I am really pleased Fabio has sacked him and a bit surprised to be honest as I thought he wouldn't when he said he would make his decision based on what was best for the team.

I really hope his wife kicks him out as well.

Good... am quite surprised but I think it's the right decision

Did you see the clip of his bit of stuff when her PA (or was it the PR person) told her? Shocked would be putting it mildly

2shoes · 05/02/2010 23:38

good

nancy75 · 05/02/2010 23:40

some papers are suggesting he paid her £800k to not sell her story.
glad fabio sacked him.

mine too, i wondered if terry had paid her, or the mystery 5th player

GypsyMoth · 05/02/2010 23:52

No chance of us winning world cup now then!!!

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 06/02/2010 17:21

Don't be ridiculous, ILT. We won't not win because he isn't the captain.

having a decent captain certainly helps....and Rio ?? hmmm

foxinsocks · 07/02/2010 14:27

and instead for captain we have someone who has been

banned for drink driving for 12 months
banned for excessive speeding
banned from football for 8 months for missing a drugs test
and now banned for 4 games for intentionally striking a player on the opposition team

great

GypsyMoth · 07/02/2010 14:29

foxinsox...thats what i thought too!! not exactly going to help much is he!

BitOfFun · 07/02/2010 14:32

Who could they choose who is any better though? They are a bunch of drunk brawling granny-shaggers.

GypsyMoth · 07/02/2010 14:40

not all,thought gareth barry myself

Itsjustafleshwound · 07/02/2010 14:43

But JT has also been found to be abusing his Captaincy privileges and financially gaining from them - it was really time for him to be sacked. I think Capello acted well - he didn't give a knee-jerk reaction but allowed Terry time to actually do the honourable thing and step down before he was fired..

Did anyone see the comparison in The Times 6 Nations supplement comparing the Rugby captain to JT - quite funny ...

And Rio Ferdinand is such a fine upstanding member of society isn't he.

This notion that people should be held publically accountable for what happens in their private lives is just ridiculous.

yes the man is a tosser. Yes what he did to his wife is wrong on every conceiveable level. But it is and should remain between him and his wife.

And I wonder if all the fans chanting obscenities at him during matches, and all the journalists offering money for the stories have all been faithful to their partners their whole lives...

As for the woman in question... well shagging a married man and then accepting money to keep quiet... there are names for people who do that.

Itsjustafleshwound · 07/02/2010 15:14

Well, if he remained captain of the England squad at least it can be said that he has kept faith with the SA President - in spite of 6 wives and 20 children the President has still only managed a rudimentary education and a child out of wedlock ...

mayorquimby · 07/02/2010 15:15

"yes the man is a tosser. Yes what he did to his wife is wrong on every conceiveable level. But it is and should remain between him and his wife"

Yes and if it hadn't involved another squad member than no one would have cared. If he just continued shagging every memeber of the public he'd still be captain but this had the potential to disrupt the squad and his ability to lead them as a team so it is a valid debate on his position as captain.
And as far as replacements go Rio is probably the best choice and he does seem to have done a bit of growing up in recent years.

bubbles4 · 07/02/2010 15:20

It wasnt just between him and his wife though,it involved a member of the team he was captaining, therefore had to go.He would have shoen himself to be more honourable if he had offered to resign first.

Earlybird · 07/02/2010 15:22

For those who think neither John Terry nor Rio Ferdinand are good captain candidates - who do you think should be captain instead?

foxinsocks · 07/02/2010 15:22

so intentionally punching a member of the opposition is growing up? I think that's double standards.

I'm amazed how people in this country react to stories such as these. Just doesn't happen like this in any other country!

GypsyMoth · 07/02/2010 15:27

earlybird.....i suggested gareth barry...but i'm not sure who else? can rio encourage a team of men to go up against all those world cup teams,i mean, does he have the strength? the passion, etc? i dont know if he does.....beckham,well couldnt imagine him either, seems a bit 'wet',but JT,he seemed well liked.

mayorquimby · 07/02/2010 15:28

No but that's something which happens in football matches from time to time and is being dealt with in the form of a suspension from the FA. It's an absolute non-entity with regards to the captaincy, other wise you wouldn't be able to name any player as captain as pretty much every player has been suspended at one point in their career.
His work with inner city youth projects and frequent campaigning against knife crime was what i was referring towith my growing up comment.
As i said he's the best alternative.

GypsyMoth · 07/02/2010 15:28

FAB....why do you think i was 'ridiculous' to say we have no chance of winning world cup now??

Earlybird · 07/02/2010 15:29

I don't know who Gareth Barry is............which, I'm sure, is more indicative of my ignorance than his suitability as captain.

Off to do some googling....

foxinsocks · 07/02/2010 15:29

no it doesn't majorquimby, it hardly ever happens, not intentionally punching another player

I'm not even sure Capello was going to pick Rio to start games he's been so off form and now he has to

BitOfFun · 07/02/2010 15:30

"We" had no chance anyway. Why do people persist in this delusion?
