Andy Burnham just doesn't get it does he, we don't want anymore migrants/illegals put anywhere not in rich or poor areas we want to stop them coming here full stop.

Mugsey I do honestly think you could help. You sound like a reasonable, well educated person. If you could organise 500, maybe 600 people who share your views and each of you volunteered to house two refugees (who are currently on the list for the barracks in question) that would sort out the issue of the 1200 people who need housing.
Your initiative could then be replicated across the country to help even more people in need.

Done! I’ll let you know what he says and you can stop posting email your MP after every post that isn’t rabidly anti immigrant

Sure. Is it bugging you that you might have to deliver on what you post? I don’t mind if you’re very keen, it’s great. Let’s make it happen.

Are brown people statistically more liable to sexually abuse women? Do you have any research for this?

It is brown people we are talking about. No one is complaining about Australians are they?

How many Australians are coming here illegally and being put up in hotels/HMOs courtesy of the taxpayer? How many Australians are hanging around the streets intimidating females and shitting and pissing wherever takes their fancy? And before anyone starts, this is happening in my town and many towns nearby

why would you think it’s bugging me? I’ve literally emailed my MP. We had a migrant hotel nearby (which I only discovered when it closed down) so I’m sure the government will be happy to purchase my neighbours £850k home for 4 of them, just as you suggest. I’ll keep you updated

I have no idea what you are talking about. What grounds do you have for believing that asylum seekers have a higher rate of stds than the general population?

If you have no idea what I am talking about why reply?

You have no evidence that I suggested they have a higher rate of STDs than the general population, assuming you mean their country of origin? Because quoting this country's (UK) general population would be meaningless, not least because we have very high rates of gonorrhoea and chlamydia.

It’s called practice what you preach. If I walked around with a sign saying refugees welcome, I would actually welcome them in my own town/ home.

rather than “refugees welcome but somewhere else please”

Ok great. It makes sense to match those who are keen.

If say 80% are a no thanks the yeses can show their willing and the problem pretty much dissipates. Everyone has what they’re after.

Not for me, not for my friends. It has got to the point now that we are trying to link up with America and become the 51st state and no longer be part of England.

The area will be ruined if this goes ahead. Totally ruined. I have so much anger for our new PM.

So, what was your opinion on Asylum seeker housing in other parts of the country, like some of the places where the protests were before you heard they were coming to an area near you.

Mugsey62 · Yesterday 14:38

MarmaladeorJam · Yesterday 14:31

This is silly.

First of all, quantity is in play.

Second, people who come from a particular area tend to be a comparable colour.

I would think that the colour of these men is the last thing people have an issue with.

They usually come from very conservative countries whose cultures expect very different things from their women, and allow very different behaviors in their men.

Most of these men will be fine at home in that they conform to the cultural construct of the place.

Transferred here though, that culture will play (for us) as sexist and conservative, with layers of misogyny rolled in.

The simple, easy to see values around women's dress - covered hair or mini skirts for example, versus deeper beliefs around sex before marriage and what that indicates, for them, in the value of a woman.

I do think that the racism accusations around this issue are extremely unfair, even though there will be some - 'cause people 'init?

I have heard many a sneery conversation around this topic in our "leafy suburb."

If bus loads of young men were to arrive tomorrow?

The "racism" would kick in sharpish.

What evidence are you quoting? Are all brown people likely to be conservative?

I am both reasonable and well educated, thanks for spotting that. However I think it's the government's responsibility to meet the nation's commitments towards asylum seekers, not individual charity givers.

The original poster does not speak for me-
nor do any of the other racists or fascist adjacent posters on this topic. People are not illegal. They may arrive by illegal means- but only because there are no legal means to gain asylum in most places. I don’t understand why we do not have a home office outpost in Calais which would mean legal means exist. I so wish people would stop reading and listening to the anti immigration rubbish scum media and equally scum political parties feed them.

I speak for myself thank you and calling people racist might have shut down debate a few years ago but not now people have had enough of mass (especially illegal)immigration. After the Mega Dinghy arriving carrying 230 undocumented fighting age men I'd like to ask when is enough enough or are there never enough like Rachel M(not sure of her name) said until they were planning to house a 1500 or so near her then she soon changed her tune.

The government will buy land and then your neighbours houses won’t be worth £850k when they have a campsite full of immigrants on the doorstep.

It genuinely sounds like a solution, though, because living with ordinary people will help with language and integration skills.
It was a policy with Ukrainians, wasn't it?

So Muslims are more likely to commit sex offences? Do you have any data which supports this?

Edited

@Mugsey62

Surely the ingredients are -

A dense quantity of young men, living together with nothing to do.

Most will have some trauma from the journey, most will be lonely, most will miss home.

Most spend days that turn into years - waiting. No purpose, simply waiting.

Most come from extremely conservative societies compared to ours, and will do what humans do, make assessments and judgements.

That they happen to be Muslim, because they came from Muslim countries is secondary.

If they were to be bus loads of Russian men (white as you can get) I am sure the reaction would be the same - to many, too condensed, too dangerous for the locals (mainly women).

if you read what that thread of posts was actually about the whole point was I have no land for building where I live.

hence, the need for the government to go to less dense areas

You’re very welcome. It is very clear that you are, the reliance on research, statistics and evidence, plus the number of questions you ask in response to other people’s views are always a sign of a highly-educated person on MN. Plus the need to educate others, less fortunate simpletons, and to share your wisdom. You are not only charitable towards people fleeing other countries but also those with opposing political views, poor brainwashed souls. Who knows, by the end of the day you might convert a couple of racists.
I do find it a pity that you are passing the responsibility for housing the arrivals to the government though, you could have done a lot of good.

Yes. I understand people will feel strongly they want to do this, it makes sense to capitalise on it rather than for people who are a no thanks.

Well it would only be because you are female wouldn't it? It wouldn't be because you were little or old etc would it?

I never think like that. Perhaps I should. I've always lived my life as a person rather than as a female or feminist. I suppose I always thought I was as good as any man and lived my life on that basis. My fostered daughter too. It didn't always work out well.

Do you think we had room for immigrants in the working class areas? If they want to do it they will find a way and I’ve seen that firsthand. The financial incentives they offer are too good for landlords and property owners to turn down.

Hi @Mugsey62

Are all brown people likely to be conservative?

I did not claim that nor would I as that would be very silly...

I do claim that the Middle East is conservative compared to us, yes.

I would evaluate that on by sexual freedoms for women, freedom of choice in marriage, clothing choices for women etc.

Please note though that I do not claim better or worse in that statement, just more conservative or less conservative.

Are people in from Middle East usually brown?

Yes.

Does that mean anything at all other than their neck of the woods gets more sun than ours and they have evolved accordingly.

For me, no.

Honestly you’re having your own conversation here. I couldn’t care less if there was a barracks nearby - as I say, there was a hotel- but there won’t be, because there is no barrack and no room to build one.

I would have thought the £4.76 billion budget needed to meet The UK's international obligations to accept asylum seekers needed a government response really. I do my little bit but I haven't got many billions to play with these days.

I do apologise for asking for evidence to support assertions. You are correct, it would be more sociable just to accept hysterical ramblings and not come into conflict with anyone who does not like being challenged for the information they use to form their opinions.

Very patronising of me. It won't happen again.

Err, where do you get the information from that you use to form your opinions, if you don't mind me asking?

White people evolved from brown people not the other way around.

You are making an awful lot of assumptions based on where people come from.

Have you ever met any asylum seekers?
