Proposed march through Wooton Bassett

Here

Initially saw this on the BBC but this link gives a bit more detail. I support everyone's right to free speech but ... dear goodness, this seems to be exceptionally bad taste. My DH is an army doctor and, during his time in a free Afgan clinic for civilians run by the army, saved many Afgan lives. He's going out there again in January. I can imagine I'd be incredibly distressed if he'd lost his life in the conflict and somebody wrote to me explaining what he'd 'really' died for. Ugh. Maybe it's just my personal bias, but I can't help feel that the proposed march is sited to cause maximum potential for violent conflict and to cause maximum hurt to those who are bereaved.

"Atlantis, before pressing the stupid buzzer try the spell check button, there's a dear."

As far as I am aware there isn't one, unless someone would like to point it out to me??

As some are aware I am dyslexic which is why my posts are usually dotted with the word (spelling?). I could sit with a dictionary or goggle every word but im told most people without dyslexia only read so many letters of a word to be able to read what it is, if you can't do that then maybe you should be checked for dyslexia too.

Or were you just trying to be funny? In a liberal lets attack the disabled way?

atlantis · 08/01/2010 21:06

"Atlantis youa re right that it is only the first safe country a person reaches, but a number of asylum seekers do reach us by plane and therefore we need the system in palce- and as I said I support deportation for those who came here illegally. I would have a porblem with deporting someone to a dangerous homeland even if they did not follow the stop at first place rule. "

yes, yes, which is why I said most people.

People don't necessarily have to be deported back to the alleged country of origin, they can be deported back to the first safe country they stepped into.

atlantis · 08/01/2010 21:12

"I'd support a review of the system of blanket EU migration- not becuase I want to but becuase of basic space and infrastructure reality. I'd love the country to be expandable. But there needs to be differentiation between those who turn up for gain from safe countries ( really safe, not just those atm on the HO lists)and those who come here becuase they fear for their lives and those of their famillies. That's the difference between regretful pragmatism and unethical cruelty. "

The way I see it is we were sold down the river by Labour who opened the flood gates to people coming here from the EU. Other countries limited their intake for a few years so the great mass who wanted out really didn't have much of a choice but to come here (which they may have wanted to do anyway but would have been limited) with Blair's lies that only 13,000 at most would come.

Labour also had no checks and balances where illegals were concerned and allowed the ones coming here to disappear, they have no idea how many are actually here and sadly until they are all caught we never will know the truth.

Then they said they would sort the system out and again they lied, they have not.

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 21:12

And you think the country will accept buses fullof asylum seekers sent over? Seriously, it would be interesting to see how that panned out in terms of the cost of the diplomacy / legal bickering involved over copst of keeping people here. But on amodelling system only, not with real lives.

I didn't find the liberallets attack the disabled joke funny, I am as you probably noticed liberal, but attacking those with SEN is hardly a hobby of mine.

Besides my typing is as bad as yours (OK worse, not to be unfair on you!) forequally valid reasons.

But.... you attack, Atlantis, you really do go very much into warzone mode. It will inevitable put people on the defensive and it is a barrier to debate. I certainly find it one, anyway.

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 21:14

Yes,I realised that's the way you see it Atlantis.

atlantis · 08/01/2010 21:19

"I didn't find the liberallets attack the disabled joke funny,"

Ok I apologise, I am defensive about my dyslexia and it bugs me when people attack over something as silly as spelling.

"But.... you attack, Atlantis, you really do go very much into warzone mode. It will inevitable put people on the defensive and it is a barrier to debate. I certainly find it one, anyway. "

( a none sarcastic and honest) Do I?, I didn't think I did. I actually thought I was quite measured in my arguements. (I wondered why my MP refers to me as 'here comes trouble' ) and I thought I had mellowed with age.

daftpunk · 08/01/2010 21:24

Peachy;

atlantis does not attack, her posts are always intelligent and well thought out, I find her very refreshing...

But then I would do wouldn't I...

(Oh, and my typing/spelling is always tragic...I have no excuse...)

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 21:24

Seriously? I do find I tend to bristle when I see your name, its not the opinions as DP doesn;t have the effect on me (Dp knows what I think of her politics, funnily ewnough though I half think she'dvote for me if I was up forelection round her way LOL- I think she does get me in termsof who I am quite well).

OTOH I know my posts annoy people too,we an acquire a tone we don't intend to in chatroom format (aqnd I freely admit to an AQ of 40 LOL).

It muight be worth considering how you post, as opposed to what (thats up toyou).Sometimes i think we all need to step back a bit.

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 21:25

DP X posts

I was referring to how I find her posts, and I thought she responded very nicely to it.

And I was quite nice about you in my post so

noddyholder · 08/01/2010 21:25

There are many 'liberals' who are smart enough to see that immigration needs debate and address but they are not filled with the venom and hatred some show.Assuming the immigration issue was sorted where do BNP voters suggest all the other people they find distatsteful go?Homosexuals for example?Or will it be enough to remove some of the rights(civil partnerships/adoption)they have fought long and hard to have?I personally would prefer the govt spent money on OAPs than a lot of things like the olympics/the dome/war but there is no guarantees and their agenda is not always as simple as 'take from them and give to the'

noddyholder · 08/01/2010 21:27

them

daftpunk · 08/01/2010 21:33

peachy;

You are always very nice to me....even when you're not being nice to me...if that makes sense..

and you know I love you..

atlantis · 08/01/2010 21:44

"we an acquire a tone we don't intend to in chatroom format"

Yes I agree, I prefer talking to people on the telephone or face to face in RL also, it makes for less misunderstandings.

I think the only person who comes over better on the internet is Gordon Brown as he has the face and character for it.

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 21:46

Actually it makes sense t ome

Though if you have a pic of me I am concerned LOL...

I find that regardlessofpoliticalpersuasion, people value honesty and the desire to do things for the good. People often don't sahre my values, but most do see where I am coming from.

Were I differently wired I'd be an MP (the lib dems offered)
but not possibloe ATM. No matter;there are other ways of doing things.

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 21:47

I like Gordon Brown LOL.

Mind,I am phone phobic, I can type topeople but cannot talk topeople unless I can seetheir face. Not sure why. Big bloody PITA though.

Can receivecalls, not make them.Think I am under the heading of 'generally odd'.

daftpunk · 08/01/2010 21:51

Peachy...

was just about to check you out on your profile but you haven't got one..

I have...ha ha

Have you ever seen a BNP supporter..?

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 21:55

Would it surprise you that my oldest friend is a BNP supporter?

It is a source of difficulty but we tend yo very deliberately avoid the subject; perhaps if we met now we'dnot get on but after 25 years (eek) of shared stufff it can be done.

I did ahve a profile but deleted it post DM becuase my family is after all unique. Felt a bit vulnerable and all. Was awarethat some stuff i'd covered could make good Dm copyand wasvery easily twisted to make my boys look bad.

lemonmuffin · 08/01/2010 21:57

Atlantis, I've found your posts very articulate and informative in this debate.

I don't think you've been aggressive in any way, it's yet another example of criticising the poster rather than the posts methinks.

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 22:00

Hang on,Atlantis and I had a chat, I tried to be reflective rather than nasty! I think I succeeded. I satted how her posts made me feel, and she said other people had said similar.

None of us are perfect; i've had stuff about my posts pointed out (mainly that I am toosensitive- true) and learnedfrom it.It can be a positive, I certainly have found it so.

If she doesn't agree that's Ok, but its funny how other peopleare getting defensive about it when she was very reasonable indeed I thought. All credit to her.

daftpunk · 08/01/2010 22:01

No, it wouldn't suprise me peachy tbh...there are BNP supporters everywhere...

lemonmuffin, that is a problem on MN isn't it....getting too personal....

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 22:10

Thankfully there may be many, but where I live there areonly 3% voting. Thank effing goodness for that

Divatheshopaholic · 08/01/2010 22:26

I dont get it, im not british and im asian. Why this organisation plan to do this march. If Wootton Bassett has become for returning serviceman & soldiers who lost their lives serving their country, why would this Mulsim4uk in need of crashing this tradition. Whole world is aware of the loss of innoccent people`s life.
Im against war. But this is so wrong.

SpeedyGonzalez · 08/01/2010 23:21

Sorry all, haven't got time to catch up on whole thread but just wanted to respond to something dp said earlier about the BNP and women:

"I don't think the BNP are "anti-women", they have alot of women in their party, probably proportionally higher than other parties...I think that speaks volumns." - Actually, having women in the party doesn't mean that they treat them as equals. To return to the abusive partner example, a man may choose to spend his life with a woman, but that doesn't mean he is not a misogynist.

It is so easy to put two and two together and come up with 5 because you fill in the gaps with lots of assumptions.

Their policy document on the family makes it very clear that the BNP official party line regards women as inferior chattel. That is what speaks volumes.

BadgersPaws · 09/01/2010 00:25

"I don't try 'shouting' them down and I would not get the thumbscrews out if they said no thanks i'll stick with the BNP."

I've not actually seen DP say something along the lines of "I understand that the BNP will work to make women return to the kitchen, that they will make women more reluctant to report rape, that any non-widowed unmarried mother will loose their housing related benefits and other aspects of their polices. I also trust the BNP to do what they promise despite their fantastical views of history and ethnicity and their labelling of many of the war generation as liars or murderers. I accept all of that as the price that I, my friends, my family and my children need to pay in order to address the problem that I see with immigration."

Maybe DP is one of those submissive wives, they do exist and it would make a kind of sense.

"Well thanks for the help there BP we (as a party) appreciate all your hard work."

An informed vote is a good vote whether it be for a party that I support or not.

atlantis · 09/01/2010 01:45

Thank you DP and Lemonmuffin I am cheered by your kind words.

I have no problem with Peachy or her post to me, she's actually one of the nicer posters and I wasn't thinking of her when I made my comments, I think she just got mixed in with others who can be nasty when they run out of arguements.
