Proposed march through Wooton Bassett

Here

Initially saw this on the BBC but this link gives a bit more detail. I support everyone's right to free speech but ... dear goodness, this seems to be exceptionally bad taste. My DH is an army doctor and, during his time in a free Afgan clinic for civilians run by the army, saved many Afgan lives. He's going out there again in January. I can imagine I'd be incredibly distressed if he'd lost his life in the conflict and somebody wrote to me explaining what he'd 'really' died for. Ugh. Maybe it's just my personal bias, but I can't help feel that the proposed march is sited to cause maximum potential for violent conflict and to cause maximum hurt to those who are bereaved.

Someone on here was even advising you re courses prob in October as I was home ill then for 9 days and you had a post of mine deleted ! As someone said it would do you good as I am sure you would be hard pushed to find a uni without a wide social mix and you would see that we are all basically the same regardless of religion and sexuality. But I am inclined to believe you are a troll too so irrelevant I know.

BadgersPaws · 08/01/2010 09:20

"It's a shame you have decided I'm a troll"

No, not a troll, a troll would be saying contrary things just to provoke an argument.

On the other hand someone might play devil's advocate to either produce an interesting debate or just to investigate their own opinions on a subject.

Quite different.

I think what's caused some of the confusion is that in the past you appear to have said that you wanted to vote BNP just to send a message and that you didn't want them in power.

Now you're saying that you are a BNP supporter, would help them, seem to have had some contact with Nick Griffin and believe that they're the only answer to the country's problems.

Now that could be someone who's "coming out" as a BNP supporter from a somewhat reluctant position, or a BNP supporter who was initially trying to get over the message that you could vote for them out of protest without actually supporting them or even someone who's just interested in a good debate into all corners of the issue.

So no comment regarding the problem you see, the price you're willing to pay to fix it and the people you trust to do it?

daftpunk · 08/01/2010 10:33

NH;

I'm sorry I got you deleted, in 2.5 years I've only requested MNHQ delete 2 posts directed at me...I can take alot, but I wont have people telling me I'm a coward and wouldn't say this in RL.

Yes I would...infact I turned up at the MN xmas meet up a few weeks after your post, I would have been more than happy to talk to anyone about my views on homosexuals and immigrants...why wouldn't I..?

Of course turning up at meet-ups doesn't prove I'm not a troll, alway it really proves is I'm not a 57 yr old man or a 14 year old boy (or a black disabled lesbian having a laugh)...I know nothing I say will convince you I'm not a troll, and tbh, I couldn't care less what you think of me, you know I think you're just an irritating pain in the arse, so we're equal.

BP;

That was a pretty fair assessment of me. I am sensitive to MN being a very liberal site, I don't want to upset that environment too much, however MN does allow political debate, so I will continue to post about my political views as and when I can be bothered.

I'm not on MN that much, I don't post all over the place, I'm not interested in 95% of what goes on here, infact this is the only thread I've posted on all week..I'm easy to avoid and no one is forced to read my posts.

Ronaldinhio · 08/01/2010 11:13

although she will not appreciate it, I'm sure...I enjoy reading Daftpunk's posts and they often make me examine my stance on topics
(before blithely disregarding her and reopening the Mail)

Playing devil's advocate or poking the liberals can be very amusing and sometimes the right thing to do on this site and we are the better not worse for it
I want differing opinions, not a bland homogeony and I embrace that as part of mumsnet...our moods, foibles and thank God differing opinions

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 11:18

I would tend to agree Ronadinhio, although I am sad that the SN board appears to have lost Riven (thread there) as a casualty of this thread; I am certain in my mind that if I,as a white married Christian (if benefit dependent) poster can find the opinions on here toomuch forme at times, that if you fall into any of the tragetted groupds then it must be incredibly hard indeed.

Ronaldinhio · 08/01/2010 11:27

I, too can't believe Riven has gone.
Lets hope that like the rest of mumsnet she won't be able to resist for too long as I feel she will be missed and will miss us.

It's all very difficult as we all have buttons that are easily pushed but sometimes that's no bad thing.
Some of the harshest things stated on this site have made me think the most and some of the kindest or most generous have made me re examine myself and my motivations.

MsDoctor · 08/01/2010 11:30

i like reading DF's posts, it reminds me that I'm really quite a nice tolerant person.

daftpunk · 08/01/2010 11:41

Peachy;

I didn't know Riven had left MN, if that's true then I hope she's back soon, as I said, no one is forced to read posts by anyone, or to go on threads where they might get a little pissed off...threads like this will always be controversial, best to avoid them if you are sensitive....

daftpunk · 08/01/2010 11:45

Ronaldinhio...

Of course I appreciate it...i like reading your posts too...always a subliminal message going on somewhere...

MsDoctor · 08/01/2010 11:52

Justice will be served if one of your children is either gay or converts to Islam.....daftpunk.

Nothing wrong with either but such a wonderful idea.

moondog · 08/01/2010 12:09

BP, bless you, you are hopelessly confused.
Your rambling post of 21:49 last night suggests that you believe that anyone who objects to rampant illegal and legal immigration is happy for murder and mayhem to be the order of the day.

Were you on the sherry or do you really believe this?
If so, you need a fundamental tuttorial in logic.

moondog · 08/01/2010 12:11

And MS, how odd you are too.
You seem to believe that being a Muslim or a homosexual is some sort of punishment a person has to endure for being frank.

Is it 1732 or did I miss sometihng?

MsDoctor · 08/01/2010 12:22

Me?
No, I would be perfectly happy if my child were either, it was more a punishment that would be fitting for DP.... although I did think when I posted that it may have come across like I was a homophobic and prejudiced moron...thanks for giving me an opportunity to explain.

MsDoctor · 08/01/2010 12:25

Holy crap, really not reading well today.....I don't think DP is frank, frank really doesn't cut it does it? Riven is pretty frank too, and pagwatch(although in a very pretty way) and Anyfucker, Custy and the list goes on..... It's the ignorance, hatred, homophobic, prejudiced, and general objection to anything DP doesn't understand, as well as the crazy views that she plucks evidence for out of thin air, that she should be punished for.

atlantis · 08/01/2010 13:46

"that she should be punished for. "

And what would you suggest? Maybe stoning in the street? Some lashes?

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 14:00

DP Idon't agreewith the generalif you find it hurts then avoid aspect of MN; without experiences and viewpoints frompeoplelike Riv who fit the categories bigots despise, bigiots get freereign to post their abhorrent rhetoric without feedback or significant argument. If you are as big a fan of freespeech as you state, you perhaps should consider that if you own posting prevents peoplesuch as Riv from participating, you may in some way be damaging that principle and need to tone things down.

In particular deleted post type stuff.

moondog · 08/01/2010 14:00

'although I did think when I posted that it may have come across like I was a homophobic and prejudiced moron...thanks for giving me an opportunity to explain.'

I'm not convinced of that yet.
Try again eh?

moondog · 08/01/2010 14:03

Peachy, what tosh (and you need to do some serious editing and/or keep off the sherry yourself if you want to be taken seriously).

Noone prevents people from posting.
Choosing to stay or leave the deabe is part of the whole machine known as democracy.

Why do people who leave have to shout

'I'm off now! Yes, ME! I'm off! Really I am.I said, I'M OFF!!!!'

Just go why dontcha?

atlantis · 08/01/2010 14:12

"DP Idon't agreewith the generalif you find it hurts then avoid aspect of MN; without experiences and viewpoints frompeoplelike Riv who fit the categories bigots despise, bigiots get freereign to post their abhorrent rhetoric without feedback or significant argument. Why oh why is it viewed as okay for a terrorist organisation such as Islam4uk to have freedom of speech but not the BNP?

posieparker · 08/01/2010 14:12

Actually (back to me old self from MsDoctor) I am prejudiced against people with prejudice.

I guess what I am trying to say is that people who harbour, and spout about, prejudice views deserve their prejudice served for dinner. I have no respect for people like DP, I find her views pretty disgusting made only worse by the fact that she has the capacity to understand her views are offensive.

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 14:12

MD as people tend to know, what I need to be given a paitr of glasses that I can wear for more than trwo hours without a severe migraine, most people on MN accept that now.

I dont think its tosh but there you go, thats just my own take on it.

DP- is fairtopoint out that Riv says another thread upset her more than this. So not all you. Only just got that email.

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 14:14

Whree did I say she shouldnt say it Atlantis? And where have I advocated any such difference in right?

I have not.

There is a difference between suggesting humanitarian consideration and preventing speech- a vast, all encompassing difference.I would happily suggest humanitarian restraint to Islam4UK should they appear on here I can assure you

daftpunk · 08/01/2010 14:16

Peachy;

I have had a poster on this thread telling me she'd hoped I'd died ..as personal attacks go, I don't think it gets much worse than wishing someone dead..

Maybe people need to tone it down abit with me....

PeachyWillNeverVoteBNP · 08/01/2010 14:18

I acn'ttakeresponsibility forotehrsDP,that advice is genric really, just because I give it toone doesn'tmean I wouldnt to anyone elseeither (think that may have happened when I was away so can'teven have defended anyone)

posieparker · 08/01/2010 14:20

Surely your views DP would render many immigrants dead, repatriation and all that. Or is there a magic land all the non whites can go that will provide food, shelter and money?

You can hide behind 'political views' but hatred and prejudice of your fellow man is far more serious than politics.
