No men on women's hospital wards - Good!

Trans women (men) don't want to be on wards with men, but they are quite happy to inflict themselves onto women's wards, no matter how uncomfortable that makes real women. Make it make sense!

Men shouldn’t be staying overnight on maternity wards either

What I have noticed is it’s always trans women out there screaming about discrimination and being ‘real women’. Yet you rarely hear trans men (female to male transition) doing the same.

This is how a lot of transwomen give themselves away - the male aggression is still there. Women and transmen don't have this.

Thank goodness this wasn't a thing when mine were born - I would have hated that.

I worked on a mixed hospital ward where I remember a lady wanting to use the commode. She was not well enough to use the toilet on the ward.
There was a man in the bed next to her, sitting out in his chair.
There was literally a curtain between this poor lady on a commode and this man. She was mortified and it wasn’t pleasant for him either.

Single sex wards are essential for dignity as well as safety.

You may not be bothered but you do not consent for the rest of us.

To be honest we really should have single rooms for all and get rid of wards completely

On the women's ward, looking at a woman sized 'man', with female facial bone structure - even with any amount of facial hair - I reckon I could Columbo the riddle.

Edited

You absolutely win today. My new hero.

Kiwi here, I remember being wheeled onto a side ward while awaiting surgery, the hospital was having renovations and they were throwing people everywhere.
As soon as I got one the ward I said to my son, close the Curtains as 4 out off 6 of us were male. Not long after a nurse asked me if I could open my curtains as it was spoiling the view of the person nextdoor, I said yes if they put pajama pants on, hospitals provide night wear and all the men were walking around in their underwear.
My son didn't want to leave me alone in the ward as he said If they got wandering around at night it's not the old lady they will visit but me
So our male relatives are also not happy with men on women's ward's or mixed wards.

Spoiling the view!! Good grief. I would always shut the curtains.

TheGlitterFairy · 16/10/2026 12:36

Ah the trans agenda again. While everyone can do as they wish with their own life, “identify as” a man/ women/ cat/ whatever - I’m not sure why the rest of society has to conform to this nonsense.

Biological men and women should be on their respective wards in hospital/ toilets / changing rooms etc.

A cohort of actual women should not be forced to share a hospital ward with a man who for whatever reason apparently “thinks” he is a woman. Newsflash - you’re not.

Look at any trans rights demo images and you will see this is not true.

Oh we've seen them. It's not the transmen, while they are there, mostly waving the placards with threats of violence. Can't think why.

murasaki · 16/10/2026 12:55

It's also not the transmen talking selfies in the male toilets.

Where are the trans people in this thread saying horrible things about women's bodies and minds?

My premise throughout this thread is simply that putting trans people on their natal sex ward is not a simple solution. In some cases it just shifts the risk. Which doesn't mean I think trans people should go on wards of their declared gender, just that there's further thinking to be done to enable privacy and dignity for all.

That doesn't mean it's women's problem to solve: it's the NHS's. But women on here talking about rot pockets and psych wards is just zealotry of a different type. The vast vast majority of trans people are just people, often autistic people, quietly living their lives in a way that they feel makes most sense for them. Like the transman in the deli and the transwoman at the corner shop in my local town.

I am neither startlingly naive (yes I have many times seen "terf is a slur" and wire covered baseball bats) nor starry eyed. I just know trans people have an equal right to privacy and dignity, even when sick, as any other person.

Well yes, quite, trans people do have an equal right to privacy and dignity but there’s no reason why the NHS (or anywhere) should prioritise them over other vulnerable groups, if that’s what your suggesting.

KimMumsnet · 16/10/2026 13:14

If my sister is assaulted on a male ward then I will come for all of the transphobes who made it possible. No question.

If a man rapes a man, you will come for women? Have you heard of the word misogyny?

Should the women who HAVE been raped by males on womens wards, come for you, or for trans people?

The reality is TW will get a side room if available in the NHS. They will get privacy and dignity. Theres no further thinking necessary.

What they want is to be put on a bay with women, this is not about their safety its about affirming mens delusions at the expense of women's privacy and dignity.

I disagree that the vast majority of TIMs are "ordinary people". Everyone is an "ordinary person", but TIM have high rates of autogynophillia, and I would argue if incapable of understanding why women feel uncomfortable with them around, high levels of misogyny. Decent men dont push access to vunerable women and dont ignore women's dignity/safety.

Whether Trans people deserve dignity is irrelevant to the discussion and is just empathy politics. Men dont belong in womens hospital bays/prisons/rape shelter/changing rooms

@KimMumsnet There are many many threads in AIBU which are there for traffic.

I am wondering why out of all of them, you have chosen to move this one to somewhere it cannot be seen or commented on?

In an ideal world they would get a seperate room for their comfort and the comfort of others, its unfair on women to have to share a space with a biological man. But these are often needed for infectious patients, those on palliative care and other reasons.

Other countries, where hospitals generally have rooms of 1 or 2, don't have this issue as much, but we seem to insist that rooms of 6 or 8 patients is conducive to recovery from illness or surgery. The reason given may be cost, but I suspect it may be cheaper long term to have smaller rooms as these are likely to enable shorter stays.

In an ideal world everyone would have a separate room, so, yet again, it comes down to this one group taking from others.

Easytoconfuse · 16/10/2026 15:48

AIiswatchingyou · 16/10/2026 09:11

@5128gap You raise a good point. Harm has been done to these individuals by the care they have received - affirmative care that has not explored the possible roots of their distress, hormonal changes than cannot be undone and the less common surgical procedures that generally lead to someone who has long term physical problems especially around sexual functioning.

I can see why they are angry. I don't think letting women continue to suffer to assuage mistakes made by others is the right course of action.

Sorry, but women are angry too, and harm has been done to us by at best limiting what we are and aren't allowed to say and do and labelling us. I am in awe of the women who fought to get us to this stage, and I don't see why I should have to think about harm caused by people who made choices that we weren't allowed to make because 'kind' had been weaponised.

Side rooms are important clinical resources; for those who are infectious, for those with low or no immunity, for those who are dying. They must be kept available for these situations not offered to men who demand everyone pretend they are a woman!

@KimMumsnet this is as much AIBU as an are - why do you just consider this post out of all of them to be ‘News’ when it is about the NHS taking 18 months to issue guidance that nearly follows the law? And 10% of voters think they ABU for doing so?

AIiswatchingyou · 16/10/2026 18:03

I thought mumsnet had stopped the censorship about this issue - clearly not, just preferring to 'hide' conversations - likely at the behest of certain posters.

I can find multiple threads on AIBU started today that do not fit there - requests for support, advice etc. Why have they not been moved to more relevant boards?

@KimMumsnet Please move this back

StarChild07 · 16/10/2026 18:14

@KimMumsnet @AIiswatchingyou I did think this a little ‘odd’ too!

fashionqueen0123 · 16/10/2026 18:45

I just read a comment on a Facebook thread about this, from a trans man. They said they’d be fine with being on a female ward as they feel safer around women (they know the risks of men having lived as a woman before) and ultimately their health concerns are still related to female biology. Having a cervix/cancer etc and the main worry at the end of the day is men.

And funnily enough seen a second comment saying basically the same thing. They’d prefer a side room but they recognise their body is a woman’s and they just want the right health care.

So maybe it’s the men who are more annoyed about this.
