The reason the foreign aid budget is being protected is because it is seen as nessercery for global stability. We are not the only country suffering a recession and in countries that are very, very poor the global downturn will be so awful that if we cut aid in addition to it the instability that would cause would cost us in the long term. We are part of a global economy and famine and war will cost us dear. Selfish self interest.

We honestly don't know we are born in this country, clean water, free education, free healthcare. Surely we are so blessed we have a moral obligation to aid poor countries aswell?

And I'm hoping that when you mentioned a stupid 'Chomsky' you weren't referring to Noam Chomsky, were you? Please say you weren't, otherwise I shall actually LMAO here and now.

Can we have some intelligent debate on this thread? Can we ignore the moronic statements rather than sinking to their low? This was a thoughtful convo when I last joined in, am so disappointed to see how badly it's deteriorated.
