!!!

Apparently the council were 'bombarded' with demands from the public for a lasting tribute.

I don't think it's appropriate, it could well be downright tacky.

Or is it just me?

Sorry but people die from cancer every day, they are all someone's mum/dad/brother/sister/wife/husband/child. This can't be done for everyone right? What warrants the exception here?

I agree with you.

FFS.

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 30/03/2009 17:52

that's going a bit far. I had every sympathy for her, and for her boys. But a statue NO thank you.

madwomanintheattic · 30/03/2009 17:52

it's not even april fool's day until weds...
not sure whether to laugh or cry tbh.

it'd be a magnet for vandals.

LIZS · 30/03/2009 17:52

A tragic story, yes but a sadly all too commonplace one of children losing a mum too soon to cancer.

PersonalClown · 30/03/2009 17:52

I echo Belgianbun. No one should have to end their life like that and I feel for those poor boys of her but what did she really do apart from a bit of fundraising and lots of media to make sure her boys were looked after? (nothing wrong with that IMO)
I'm sure we all know someone that has/had cancer of some description.
It really is a bit too far.

KingRolo · 30/03/2009 17:55

belgianbun - I was thinking about Jane Tomlinson too. The local council were petitioned to erect a statue in her honour I think but her family's wish was for the money to be spent on cancer research instead.

To be honoured, one must have earned the honour. Normally at least.

I'd welcome a statue for Jane Tomlinson. There's someone worth honouring.

5intheEgg · 30/03/2009 17:56

Will this be put up next to the one of marie Curie? Oh wait....she doesn't have one, even after all her good work

Tortington · 30/03/2009 17:57

ffs. she wasn't really anybody of worth

Beetroot · 30/03/2009 17:58

If the local community want it then I guess their wishes should be respected

scrooged · 30/03/2009 17:59

Is there one of the suffragettes anywhere?

There's one of Oliver Cromwell outside parliament you know.

KingRolo · 30/03/2009 17:59

The local community will probably have forgotten about Jade in a year or so, once the fuss has died down.

Oh dear Christ tell me this is a piss take.

purepurple · 30/03/2009 18:19

well, maybe the trashy mags will pay for it, they made enough money out of her

why can't she just have a plaque on a bench somewhere?

noddyholder · 30/03/2009 18:20

fgs this country is becoming a laughing stock

KingRolo · 30/03/2009 18:20

Apart from anything else, a statue of Jade would look irredeemably naff.

Don't ever read or believe effing sky news. Even the bbc are bad with poor reporting.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 30/03/2009 18:21

'some people' in Bermondsey want a statue.

'some people' said Michael Jackson will attend her funeral
