Madeleine McCann trial - why no DNA test?

Why haven’t all parties agreed to a proper and official and binding DNA test?

Is Kate McCann rejecting the chance of Julia Wandelt being Madeleine based only on the basis of her saying “I think I’d recognise Madeleine”?

I think because then every nutter would come out the woodwork requesting dna. Where does it end?

As PP said…the McCanns would go to the lab for a DNA test every second day. There’s the nutters, and then on top those who are after their 15 min of fame.

No they wouldn’t, dna doesn’t change so they’d only need to provide a sample once to be kept on file and then compared against all the ‘Maybe’s’.

Because that woman is not Madeleine.

They said in the news report on tv that there was scientific evidence that she wasn't Madeleine so presumably zero need for a DNA test on top of that.

Plus the girl accused of stalking them claiming to be Madeleine doesn't appear to have the eye thing in the same place as Madeleine so that would rule her out instantly I'd have thought. That's not something that can be changed or moved.

The photo on Sky news shows an eye thing but perhaps it doesn’t match.

I can’t see anything on the Sky news coverage that says conclusively that it has been proven beyond reasonable doubt that this woman is not Madeleine and I’d have thought that was the no.1 thing to determine.

Does Julia truly believe she is!? I wonder.

She also believed she was a missing German child. She is not well.

She's mentally unstable - she thinks she is more than one missing child. It would be much worse to give credence to her delusion by feeding it with an expensive scientific test, and even then she is absolutely the type of personality (from what we have been able to glean so far) who would contest it for some fanciful reason. Besides we know who are parents are Dorota Wandelt-Cholewinski (mother) and Piotr Cholewinski (stepfather) - or are they both lying? Unlikely.

Why would you not do it to shut the whole thing down though?! You can’t argue with DNA.

I don't understand this either OP. The McCanns must already have given samples of DNA so they don't even need to do that again or meet her. If I had lost someone close to me in those circumstances I would definitely want a test. The fact that she speaks with a Polish accent doesn't really mean anything as Madeline was only 3 when she went missing; plus her parent/step-parents are hardly likely to not lie if the girl is correct. Mrs McCann saying ""I know I can't say what Madeleine looks like now, but I know I'd recognise her" seems really strange to me - I would doubt myself and want science to give a conclusive answer.

she is a deeply unwell person with a history of trolling and doing weird things online. They know she’s not Madeline McCann, they shouldn’t have to jump through more hoops to appease the deeply unwell individual stalking them.

I’m keeping half an eye on the Sky news live coverage of this and would have thought the main bulletins at the top would want to include something like “scientific evidence has conclusively shown that Julia Wandelt is NOT the child of Kate and Gerry McCann” just so viewers like me don’t wonder if she possibly possibly (possibly!) could be.

Given the situation is at the point of a court case I'd say it's fair to say the McCann's know she's not Madeleine.

That they haven't done a specific DNA test at her request doesn't mean it wasn't looked into. I assume the scientific evidence mentioned was either the eye thing or something like a blood group that means a DNA test just isn't necessary.

Why should they have to humour this crazy woman who has also pretended to be another missing child?

Even easily dated photos from when she was very young would rule her out as she's not the same age as Madeleine

I also wonder if there was a DNA test done with her parents previously with this not being the first time she claimed to be a missing child. That would just draw an instant line under it without any need for the McCanns, or any other parents, to engage with her at all.

Exactly, plus let's not get the purpose of this court case confused - it is about someone accused of stalking, whether they say that they are Madeline McCann or the Queen of Sheba. They have indulged in deeply upsetting and harassing behaviour for a significant period of time. Sure it's fine to raise the question of DNA in the course of the proceedings, but this is about someone's criminal behaviour. If I thought I was someone else's daughter it still wouldn't give me the right to break the law.

As a starting point she and her Polish mother could do the decent thing and have a DNA test.

She already did a DNA test on Dr Phil which showed her ancestry with Polish and 100% Eastern European. Madeleine would be British/Irish.

Would you have a DNA test if the child you distinctly remember squeezing out of your vagina denied it?
I am not sure I would, I would reckon that if they’re in that deep a state of denial about all the other evidence they are likely not going to believe the test either.
