I like FB but I wouldn't go and see him, he was ok for 10 minutes on mock the week....my sense of humour is a little more sophisticated believe it or not, but I am against censorship (as you know) I think people should be allowed to say pretty much anything they like...

Why do you think FB is so popular...?

It's because people are bored stiff with the politically correct arseholes we've had shoved at us for the past 15 years...

Someone went into meltdown yesterday because I said the word "mental"....is that a banned word, will I be arrested, is that what you want..?

I hate people who are up their own PC arses, they are fucking boring...they should all be locked in a room together to see which one dies of boredom first...

I have laughed at jokes about deaf and blind people...God forgive me...but I laughed alot.

very christian

wastwinsetandpearls · 15/04/2010 13:23

I don't understand how you can daftpunk on moral questions.

The church cannot be party political because it would be allying a divine authority with human knowledge. I get that. But history is full of Christians who have made great changes because they are involved in politics. I suspect you don't mix the two as you know your political views are very unChristian.

Maybe you should read your Bible a little more or listen in Mass.
