The Restore Britain March seems to have gone pretty well today from what I can glean online.

It could be a faulty algorithm, but the trouble the PM seemed to think would happen doesn’t seem to have materialised. I’ve seen clips from the march where a diverse mix of people have marched, not just football hooligan types.

I don't disagree with you but £5million, all the police and other administrators who gave up their family time and travelled miles to attend, all the litter/people who had to clear it up too seems a lot. There's a huge opportunity cost there.

It's a high price to achieve what exactly?

I wonder what the aims of the Unite rally were and if the organisers/foreign funders feel they achieved those aims (and was it worth the cost to the society they say they seek to unite?

I live in an area where we have Orange Walks every year and they aren't simply on the big day - they can go on for weeks on the run up. They can't be banned apparently

There were two marches in London on Saturday. Counter protests and the FA Cup final policing - assume that's part of the reason why the final bill was so high

Family Friendly???? WTF

Muslim women being mocked and humIliated on stage … did you miss that?

Yaxley-Lennon saying he would deport ALL immigrants … did you miss that?

Yaxley-Lennon proclaiming on stage that British men should get themselves ‘fit and ready’ for the ‘fight of their lives’ because there’s ‘going to be a fight in this country’ … did you miss that?

People who attend and support Yaxley-Lennon rallies know exactly what the agenda is. Those who pretend it’s just a ‘nice family day out’ are fooling no-one.

Sickening!

Tommy Robinson called for the crowds to get involved in politics by registering to vote and joining a political party.

He then said " Are you ready for the Battle of Britain? 2029 we have an election. We're not asking anyone to go out and fight, but this is the most important moment in our generation."

Is he going to do the same?

Or will he stay in Spain?

He is barred from Reform due to his BNP membership.

I have no idea don't follow him, I was just correcting the pp who obviously has her own agenda and lied about what TR actually said.

Do you think he's going to advise people to vote Labour or SNP? He's previously endorsed Reform candidates.

DuncinToffee · 18/05/2026 11:06

And what does 'Battle of Britain' mean?

Will he oversee it from Spain?

SpryTaupeTurtle · 18/05/2026 11:12

He's not going to tell people to vote SNP or Plaid with the whole premise of these marches being under the banner of British nationalism is he?

What dog-whistling. Like changing his name to try to appeal to what he clearly sees as the masses.

What do you make of Mr Yaxley-Lennon pp?

For goodness sake that's just awful 😞

Take it off as if it's a strip show. Good family entertainment? Horrible.

I don’t have time to read the thread, have to actually do some work.

The Metropolitan Police did an amazing job this weekend, and I am immensely grateful for all of them who gave up their time. And we Londoners had to pay 5 million for this shit.

So frankly, I am sick and tired of all the marches, whatever side you are on. And I reserve the right to not take sides in either camp. And increasingly, to me, that seems to be the most important thing. The right to be on neither side and condemn them both.

As a parent, I am as scared of my kids being brain washed by either side. And as a taxpayer, I am fed up with it all!

So that is that,

We all pay tax - vat on food, clothing, petrol and energy. Very few are exempt from paying council tax; at best it's a 25% discount.

SpryTaupeTurtle · 18/05/2026 11:26

Robinson Co founded the EDL didn't he?

YourAmplePlumPoster · 18/05/2026 11:32

TemperanceWest · 18/05/2026 08:59

Welsh and Scottish nationalist movements are about devolution and independence as well as pride in culture and traditions.

Plaid and the SNP are left leaning and embrace multiculturalism.

English nationalism as practised by Farage and Lowe and Robinson has moved way beyond pride in culture and traditions. It has become about seeing being white English/British as superior and wanting other cultures out or blaming them for the UKs ills. It has embraced far right thinking. It has become white nationalism.

As ever, pictures can tell the story for us. Compare and contrast Plaid Cymru, SNP and Unite the Kingdom marches.

Have a lovely day!

Plaid and SNP totally in thrall to men in dresses. It's not a good place for women to be.

As I said earlier in the thread there are plenty of SNP policies that I don't agree with - pretty sure that there are SNP MPs who didn't agree with certain decisions taken by the party or Scottish Government. I'd rather vote SNP than be aligned to Tommy Robinson

SpryTaupeTurtle · 18/05/2026 11:44

What about Muslim women. How do you think they feel about Tommy and his views?

Sorry, I've gone back and realise my error - I'd thought the "list" post was referring to the extremes of left and right wing politics, not the left and right wings as a whole. I should have been more careful in what I was responding to.

I'll stand by my view that the extremes on both sides give space and succour to antisemites, though not all members of the far left and far right personally hold antisemitic views.

Your original assessment was correct. "Left wing" implies to me a more lefty stance than "centre-left" and incorporates the far-left within it. Same applies to the right.

It's hard to distinguish the [direction]-wing from the far-[direction] when one considers the "public face" of the far-[direction] (e.g. Reform; Green Party) being toned-down "don't say the quiet part out loud" compared to what the grassroots far-[direction] believe (ZOG, blood libel, deportation of anyone not white; defund the police, open all the borders, close all the prisons).

Horseshoe theory is seeing that if you go far enough to the left and right, they develop a lot in common. Banning speech they don't like, putting enemies in brutal camps, "disappearances", kangaroo courts all figure highly when any authoritarian gets into power. Spotting that both sides want to defund the police, albeit for differing reasons, made me think immediately of the horseshoe theory

All this is separate from, and complementary to, the argument that you would struggle to slip a rolling paper between the centre-left and centre-right at times.

Why do you think Mumsnet deletes posts? It’s literally to avoid court cases. Anyone that thinks they have the right to maraude around online accusing people of accepting payment for posts most be delusional, particularly in the era we live in. Anyone sensible would admit they got a bit carried away and stopped digging the hole. I’m happy to be called pathetic and I’m pretty reasonable when it comes to arguing my politics as I’m aware this is a left wing site, but doubling down on accusations of being a shill is unacceptable.

Actually, it's to keep the boards civilised so that posters stay and see the adverts, and to keep the advertisers' cash coming in because no advertiser of anything other than porn wants to be associated with a toxic 4chan-like forum.

sleepwouldbenice · 17/05/2026 23:49

And this sums it up for me
Although people voting for reform is despairing I dont call them racist or far right
I am sure many of the people from the march arent either
But they consciously attended a march organised by someone who is far right and vile. I am not sure how they can justify that
And the led by donkeys clip is hilarious

The Led by Donkey's video was so uplifting, all that talent, joy and life enhancing music. It wasn't aggressive and confrontational, just a reminder of what people can offer the UK

I'm not from London and I don't march in London. No one is asking you to take sides or support any march but people should have the right to peaceful protest, the operative word being peaceful - there have always been marches. This is nothing new.

I’m all for peaceful protest. I just wish people would protest in their own towns instead of polluting London with their lousy behaviour, litter and racism.

That's a little bit conspiracy based isn't it? There's nothing to suggest that the Green party, for example is pretending to be centre left while waiting to jump out and surprise everyone if they ever achieve significant electoral success. The Tory party has long shown its hand as hard right - they're not exactly hiding their purge of the one nation lot.

Sometimes you have to take things on face value.

Or they can be allocated a park and walk around marching in circles for all I care. As that is far easier and cheaper to police!

They are circling anyway. Let them circle.

DuncinToffee · 18/05/2026 12:37

"I am all for peaceful protest"

As long as it's out of sight Hmm
