Just seen a ticker on the BBC website saying that

"So go on then, what do you do for me? What's your job?"

Why do you feel this strong 'need' to have people do something for you. I thought "Most" police officers were in the job because they wanted to do it. Not because they want to feel that they're then somehow 'owed' something from the rest of soceity!

On the (thankfully rare) occasions we've had to call the police out I would have been horrified if they'd have come and said "well we'll help you, but first what are YOU doing to help us"!

Oh I love the early hours, especially Sundays.

Always so peaceful dont you think?

QueenOfQuotes · 24/07/2005 02:14

mummyloves - why don't YOU wait until the investigation into the shooting is complete. YOU can't possibly know all the facts (unless you're picking up pieces of bodies, checking CCTV and investigating the shooting) so if I was you I certainly wouldn't be so quick to say that they're "Not guilty". Nobody knows yet.

Heres a quote from near the start of the thread. "I bet he was new to the country, feeling cold and doesn't speak English. Shit."

That seems to be the first reaction of many.

Fran1 · 24/07/2005 02:15

Sorry - please remind me, where did i get out?

What wasn't i fighting?

"spouting off your unfounded opinions that police are obvious fascist out of control pigs, obviously racist and OBVIOUSLY COULD HAVE DONE THIS AND THIS AND THIS"
You may want to read this thread before accusing me of doing the above. I have been standing up for the police in the whole of the thread.

I wholeheartedly feel the police did the right thing despite the man now being announced innocent and i have upmost respect for all staff genuinely involved with this.

QueenOfQuotes · 24/07/2005 02:15

skribble - you obviously haven't read the rest of the thread very carefully them have you???

OP posts:
QueenOfQuotes · 24/07/2005 02:16

lol - great detective work there, both Fran and I have been accused of saying things we didn't say - and the evidence is very easy to find in this instance!

OP posts:
SaintGeorge · 24/07/2005 02:17

Ok, my off the cuff remark about the early hours and peace didn't work.

How about everyone knocks it on the head and goes to bed?

Pretty please?

Fran1 · 24/07/2005 02:18

Hi QofQ.

Do you think there any policies written to ensure police staff don't divulge such important information as the description of the eye balls they collected?

Surely there is a confidentiality issue here.

Skribble · 24/07/2005 02:19

Sorry what did i miss?

A lot of first reactions not just on MN but in the real world too were oh dear imagine shooting someone for wearing a big jacket. Maybe he just jumped the barrier. Their targeting anyone with big bags.

QueenOfQuotes · 24/07/2005 02:19

LOL Fran1 - we may have disagreed on most of this thread but that has made me PMSL

OP posts:
QueenOfQuotes · 24/07/2005 02:19

skribble - try the other 450 odd posts........

OP posts:
Skribble · 24/07/2005 02:21

Again I ask what did I miss?

Fran1 · 24/07/2005 02:22

Like to think we agree to disagree

I do apologise for my atrocious behaviour here but i just can't quite make myself believe everything i read. Neither can i take this too seriously on mumsnet!

Of course i take the terroist attack seriously but ykwim.

QueenOfQuotes · 24/07/2005 02:24

"That seems to be the first reaction of many."

as I said read the rest of the thread and you'll see that wasn't the first reaction of many.

Have a look on the BBC website on "Have your say" I'd say it's pretty much 50/50 on there at the moments as to the reactions.

OP posts:
Fran1 · 24/07/2005 02:24

I am sorry Skribble, if i had to spend the best part of my evening trying to keep up with this thread, you're gonna have to do the same.

I really can't summarise!

Skribble · 24/07/2005 02:25

I have read most of the posts. I didn't want to start personal attacks. I am surprised how many people jump to the conclusion the police were wrong and there must have been an inoccent reason for it all.

Skribble · 24/07/2005 02:27

Now I remember why I never normaly quote . I didn't want a summary. I asked what you felt I had missed that should exclude me from posting.

QueenOfQuotes · 24/07/2005 02:28

WEll lets face it Wouldn't be the first time the police have shot an innocent man would it???

With the Harry Stanley case being in the news recently it's only natural, with the police first saying the man was 'definitely linked', and then saying he wasn't, and then admitting he had "no connection", for some people to be pretty shocked at that!

OP posts:
Fran1 · 24/07/2005 02:28

Have you seen the bbc website have released a picture of the man killed and statements from his family.

Mummyloves · 24/07/2005 02:29

Fran1 I apologise most sincerely, I got you and QueenofQuote mixed up, something I'm sure you can PYSl about, because if I can do that, what else can the MET do to f**k up. Fill your boots! All right, I've heard anough howling! So I scored an own goal. Look, all I want to say is that the police are coming in for heavy criticsm at this time. Please, do not underestimate what we do. Your jokes about eyeballs etc are not funny. Have you any idea? Of course it does not breach any rules. Eyewitnesses have already given gory details about what they've seen to the press. I give up. Tomorrow I'll ask if i can investigste the next granny that has been mugged and her face blackened. Sorry if I am a disappointment in life. Yours sincerely, hope it isn't your granny.......

QueenOfQuotes · 24/07/2005 02:29

well perhaps you should read "All" of the posts them you may see. It doens't take a genuis to see that the MAJORITY on this thread have been saying "well it was obvisouly the 'right' thing to do for that situation".

OP posts:
Fran1 · 24/07/2005 02:29

Bless you Skribble, i wasn't excluding you! I have read so much my brain is frazzled!

Fran1 · 24/07/2005 02:31

Once again i'd like to ask you not to bring my family into this.

SaintGeorge · 24/07/2005 02:32

And once again I ask you all to knock it on the head.

There are no other mods around, I want to go to bed and I can forsee this turning into another row.

Please, give it a rest.
