I can't decide whether this is very sad or quite enterprising. A bit of both I think.

What did amaze me is that a medical professional endorsed her virginity at a press conference!

story here - warning, it's in the DM!

Have a look in Relationships, Manatee.

Either way, do you think men do get respect?

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 12/05/2009 23:00

i remember at college when we were so so poor - saying how we could ....

tattifer · 12/05/2009 23:01

"if you were doing it because it was what the man with the money wanted." But Muff, she was doing it because she wanted his money!

it was just the implication that women cannot be powerful when it comes to sex. Dominatrices out there?

MANATEEequineOHARA · 12/05/2009 23:01

Muffle (and others thinking like that), switch it AROUND, stop thinking it is the MONEY the women needs, what about the BODY that the man wants.
Does anyone see it as women exploiting men's weaknesses for financial gain???

Sorry, not weakness, just 'nature', or 'desire' or something!

scottishmummy · 12/05/2009 23:02

breathtaking that some pile in to criticise her not the dirty sleazes who want to buy her like a commodity.a consumer durable to e used and disposed off

They are they debased individuals

she is sad, misguided in the belief she is saving and accruing for her future.it isnt like she wants the cash for plastic titties. she is in a warped way trying to accrue cash to enhance her career/life chances

muffle · 12/05/2009 23:03

I think that's one of my points tattifer. Prostitution is extremely widespread and normal, men who use it are normal. they take that normalisation of taking power over a woman's body through financial superiority back into their normal lives, and that attitude seeps through society. And we do have a society in which men physically oppress women and expect sex in return for financial input, even in "normal" relationships, and women play along with that. You might say that's OK too - but I don't think it is, because IMO it's a fundamental source of many men's deep disrespect for women and fuels things like domestic violence.

Vittoria · 12/05/2009 23:03

No, I think it was for an "education" Paula.

I think Paula Yates would have applauded. Many 18 year old girls give up their virginity and get nothing but chlamydia. So part of a womans power is with her sexuality. There is no need to fall immediatly down the silppery slope to female trafficking, unless we do that with all acts of consentual sex

PortoPandemico · 12/05/2009 23:03

I'm sure they are, but they are just spending 50 quid on a brief thrill. The bloke that paid that money for a shag, could have afforded to set up her education. And if he was a DECENT bloke that is what he would have done.

Some women choose to work for their money. Total patronising shite to suggest that women don't have a choice, or that an 18 year old adult can't think for herself.

This woman decided to sell her virginity to the highest bidder, and got herself organised to do it online and also seems to be going great guns on the publicity side now the deed is done.

I think she's a stupid cow, but you can't say she 'had no choice' or was being exploited.

MANATEEequineOHARA · 12/05/2009 23:05

Marymoc-I generally avoid 'relationships', but I know all about men who think sex is a right, I don't need to look on a forum.

tattifer · 12/05/2009 23:06

Yes Manatee. Therein lies our power!!

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 12/05/2009 23:07

she has sold her self respect
if she were an addict i would sympathise much more

PortoPandemico · 12/05/2009 23:07

Violet - I have to strongly disagree with you! She wanted to to do something SO badly she saw this as her only choice.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 12/05/2009 23:08

she was bloody wrong then Porto

PortoPandemico · 12/05/2009 23:09

Men's weaknesses! I am truly speechless!

tattifer · 12/05/2009 23:09

like domestic violence.

A whole other thread. For the record, DV is not about a stereotypical disrespect for women. How could it be when one of the most well hidden crimes in this country is domestic violence against men.

violethill · 12/05/2009 23:11

Porto - in which case we could all use that argument. I'd badly like to retrain for a new career but can't afford to. So I could say that prostitution is my 'only choice'. I just hope if I took that route I wouldn't then bleat that I'd been exploited. Though in fairness (and ironically) the woman in case doesn't seem to be bleating at all - she's quite happy with her decision. It's the man haters who are bleating.
