"on mumsnet this week" in the Mail. Is this a new thing

1009 replies

jujumaman · 13/08/2009 10:32

Came across this this morning when I should have been working

Is this a new weekly rip-off by the Mail? Or has it been going on for months and I'm behind the times as usual

I'm not quite as virulently anti the Mail as mnetters, find it silly rather than the end of civilisation as we know it. But still ...

OP posts:
MaggieBelleVirgo · 13/08/2009 13:19

I read it sometimes. I think it's a magazine style paper, but the bandwagon mumsnetters leap on to criticise not just the paper itself, but anybody who ever reads it, is ridiculous.... imvho!

Tamarto · 13/08/2009 13:19

'Perhaps the inaccurate attribution of the op was a deliberate attempt to disguise. '

So instead of one persons family seeing it another persons family see something that they didn't even write and take it for gospel.

Far better to leave usernames off completly, i'm not sure why they are needed.

PeachyWipesHerBumOnTheDM · 13/08/2009 13:19

I don't think the fact it is th DM is the point at all tbh

I'd be unhappy with any publication carrying quotes from me.

DailyMailCanLickMyBalls · 13/08/2009 13:20

One thing that's gratifying about this, is that it's basically an admission from the Daily Mail that the people who post on their own message board are dull as hell, and not worth quoting.

p.s. Paul Dacre, for example, is a twat.

PeachyWipesHerBumOnTheDM · 13/08/2009 13:20

I know tamarto- could well be that not only does this persons employer now know the plans, but her family think she is PG and keeping quiet until after the scan.

fabbo

tattycoram · 13/08/2009 13:21

Also, I think it's worse that she's an EX mnetter. Happy to pick over what we all contribute, not bothering to contribute herself. THat leaves a very bad taste in my mouth

Mamazon · 13/08/2009 13:21

yes DaftPunk i do.

I think that in the main, anyone that pays for a newspaper probably has the same sort of opinions as those expressed within it.

seeing as the Daily Mail prints nothing but ignorant masogynist fascist hatred, then yes im afraid i do judge people who read it.

If you would like to prove me wrong then i shall glady listen to your arguments, but given you are a proud reader of this newspaper and you yourself have had much criticism for some of the views you have expressed here i think you have kinda proven my point

MaggieBelleVirgo · 13/08/2009 13:21

what was her screen name when she was here?!?!?

WriggleJiggle · 13/08/2009 13:21

I think the time of me getting support from MN are coming to an end. Whilst I don't write much of interest (so unlikely to be quotes ), the POTENTIAL for being quoted by a newspaper is still there. Too much of a risk to take.

(I wish I were a moldie !)

LIZS - if she meant to disguise the OP she could have made up a name, and taken 30 seconds to check it wasn't in use - why would she use the name of someone else from the same thread, unless it was carelessness?

IUseTheDailyMailAsADildo · 13/08/2009 13:24

I could start a thread about my 'hobby'.

PeachyWipesHerBumOnTheDM · 13/08/2009 13:25

YOu wouldn't need to make up a name; Mumsnetter asks... would suffice.

I think I know who the writer is, but must ahve missed her departure3 whilst on holiday: I really think though if she's been outing MN posters she can be outed here if anyone knows for certain.

notwavingjustironing · 13/08/2009 13:25

am PMSL at the name changers.

"notreadingthedailymailjustironing" doesn't exactly have the same ring to it does it?

Iklboo · 13/08/2009 13:25

If nothing else this article has prompted some fantastic name changes

LIZS · 13/08/2009 13:26

Obviously she lurks at very least. She may well still post , but under a different guise and perhaps more selectively. As I said it seems clumsily handled. Perhaps MNHQ could negotiate how the material is handled, journo to journo.

PeachyWipesHerBumOnTheDM · 13/08/2009 13:27

Someone needas to namechange to 'YouShouldBeAShamedToPrinthis' then start a few target interest threads

PerArduaThinksFucktheDM · 13/08/2009 13:27

How about notwavingjustsettingfiretothedm?

StealthBearWipesBumOnDailyMail · 13/08/2009 13:28

Oh I've stolen one
Sorry Peachy
Was thinking as a bear I'd hardly have anything soft and fluffy - not like those pampered Charmin bears

notwavingjustironing · 13/08/2009 13:28

am liking, but it just doesn't sound rude enough

PeachyWipesHerBumOnTheDM · 13/08/2009 13:28

No no, feel free Stealth the more the better!

I can change mine, hang on.....

PerArduaThinksFucktheDM · 13/08/2009 13:29

Ooh - notwavingjustwankingpauldacre?

daftpunk · 13/08/2009 13:29

mamazon;

i might hold a few daily mail type opinions...but that isn't against the law.

what i will never understand is how most posters on here claim to be liberal thinking intelligent people...yet as soon as i open my mouth about ...lets say, "immigration"..i'm told to shut up and stop being a fascist.....that attitude is, in it's self...fascist.

you will not, and can not accept that people have different opinions....those opinions might go against your political views....but that's democracy isn't it.

notwavingjustironing · 13/08/2009 13:30
BlehdyDM · 13/08/2009 13:30

I agree with whoever suggested that at least they should ask the posters who they are copying and pasting quoting, whether or not they have their permission. The Times tried this once or twice, but it didn't seem to get anywhere (same thing, "In AIBU this week ...")

I really don't see how some things would be intresting to a nonMNer, and having to constantly have terms explained really detracts from the reading.

so, to prevent DM plagiarism quoting:

  • Have DM slagging off name, lots of swear words, references to Socialism
  • Talk about bumsex
  • Slag off DM
  • Use an MN term, such as fanjo or norkage, every few words.
