"on mumsnet this week" in the Mail. Is this a new thing

Came across this this morning when I should have been working

Is this a new weekly rip-off by the Mail? Or has it been going on for months and I'm behind the times as usual

I'm not quite as virulently anti the Mail as mnetters, find it silly rather than the end of civilisation as we know it. But still ...

blehdydm;

the mumsnet links would be just one part of the journos job....she's doing lots of other reporting im sure.

plus, what do TV critics do?....get paid ££££££ to watch the telly and write a few paragraphs about coronation street and eastenders....nice work if you can get it.

jujumaman · 13/08/2009 15:31

dp

Do you work in journalism?

Two things - first the journalist here is a freelance. She would be paid a fee to do this article. Not much admittedly in the current climate. It wouldn't be one of a quagmire of tasks she was paid a flat rate for.

Second, why don't you watch EastEnders tonight and produce 300 words on it for tomorrow morning. Readable, witty, insightful words. If you can do that, because it's much harder than it appears, then perhaps you could be a tv critic. (though they too aren't paid £££££££)

On a more serious note still, someone from Babyworld was featured in a DM article a while back talking about a medical condition.

Last week a thread about her dd's toilet training problems was printed in the paper, complete with name and photo of her and her dd. She knew nothing about it. A atatement on BW says she is mortified. It contained very personal info.

daftpunk · 13/08/2009 15:39

juju;

no, i don't work in journalism, and agree that being a TV critic is probably alot harder than it looks. I could however, watch eastenders tonight and produce 300 readable, witty, and insightful words for tomorrow morning.

K999 · 13/08/2009 15:42

Ooh cant wait DP!

islandofsodor · 13/08/2009 15:43

Apologies, the article was in the Telegraph, It was the 7 year old toilet training one that was discussed onhere. The mum did not giver permission.

BitOfFun · 13/08/2009 15:44

Islandofsodor, that is disgraceful

jujumaman · 13/08/2009 15:44

Go on then, dp! I challenge you.

Is that true about the babyworld article? - I saw that article and was surprised at the personal info being revealed. That same journo was fishing on here for quotes and is indeed fishing today to write the usual tired nonsense about women being "forced" to breastfeed.

daftpunk · 13/08/2009 15:46

hey K999 ...i have left the feminist went nuts thread...only so many links i can cope with..

islandofsodor · 13/08/2009 15:47

Just checked, it was published in both the Daily Mail and the Telegraph.

Am I allowed to quote the BW statement?

D is very distressed about the article being published in the Daily Mail today. She never gave permission for it and is utterly mortified. The Daily Mail have been contacted.
Therefore we will not allow ANY discussion regarding D and the contents of the article in the Daily Mail. Any such posts will be deleted.
This post is not for discussion any replies will be deleted.
Thank you for your understanding.

The original thread has been deleted.

K999 · 13/08/2009 15:48

Yes. Its all completely bonkers. It was quite funny for a while but then I got so bored...yawn...I have left them to it!!

daftpunk · 13/08/2009 15:50

agree K999.....they get so deep they're almost drowning...

K999 · 13/08/2009 15:51

It must be the weight of all that hair!!

daftpunk · 13/08/2009 15:52

juju;

i couldn't do it...i'm talking shite.

(well, i could if someoone paid me £5000.)

daftpunk · 13/08/2009 15:54

K999

daftpunk · 13/08/2009 15:54

oh btw, someone thought we were the same person...ha ha ha

K999 · 13/08/2009 15:57

I could not be you. I could never find anything 'witty' to say about Eastenders!!

BlehdyDM · 13/08/2009 16:00

You see, islandofsodor's post has just confirmed my rather dim view of journalists. I did submit a very narky comment on the Timesonline website, saying it was a cheap trick to present the two pieces of information they did in the way they did (to provoke outrage). Strangely, it hasnà't been published (though tons of outraged comments have).

DailyMailCanLickMyBalls · 13/08/2009 16:02

islandofsodor, so was it that she agreed to be in the Telegraph then, but not the Daily Mail? Just looking at the Telegraph article again, and the photo of her and her daughter is by one of their regular photographers. Still, it's very shabby of the Telegraph to allow reproduction, sell it on, or whatever they do, to just anyone without the permission of the subject. I've seen Guardian pieces reappear on the DM too - it's most unsettling!

daftpunk · 13/08/2009 16:04

you sure bout that K.?.. i'm a londoner right..but i tell ya...the eastend ain't nothing like what you see on the telly..that's like the eastend from 50 years ago...all the old eastenders live in essex now.....the eastend of london is a total dump...

jujumaman · 13/08/2009 16:05

You don't say dp

Sadly, or not depending on your pov, tv critics get paid rather a lot less than £5000 a time.

OP posts:
daftpunk · 13/08/2009 16:07

but then i think northerners live like they do on coronation street...i'm sure they don't

daftpunk · 13/08/2009 16:11

juju;

are you jaci stephen..?

islandofsodor · 13/08/2009 16:15

From what I gather she did not agree to be in either. She was featured in an article in the paper a while back (I googled her name) about a completely unrelated item, a medical condition she suffers from.

BitOfFun · 13/08/2009 16:19

She has been done up like a kipper, poor woman
