More evacuations

Totenham Court Road has just been evacuated. I know there are going to be lots of scares following the London bombings but DH has asked me to check if anything has happened. He seems to think something has.

This is happening all the time, what makes him think something has happened? Lots of evacuations and security alerts all over the place.

sky news. Warren st, oval and shepherds bush are evacuated. Says a series of incidents.

Does he mean the road or the station?

Also, mobiles are working fine, if something had happened they would have shut the networks

DOnt know. police say incidents ongoing.

It says on Sky 'smoke seen coming from train'.

Sheperds Bush was shut at about 10am-ish - but reopened (well tube was running again) about half hour later. - Think it's just an outbreak of suspect packages (crossing fingers anyway)
There's a sign at local tube station saying that there were over 100 suspect packages in the last 6 days and reminding everyone to take care of their bags.

BBC news have just said that University College Hospital are on Major Incident Alert. Unconfirmed reason for 'alert' as of yet (according to BBC lunchtime tv news)

The whole of nottingham was jammed at home-time one day last week, just cos someone had left a bag behind in a jobcentre near the city centre.

Police closed all the roads, but then couldn't get disposal people thru the grid-lock.

I didn't get out of the city until 7:30. Then they didn't even report it on the regional evening news!

Might just be a malfunctioning train, or a discarded fag end.

Hopefully nothing (fingers crossed) .

There are closures all the time here (M/cr), think everyone is jumpy, understandably.

Smoke coming from a train sounds alarming but it's more likely to be a malfunction thatn a bomb, isn't it? (Unless we are getting misinformation again, like the power surges last time.)

I'm intruiged by "a minor explosion, enough to blow open a rucksack".

Sky again:

A series of incidents have been reported near Warren Street, Oval and Shepherd's Bush stations on the London Underground.

The station have been evacuated. Smoke was seen coming from a train.

A man on the train told Sky News he spoke to an Italian man who witnessed an explosion.

"He told me he had seen a man carrying a rucksack which suddenly exploded. It was a minor explosion but enough to blow open his rucksack. Everyone rushed from the carriage. People evacuated very quickly. There was no panic.

"I didn't see anyone injured but there was shock and fright.

"There was a smell of smoke."

Hopefully it's an over-reaction

Oh no- Sky news says another bloody rucksack isinvolved! I get the heebie jeebies every time I'm near a rucksack on the tube already... All the backpackers must be getting sick of my paranoid looks at their luggage.
