interesting blog post from a mother of a DS daughter who was blasted by a 5-10 minute diatribe containing all the old stereotypes about people with DS at a Frakie Boyle show. I'm turning off any TV show he's on in future.

blog here

Grauniad article on it here

I watched MTW with my two 16-year-olds last week. They laughed all the way through. It struck me that it is really a very juvenile type of humour, and rarely clever or witty at all. Best avoided by adults, I think.

well good for you. but sadly some posters do time and time again hijack threads for attention, they also do time and time agian let it be known that they have weird views about disability.

The BNP has nothing to do with me laughing at disability, I didn't bring the subject up, someone else did...as usual.

SureStart? Hmmm, brilliant, Labour have brought in a load of third world immigrants to "enrich" my life (WTF) and by doing that have turned my country into a dump, and I am supposed to be happy with the crap total waste of money PR stunt that is SureStart.

there is a differencce between being laughed at and everyone laughing together at the joke

i used to serve a thalidomide in a pub, he would joke with everyone about his arms and legs but the joke was from him and to share - no one laughed at him. He would tell new customers that he was the first test tube baby and they spilt a bit, perhaps it was his way of fitting in - he had a lot of genuine friends though and was happy and married though no children,

Maybe he thought he had to take the piss out of himself to break the ice.

Apparently FB's public speaking fees have increased since this incident so it doesn't seem to have done his career that much harm. it would not have been some ill advised, off the cuff remark either - these shows are rehearsed and written months in advance, he would have known exactly what the effect would have been (many of his 'off the cuff'/improvised comments on MTW were seen in stand up he was doing years previously).

He is a major hypocrite. He made some pompous statement about taking other comedians to task about doing racist jokes when no doubt the only reason he doesn't do them is because he may be the one happily getting punched in the face. Unlikely this would happen from someone with a disability or their parent.

Calling this brand of comedy 'edgey' is also bollocks. Far cleverer to make jokes about the reactions and prejudices of others and the difficulties such as trying to get professional help and support faced by those with SN and their family then retelling jokes told in the playground around 1978. He slags off 'media whores' such as Kerry Katona but what he will do for money seems far worse to me.

It surprises me how often people think disability doesn't affect them and never will when in fact anyone can have a disabled child or develop a disability through accident or illness. I wonder if FB might have tried a little harder if this had happened to him and he was facing the daily realities of this situation? Instead he just resorted to sterotypical 'my last tour, just gonna take the money and f**k off' attitude. Wonder if some of those people came out of his show with 'ever felt you've been used?' ringing in their ears.

FioFio;

Re; Asylum seekers; It doesn't matter that they can't work until they get residency, the fact that they are here at all annoys me, they still get free NHS treatment, they are housed, their children have to go to school...I am paying for all that.

Over 80% of all UK citizenship applications are from third world countries..so forget the EU.

It does annoy me.

They cross 8 other countries to get here, I wouldn't let any of them in, I'd send them back to the first safe country they got to...let Turkey deal with them.

Fio, read my posts properly, I have just quoted you a statistic...over 80% of people applying to live in the UK are from outside the EU...I don't want to live with a load of Somalians.

I am not confusing asylum seekers with immigrant workers..I think maybe you are though..

Ivykaty44 · 15/04/2010 12:30

or perhaps I should have just said his mother took a tablet during pg to stop morning sickness and caused his body to be different from others? I wonder if Mr Asberges minds his name being used for a disease, did he endorse it as the name for this condition?
