The Restore Britain March seems to have gone pretty well today from what I can glean online.

It could be a faulty algorithm, but the trouble the PM seemed to think would happen doesn’t seem to have materialised. I’ve seen clips from the march where a diverse mix of people have marched, not just football hooligan types.

Had to Google it but I agree.

I think there's a degree of masochism as well. In both men and women.

How else do you explain the fact that, for want for a better term, native British men get a difficult time from these types for actions of much, much less seriousness while undocumented men of let's just say cultures who commit far, far more serious crimes against women are welcomed.

Personally I've no issue with sending any undocumented man who hails from a culture that has a terrible track record towards women back to where he came from.

The argument that native British men also commit crimedoesn't wash with me. So what? If you've got water pissing through the bedroom roof you don't knock a hole in the kitchen roof, too.

Women and children from that culture are of course very welcome.

Whilst I agree with the principle of deporting to his home country any immigrant who commits a serious (actually, even minor ones too, anything worse than a speeding ticket) crime on UK soil, there is a minor issue: where do you send him back to when he is undocumented and so his home country is unknown?

Women and children from places like Afghanistan should get refugee status.

Oh I was just pointing out that being called a wanker isn’t half as bad as a group calling for the death of Jews but never mind

I've marched for Palestine. There were zero chants about death to the IDF.

Still trying to work out why British people believe they’re not being put first.

They overwhelmingly are. What do they want ?

A simple DNA will pretty much pinpoint their homeland or is it against EHRC to do a cheek swab

See if you want to have a pop at me. I suggest you don't bother. Scotland gives financially to the to the Uk government and for the record.

I don't despise English people. My great grandparents were from Northumberland and came up here to work in the steelworks. My mum has an English maiden name. My dad's family were from northern Ireland. My gran had Welsh relatives. I used to live in Newcastle. Why would I if I hate people from England?

If you think that all Scottish people hate English people then I really feel sorry for you.

The fact that you've made a dig at me suggesting that pise English people just because I pointed out some of the good things the Snp do is completely offensive

And if we are "subsidised" so much then why are the union so desperate to hold onto Scotland?

What a horrible personal uncalled for post. I wouldn't exist if not for English people that I'm supposed to despise

People are so scared of being called racist that they don't want to call out behaviour in brown men that they would call for jail time over if white men did it. Which is itself a form of racism, because they are treating different sets of men differently based on race.

The sexual violence problem is men's behaviour, regardless of race, and the police should go after all sex offenders.

I marched in Glasgow. I'm Scottish. There was no hate at any march I attended. Hth

SpryTaupeTurtle · 17/05/2026 22:01

Anyway I'm out. It's been a weekend of being name called on these boards for no reason. It's completely tiresome

EmeraldRoulette · 16/05/2026 21:01

@Lonelycrab what do you mean "as bad as last time"?

Last time the police said there were approximately 100,000 in attendance

23 arrests
One of whom was a counterprotester

Apparently, pro Palestine protests average about 400 arrests at the moment

Notting Hill carnival was about 500 last time and that passed off peacefully, in official terms.

I know posters are getting Reform and Restore in a muddle and the protest has nothing to do with them anyway!

Liar.
"The Metropolitan Police said 20 people arrested were linked with the Unite the Kingdom protest, backed by Tommy Robinson, while 12 were associated with a pro-Palestine Nakba Day march."

With respect no one asked you to comment. I have Palestinian friends. Asylum seekers. Hope that gets you frothing too because you're the person running around here laughing at people who vote Labour and asking people to make 1k bets just to rub your own ego. I'm 57. I've marched for lots of things in my life. I also used to be an Snp activist and I'm on disability benefits

(hopefully there's enough in this post to annoy you). Notice you didn't bother responding to my post earlier when you were bragging about wanting to put a 1k bet on when some people have no money

Kelticgold · 17/05/2026 10:48

So you are suggesting that the men participating in yesterday’s march are as bad as those undocumented men they protest about.
And then you make it sound like the issue here is the reaction from some British women?

Oh, good spot. I had overlooked that display of the First Rule of Misogyny.

Women (in this instance, white ones) are not responsible for what men (in this instance, brown ones) do.

The Banking and Financial Dealings Act was 1971. E Heath.

Ah, yes! I am mixing it up with May Day, which became a holiday sometime in the 70s. There is no logical reason why Whitsun should have been removed - Easter and Christmas remaining of the 3 great festivals of the Christian year - except convenience. A whole culture was destroyed by fixing what had been Whitsun as the last Monday in May - but Heath was no friend to the working classes and the culture of the UK either.
There have always been moves to 'fix' Easter (even though we know the date for the next thousand years) but this plan seems to founder on the commercial aspect of Easter which is the chocolate industries' biggest sale of the year (Christmas is more diverse in its purchases).

No, not according to their manifesto. Nice try though. You know very well that Labour don't have control of our borders. When there are no small boat crossings and we no longer have to pay millions to the French every year that is when we will have control.

What is your plan for achieving that outcome, other than rejoining the EU? Details please, ideally costed.

The Nakba march was not cited, just an average of 400 per Palestinian protest. I don't know whether that is true, but it is not true that the post said 400 at the Nakba march.
20 isn't many nor is 12. A peaceful day.

SpryTaupeTurtle · 17/05/2026 22:23

There were around 2000 people who marched for Palestine in 2022 in Glasgow. My mum did too. I'm also not the biggest fan of Corbyns stance on Scottish Independence but I cheered very loudly when he got re elected as an independent. I think he would have made a much better PM than Starmer

I also campaigned for Scottish independence too. Stop press. We can all have our own political beliefs without being hung out to dry for on mumsnet

There are parties I would never vote for but I respect the right of people who vote for who they want to - that's democracy or what's left of it

Does it really matter whether I march for Palestine or Tommeh - I'd rather drop dead than march for Robinson

I thought the Barnet formula was a net transfer of extra money to Scotland - tax base is too small?

You think? Maybe do some research on how much Scotland gives and how much we get in return. There are reasons why Scotland wanted the indy ref

That was Gillian Duffy who said in a conversation with Gordon Brown, "You can't say anything about the immigrants because you're saying that you're … but all these eastern European what are coming in, where are they flocking from?"

Gordon Brown later phoned her up to apologise for his remarks.

Edited

all these eastern European what are coming in, where are they flocking from?"

The answer is in her own question: they're coming from eastern Europe. Not a very sharp knife, that one. I would have respected Brown a lot more if he'd held his ground when his remarks to his aide were leaked.

Never mind. Your ‘mix up’ let you erroneously claim some sort of Labour plan to remove the connection between bank holidays and religion. (They did it with Whit. They wanted to do it with Easter). I’m sure that’s just the sort of simple mistake that anyone could make.

SpryTaupeTurtle · 17/05/2026 22:39

Is there a reason why people can't have different political opinions without people running around calling them liars or looking down their nose because I have marched for Palestine. What difference does that make to anyone on here. You think I wouldn't march for them when I had an asylum seeker friend who was eventually given leave to stay and was so scared he fled to Ireland because he was scared it would be revoked and he would be sent back. He was warned that he would be shot on sight if he was sent home

I've seen some of these peoples back stories.

Nah sorry. Two nasty cheap digs is two too many

SpryTaupeTurtle · 17/05/2026 22:40

I was told yesterday on another thread that I was a lazy scrounger for having smashed my leg to pieces and having to have had surgery. It's the same thing. No matter what you do or believe in there's always someone lining up to take cheap shots at you
