Just seen a ticker on the BBC website saying that

Exactly sophable, so given that The Met admit it was a mistake I do think it's valid to ask how these mistakes are made. So I suppose I was agreeing with you!

Flossam · 23/07/2005 20:20

Sophable, because I feel you are persecuting me for phrasing something incorrectly. The extremists are a very large part to blame here. If you can't see that then more fool you. You are obviously being very unpleasant here and I am tempted to contact mumsnet really. I simply asked you if you used the tube. I have to use it to get to work, and I think if I didn't have to use it I might not feel so stongly. It was a valid question and did not deserve the response it got.

Heathcliffscathy · 23/07/2005 20:20

the guy they interviewed who had seen it seemed pretty sure this was what had happened senora. no one will end up in court for it though.

scubawoman · 23/07/2005 20:20

QoQ
Because if you have nothing to hide (supposedly) they will not shoot you if you stand still. Look at what I said - the man near Downing St and the tube driver. They didn't run - they didn't get shot.

ScummyMummy · 23/07/2005 20:20

I think Red Ken is spot on here:

"This tragedy has added another victim to the toll of deaths for which the terrorists bear responsibility," he said.

(from BBC news online)

MrsGordonRamsay · 23/07/2005 20:20

Just found this thread and have only scanned the beginning of it.

I have no problem with what happened yesterday, if he had been wired, we would all be bitching about the boys in blue, being too soft.

Even if he was as deaf as post, something is still not right, there is more to this than meets the eye. Even if you never heard the police shouting stop, the mere fact that everyone you passed had pure terror written all over their faces would make you stop and look around.

My money is on him being a decoy.

And yes, it must be difficult to be of Asian origin and male in London,...... but no more difficult than it was to be Irish until a few years ago.

WideWebWitch · 23/07/2005 20:21

Flossam, I don't think sophable's been rude or posted inappropriately to you has she? I have read the thread and can't see it.

Heathcliffscathy · 23/07/2005 20:21

i am being unpleasant. by questioning your point of view. go ahead flossam contact them.

MrsGordonRamsay · 23/07/2005 20:21

Nice point scuba

QueenOfQuotes · 23/07/2005 20:23

but scuba there's a subtle difference here.

According to 'most' eye witness reports the majority policemen persuing him were in plain clothes - the people that arrested the man in whitehall were CLEARLY armed police officers.

Would you not be just a teeeny weeny bit afraid if a large group of people, wearing plain clothes and 'claiming' to be police officers were pointing guns at your and telling you to stop????

I know I would be - and I don't come anywhere near the descriptions of most of the bombers/suspected bombers!

OP posts:
marthamoo · 23/07/2005 20:23

I wish I'd said that, scummy. Still I guess that's why he's Mayor of London and I'm not. Though I'm sure I could be if I lived there.

Flossam · 23/07/2005 20:25

This
If I do seem too angry about all this please remember that I know in detail the horrific way in which some of the people from 7/7 were permanently injured. And it is incredibly sad.

Used as an excuse for posting strongly on here. Not saying my opinion is right, but that perhaps I do feel more strongly about it than for those who this is just playing out on TV.

Apparently that warrented this

because you are a nurse, because sadly you have seem some of the injured people, i must not question your point of view or you will act as if i'm drowning your kittens????

Nuff said imo.

QueenOfQuotes · 23/07/2005 20:25

"but no more difficult than it was to be Irish until a few years ago."

ahhh but if you're Irish you can 'hide' by shutting your gob

You can't 'hide' the fact that you're Asian or Black.....

OP posts:
ScummyMummy · 23/07/2005 20:27

Maybe you could be mayor of Cheshire moo?

Flossam · 23/07/2005 20:27

No actually, its not an excuse, it is a very valid reason. I know I am probably bleating on to myself here.

Janh · 23/07/2005 20:28

Ken's comment is more or less what Flossam has been saying actually - just worded differently. The death of this man is down to the bombers.

MrsGordonRamsay · 23/07/2005 20:28

Sorry QoQ no dice, you still had to work, go to the shops, make transactions, answer the phone in work etc., etc.,

marthamoo · 23/07/2005 20:29

It's something to consider, certainly, scummy. Gotta go, my kids are singing (see Burger King thread )

peacedove · 23/07/2005 20:30

foxinsocks, I read that the Israelis taught the British police that terror suspects must be shot in the head, and more than three shots, because someone survived three shots in the head.

All it takes is to be suspected, and what makes the police suspect you?

having a dark skin,

or looking like a Muslim, perhaps dressing in ethnic apparel,

or coming out from near a place under surveillance,

not stopping when told to do so. Deafness is no excuse here.

and I said "changing", not "changed". I hope it doesn't change. I think Britain has been the most civilsed place on earth so far. I just don't want it to go the way of the rest of the world.

Incidentally, when I was younger, once I was in a place where Martial Law had been declared (third world country). A soldier was trying to break open the door of a shop, perhaps for cigarettes, and I told him he had no right to do so. He immediately dropped to the ground and aimed his rifle at me with the bayonet right at my heart. He didn't say anything, but I froze (although starngely enough I didn't feel any fear).

Well, survived, as you can conclude.

don't think I will survive the next suspicion, though.

Flossam · 23/07/2005 20:30

Thanks JanH - didn't dare say that earlier. He is more eloquent than me - but then he is payed to be!

QueenOfQuotes · 23/07/2005 20:32

Right all of us that can't answer yes to at least one of the following question have to stop posting our opinions (by the sounds of things)

  1. You were actually physically affected by the bombs.

  2. You have friends/family who were physically affected by the bombs

  3. You witnessed the bombs/victims 1st hand

  4. You or a close family member/close friend have to travel on the tube/public transport in London to get to work.

  5. You live in London.

OP posts:
Janh · 23/07/2005 20:33

sophable (I know you've gone out but assume you will come back to this) several of us told you yesterday that Flossam hadn't said/didn't mean what you thought she'd said/meant. Give the girl a break.

Flossam · 23/07/2005 20:33

No QOQ that is not what I meant at all. I just said that I don't think I would feel as stongly about this if I didn't have to travel by tube. I think that is a fair comment.

Janh · 23/07/2005 20:34

QoQ, please don't keep this going.

ChaCha · 23/07/2005 20:35

I didn't have time to read all the post from where i last left off but i take it that a lot has been said?
I no longer live in London, can't answer 'yes' to any of the 5 points but what about if you happen to be Asian/Black/Muslim whatever..and are suffering the consequences of these attacks?
Does our opinion count?
