ach I should fuck off this thread - I'm tired and stressed and making even more of a hash of explaining myself

wannaBe · 18/02/2009 23:44

And madeleine mccann would still be alive were it not for the stupidity of her parents but oh no we must only judge them if they are men who are doing the unthinkable.

Anyone else we'll donate to their fund and turn them into national heroes...

BlackLetterDay · 18/02/2009 23:45

This is one of those tragic accidents that happen out of the blue, and I agree I have had many close calls with my kids where I was shaking and had could of flashbacks for days.

Although I have to say if I was the wife I could never even look at my Dp again after this happened, at best I would want to stab him in the eye. In a way I do feel sorry for the bloke because his grief will be so amplified by the fact it wouldn't of happened if he wasn't such a cheating cockface.

AitchTwoOh · 18/02/2009 23:45

oh wannabe... if you don't want to hear about news stories, don't listen to the news. it's totally relevant to the story that he was copping off and not paying attention. and yes, he could have been tying his shoelace with his back to the buggy for several seconds, but the presence of the mistress in any case would have been reported.

Pan · 18/02/2009 23:46

wanna - Madeleine may still be alive???

TheRealPhartiphukborlz · 18/02/2009 23:46

well said wannabe

Ponders · 18/02/2009 23:46

wannabe, the other parents on holiday with the McCanns also left their children alone that night. Theirs are all still alive. It's not the same.

lisalisa · 18/02/2009 23:48

Curlyhairedassassin - yes it was terrifying. I found to my shock that I had also wet myself afterwards although only realised it when sitting in ambulance with dd en route to hosptial to be checked. that experience counts as one of the most frightening of my life.

AitchTwoOh · 18/02/2009 23:48

pan, you've got to be kidding... this lot turn on women in a heartbeat.

i think the mccann case is different because there was no present danger. they didn't strap their kids into a buggy on a windy day, leave the brake off beside a fifteen foot drop and then go for dinner.

moondog · 18/02/2009 23:50

How awful Lisa.

Pan · 18/02/2009 23:50

yes, stand corrected on reflection, Aitch.

AitchTwoOh · 18/02/2009 23:51

thank god everything was okay, lisa.

AitchTwoOh · 18/02/2009 23:52

i see the windy day thing is disputed. gosh, how terrible, the whole thing is awful. that poor woman.

BlackLetterDay · 18/02/2009 23:52

I agree Aitch, I think women are more villified in circumstances like this. On the epic McCann thread there was much morre focus on how "cold" and "unemotional" Kate McCann was than Gerry's behaviour, he could of been sipping pina coladas by the pool, and noone would have mentioned it.

Fimbo · 18/02/2009 23:52

Dh and I were studying a map of Edinburgh Zoo and had thought the buggy brake was on, dd rolled straight down quite a steep slope, she only stopped because she hit the snack hut thing. Dh & I were completely unaware until someone tapped us on the shoulder.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 18/02/2009 23:53

I dont think that this should have been reported in the way that it has.

The papers ran the story to say that the poor girl had died, it DID NOT need a follow up to say it was because the father was kissing his mistress.

It could have happened if he'd lent to tie his shoe lace, sneezed, or slipped.

Nobody other than the girls mother needed to know that the man was with his mistress. It makes me very angry that the papers will further cause pain to a family suffering a loss.

wannaBe · 18/02/2009 23:53

I never said I didn't want to hear the news. I said there is no reason why the public needs to know the ins and outs of this man's personal life.

No ponders it is exactly the same. The mccanns left three small children alone in a hotel and left the doors unlocked while they went for dinner. They knowingly put their children at risk. Not necessarily of being snatched, but of waking up in a room alone, where there was a cooker, and access through the door to the swimming pool that lay between them and the restaurant where their parents were having fun. The fact that Madeleine disappeared was an unforeseen event, but there were many other risks that any loving parent would have foreseen and would not have put their child in that situation.

Just because the children of the friends are still alive doesn't make them any less negligent.

AitchTwoOh · 18/02/2009 23:55

see, fimbo, if you had been studying a map in front of a lions and tigers and bears enclosure which had a big hole in the fence, i think you'd have had more of a case to answer. especially if he wasn't your dh.

you just cannot fuck about near water.

BlackLetterDay · 18/02/2009 23:57

I must admit I really don't think this and the McCann case are directly comparable. Not that it matters any way, both are equally tragic.

AitchTwoOh · 18/02/2009 23:58

right, wannabe, so the mccanns aren't loving parents? were you a bit crackers about them before? it's all coming baaaack.

and elf, if i was the wife i think i'd have more to worry about right now that people knowing that my husband had been having an affair. if anyone seriously thinks it's not relevant to the story they're off their chuff.

Clary · 18/02/2009 23:59

You said it there aitch - "you cannot fuck about near water".

I have told my kids the story about the Scarbororoad (Marine Drive) because we live nowhere near the sea now but I have and I know to ultra respect it.

wannaBe · 19/02/2009 00:03

So how does it not compare then?

Man compromises the safety of his child while getting off with his mistress.

Couple compromise the safety of their children so they can go out for dinner...

People choose who to judge and who not to judge. I'm not quite sure how we come to these choices, but there is clearly some reason why some people are judged and others aren't, even if they have been equally negligent.

AitchTwoOh · 19/02/2009 00:08

crackers.

SparklyGothKat · 19/02/2009 00:36

WRISTS STRAPS!!! I always use the wrist strap on my buggy especially if on a hill.

BlackLetterDay · 19/02/2009 00:52

It doesn't compare because the choice to leave children alone in an apartment was considered and tested. They had considered the risks and possibly tested it on previous nights, arguably the disappearance of Madeleine involved a third unconsidered party.

The reason this child died wasn't due to a reasoned and considered decision, rather an oversight. The father either neglected to put the brakes on, or did not consider the strenghth of the wind when leaving go of the pram. Who knows, but its not the same at all.
