MN and Moldie spat apparently merits billing between Gazan civilians being killed by the hundred by Israeli missiles, and world hunger

Another disproportionate response?

It is ridiculous but i think the only person who should be ebarrassed is the journo who wrote it.

rubyslippers · 28/12/2008 12:45

i think the Indie should be ashamed

so un-newsworthy

IllegallyBrunette · 28/12/2008 12:46

Oh and the moldie who leaked it.

AuntieMaggie · 28/12/2008 12:48

I thought it was a joke about it being in the paper!

dh's response, when he saw it was the Independent was "oh, I hadn't realised it (ie the moldie spat) was that boring..."

hatwoman · 28/12/2008 12:53

you can;t "leak" something that's on a public forum

LittleJingleBellas · 28/12/2008 12:53

No, not at all, why should I be?

Would be embarressed if I were the journalist though. I mean, basic stuff - names, quotes, correct attributions. The things that get drummed into you when you're a trainee at a local newspaper.

reindeercantdancethetango · 28/12/2008 12:55

It was a shit piece of journalism, I mean its not like the names were easily confusable!

LittleJingleBellas · 28/12/2008 12:55

Journalists I should say.

Yes it's absurd to talk about leaking. FGS this is an open forum which is regularly mined for meeja stories by unimaginative bored not very thorough journalists. I expect some of them post here occasionally too.

shootRudolphinthehip · 28/12/2008 12:59

My favourite thing about the whole article was how they found the most emotive, uncharacteristic and vitriolic quotes that they could and created them in to a wee list, rather than even integrating them in the main body of the text. How sodding lazy.

The whole thing's a crock of shit and am mortified that makes what happened look so petty and childish (which is was but now everyone else knows it too) and makes an arse out of MN which is such a valuable resource for so many.

Boo

Tortington · 28/12/2008 13:05

i am roffling here that MY quote didn't have swearing in ..ha ..haa .ha..haa.

you're all so common with your potty mouths, indicitive of mn these days - the class of people and the perfect back up for the " we need a seperate area cos we iz famous" argument. meh, for the other thread spose.

how could it not have been a moldy? only someone within the bizarre episode and a member of this site would find it at all interesting. why pick this site, this particular fight?

roisin · 28/12/2008 13:11

The situation in Gaza is horrific: I was crying in church this morning.

To put the moldie row as a headline link thingie under that picture is just tasteless and shocking.

Surely journalists have better things to do with their time than write about us.

Marina · 28/12/2008 13:12

Could not agree more roisin.
That juxtaposition just shows how morally and editorially impoverished the IoS is now.

stuffmyturkey · 28/12/2008 13:15

marina your "morally and editorially impoverished" comment will have them rolling in the aisles at the sindie

sorry but true

MrsWeasleyStrokesSantasSack · 28/12/2008 13:19

I am a regular but I didnt even read the moldies thread as it was too long and I wasnt interested. That is the beauty of a forum you pick what you want to read.
Its a shame that some have left and I miss COD for her honest comments on some issues. I miss LittleLapin because she could always be relied upon to be sensible or funny depending on the occassion. There are plenty of posters left on MN who are filling the shoes of others.

Read the newspaper article and just think that the editor must be crazy. Maybe the reporter couldn't be bothered to work over xmas so wrote this instead because lets face it who is interested except maybe other MNers.

If this is news then maybe the reporter needs to consider a career change!

Marina · 28/12/2008 13:19

I don't give a flying fuck what the IoS think of me tbh turkey

stuffmyturkey · 28/12/2008 13:21

no I'm sure Marina and completely good for you

it's just such a rose tinted view of journalism

but nowt wrong wi that

Marina · 28/12/2008 13:21

I used to love that paper so much
No fool like an old rose-tinted one!

jollyoldstnickschick · 28/12/2008 13:23

I didnt know little lapin had left -why???

NotanOtter · 28/12/2008 13:24

embarrassed? yes actually

UnfortunatelyMe · 28/12/2008 13:25

It must have something to do with money per click on the link, and nothing else surely. I mean, really, front page news. Its embarrassing.

foxinsocks · 28/12/2008 13:26

it is editorially impoverished and that's a fact tbh

I don't know why people are ascribing so much to it. It's just a bit of fluff to fill a page, a more light hearted article. If you can all tell me none of you read the lighthearted stuff in papers and it should all be filled with serious news, then you're better readers than me .

I doubt very much it was written by a moldie or a mumsnetter....it would have been more accurate and better written for a start though the misquoting is v poor.
