'Mistress' who uses that word other than a tabloid hack? It was pretty obvious in the first account of the accident when it referred to the 'father and a female friend' what the situation was. Don't see why it needed any further mention. 'Mistress' is a very pejorative and derogatory term to use for a person, and purely used to inflame the situation, and make it even more distressing for the people DIRECTLY - which is presumably none of us here.

EldonAve · 23/02/2009 15:26

Buggy was a Phil & Teds apparently

pramspotter · 23/02/2009 15:29

Oh my god. I hope it wasn't a phil and teds. No one would be dumb enough to let one of those things go near the sea would they? You can understand it if your toddler just ran off or you fell or something.

But why would you let go of it in a place like that to kiss someone?

EldonAve · 23/02/2009 15:37

the sun has a pic

pramspotter · 23/02/2009 15:44

Oh wait I know someone who would be dumb enough to let go of a double pushchair on a cliff by the sea in order to snog someone!

.......A love sick idiot having an affair.

WhatFreshHellIsThis · 23/02/2009 18:32

Trust the Sun - 'the death buggy', I mean ffs. talk about inflammatory.

personally, i think these poor people have been through enough. yes, he was daft to let go of the buggy. yes, he should have been paying more attention. yes, his attention was distracted by another woman. but if his wife can forgive him, or at least make some peace with him, that's good enough for me.

Desiderata · 23/02/2009 20:34

It wouldn't be good enough for me, I'm afraid.

If a nanny had done such a thing, she would be in court for gross negligence.

I fail to see why a parent is exempt from the usual rigours of the law.

nappyaddict · 23/02/2009 21:27

Where's the police statement?

BananaSkin · 23/02/2009 21:45

As an aside, I wouldn't like to be working as the PR person for Phil and Teds right now.

MsHighwater · 23/02/2009 23:08

Desiderata, isn't it a bit early to assume that he is exempt?

Isn't the whole point that various posters (myself included) would like to get across is that judgement should be left to those in possession of the facts?

violethill · 23/02/2009 23:12

I agree msHighwater. Unfortunately some posters seem to think that if they read a news report then they are in possession of the facts!

Twinklemegan · 23/02/2009 23:26

When is the word "mistress" ever used in this day and age? What a blatant ruse to sell more papers. Nothing is black and white, and the only people who know the facts are those involved. The tabloids should butt out of a family tragedy.

Blimey, if he was indeed playing away he's certainly paying for it now, poor man.

Desiderata · 24/02/2009 21:53

I was referring to WFH's post, immediately before mine.

Whether he will face the rigours of the law is not for us to know. Quite.

But to assume that he's already paid the price is somewhat naive. A child died due to negligence.

He may have a lot more shit awaitin' him yet.

MsHighwater · 24/02/2009 22:12

Desiderata - you see, there you go again. "A child died due to negligence"? Whether or not it was negligence will, surely, be one of those things to be determined by those in possession of all the relevant facts.

As for the price he has paid for what happened - negligence or otherwise - , it is, indeed, heavy and it is no less so for being shared by those around him.

Desiderata · 24/02/2009 22:16

MsHighWater , the media have printed that the couple have owned to kissing whilst in charge of a pram periously close to high water.

I doubt very much that those circumstances would have been printed, were they not, essentially true.

The fact that this sort of tragedy happens infrequently says it all, really.

MsHighwater · 24/02/2009 22:21

Desiderata, your faith in the tabloids is touching. It certainly might turn out that they were negligent. However, I still think that it is a judgement best made after careful consideration of all the relevant information. You don't tend to get that from the redtops, I reckon.

Desiderata · 24/02/2009 22:34

MsHighWater, I don't even buy newspapers. They are a luxury I can ill-afford.

You are beginning to sound like a pompous twat.

MsHighDudgeon would be more appropriate.

A child died. Another child could have died. If it were not reported in a newspaper, would it be any less true?

Pan · 25/02/2009 00:12

Desi - parents aren't exempt from the 'rigours' of the law. But chucking around terms like 'negligence' is a bit irresponsible when, as has been said, we only have newspapers repoting of it to go on. And > abusing other posters isn't on. Sweetie.

Desiderata · 25/02/2009 00:22

Oh, fuck off, you boring old cunt.

Pan · 25/02/2009 00:24

Nah. Sharn't. I like you too much.

Desiderata · 25/02/2009 00:25

... particularly when you're in the habit of changing names, and gender, to shit stir.

Something I've never done.

Do your worst, kid. I think you're an arse.

wotzy · 25/02/2009 00:25

pmsl

Desiderata · 25/02/2009 00:26

And I like to you too.

Cunt.

Pan · 25/02/2009 00:27

Steady!! Am Pan. Always have been. Male. Always have been. Arse? Not so. But I still like you.

Desiderata · 25/02/2009 00:30

Bollocks! You adopted a French woman's name a couple of years ago, and you hounded me around the block!

Cool ...
