I can't decide whether this is very sad or quite enterprising. A bit of both I think.

What did amaze me is that a medical professional endorsed her virginity at a press conference!

story here - warning, it's in the DM!

Sorry that first line of mine is wrong. I was referring to this "Some vile pimp controlling a women'sbody is wrong, choosing to do it is NOT"

violethill · 12/05/2009 22:48

'Let's talk about the guy who wanted to pay her for sex though. What kind of a man does that?'

A tramp like her I guess! I think they both got what they deserve!

tattifer · 12/05/2009 22:48

no woman's value...

Vittoria · 12/05/2009 22:49

I think she will go far if she escapes the hounding of disapproving women.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 12/05/2009 22:49

dreadful

and lazy - she could have worked

muffle · 12/05/2009 22:50

Agree Mary. It creates an inherent imbalance - between the man with the money and the woman with the body for sale. The imbalance is because he, too, has a body - but she doesn't have the money until she gives up bodily power and integrity (I don't mean moral integrity, I mean physical integrity - her body is compromised). It's not a straight swap. It is also extremelt bad for men's understanding of and opinion of women. They think they can have what they want if they can pay for it financially. That leaches into many relationships and marriages that aren't officially "prostitution".

Disenchanted3 · 12/05/2009 22:50

i was refering to her selling her virginity, not your children.

PortoPandemico · 12/05/2009 22:50

At then end of the day (horrible cliche I know) women have been doing this self same thing for EVER! They have done it for money, power, prestige, fame, FOOD even.

It is not something to be proud of, though I can understand fully through history, and even in the current day, why it might happen.
God knows, if my child was starving i would do literally ANYTHING.

That is not quite the case here. But i find it really TRAGIC that this poor girl, from apoor country sees this as her only option to make a better life for herself. And I hope the bloke who PAID for this has a horrible painful death.

tattifer · 12/05/2009 22:51

"So are all prostitutes tramps then?"

Apparently so Vittoria, accordingly to piano leg cover uppers! No, as I think you already know, prostitutes are not tramps, they're women trying, for whatever reason, to earn money in a way that places them in danger in all kinds of ways. The men that purchase the goods aren't damned, but apparently the girls are.

MANATEEequineOHARA · 12/05/2009 22:52

Annie Sprinkle Started her career as a prostitute, she did not see it that way though, she was a masseur who enjoyed having sex after!!! (And has since made a name for herself in challenging gender/sex assumptions)

MaryMOC- But the women has the body, you take that away, the act does not happen...

tattifer · 12/05/2009 22:53

dis

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 12/05/2009 22:54

"The men that purchase the goods aren't damned"

Really? I don't see a lot of respect for men who use prostitutes on this site?

I am more concerned about the fact that it was unprotected sex. Anything else well .. it is something you can come to terms with if you begin to regret it, you cannot come to terms wiith being HIV positive so easily.

tattifer · 12/05/2009 22:55

As for "she gives up bodily power" Have you never been on top?

MANATEEequineOHARA · 12/05/2009 22:55

I don't see a lot of conversations about men who use prostitutes on this site!

muffle · 12/05/2009 22:55

I don't disapprove of her so much, or label her a slut or a tramp. In fact I can perfectly see why she saw it as a good way to get money. It's the whole set-up of prostitution that I have a problem with, and the men that take part.

PortoPandemico · 12/05/2009 22:56

Actually I agree with you tattifer. Every night on my drive home from work, I pass through a bit of the red light district. There is a beautiful woman in a window at the first set of traffic lights. Framed in red neon. I bet when she was a little girl, she didn't imagine that as a career. I often wonder about her, and how she came to be there.

PaulaYatesBiggestFan · 12/05/2009 22:57

she prostituted herself out of greed

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 12/05/2009 22:57

Different things for different women tattifer.

I doubt that prostitutes always enjoy. The girl in the article was lucky.

MANATEEequineOHARA · 12/05/2009 22:58

But what about a women who can think for herself, arranging it for herself because that is what she wants to do. I cannot believe people are calling her a tramp, how stupid and naive.

violethill · 12/05/2009 22:58

They were both consenting adults. She knew perfectly well what she was doing - it's ludicrous to claim the man 'should have known better'! They both knew exactly what the deal was.

muffle · 12/05/2009 22:58

OK I know I'm being po-faced about this! (Because it does dismay me) But - wouldn't matter if you were on top, if you were doing it because it was what the man with the money wanted.

tattifer · 12/05/2009 22:58

The men who go to prostitutes are surprisingly normal, and come from all walks of life. Many are happily married, many have reputable jobs, live in nice parts of town and are not quite so easy to spot as their wives often believe the average prostitutes are...

MANATEEequineOHARA · 12/05/2009 22:59

Greed? Well nevermind anyway, her body, her profit to use greedily (on education)
