Absolutely horrendous. I’m surprised it hasn’t happened before now though. So much hatred directed towards people who don’t deserve it. Always the way. Pick the easy targets.

I am Jewish and the only people in my life who know this are my husband, our children and a very few Jewish friends. I never speak of it, or reference it, and even my closest friend I have here in the UK does not know I am Jewish.

That's the reality of a great many of Jews nowadays. You hide it. Anti-semitism has always been there, but in the past 2 years all the anti-semites have come crawling out from under their rocks.

I am due to attend a private breaking of the fast tonight with a few other friends in our very small rural Jewish community. Two of whom are from the Manchester community originally. It's heart-breaking.

At work no one knows I'm Jewish. I keep kosher (In that I only eat kosher meat) so when we go out as a group or when I'm travelling with colleagues I say I'm vegetarian. I've tied myself in knots when people ask me how long I've been vegetarian and why I started. But I don't feel safe telling people I'm Jewish.

But people seemingly don’t have the right to protest with English flags against what’s happening to this country because they are racist thugs, right??

ABSOLUTELY!! Wave the flag of your own country = racist thug, wave the flag of a nation ran by a terrorist cell that slaughtered and raped 1000 civilians = humanitarian

ShamedAndsincere · 02/10/2025 13:11

I really do wish people would stop fucking turning the UK into a cesspit of terror because of wars going on miles and miles away.

How they can correlate hurting eachother, we are all English, no matter what religion, colour or creed, with a bloody war abroad I don’t know.

Oh come on - countless examples of extensive antisemitism on these “peace marches” and it is churlish to claim otherwise. I wish we had banned them like France.

And yet France has been one of the first countries to openly criticize the Israeli government and recognize the state of Palestine. Maybe people in the UK wouldn't feel the need to march if our country took action against Israel.

reginaldronnierara · 02/10/2025 13:11

Hospitals in the area have been placed on lockdown. What does this mean, and what are the possible reasons behind it?

Nestingbirds · 02/10/2025 13:12

kerstina · 02/10/2025 13:02

Not true. I don’t believe people who stood up for a Palestine were anti Semitic they were protesting against the Israeli governments actions in Gaza. These people who take other peoples lives like these Jewish people and Charlie Kirk are mentally ill and evil, don’t put peaceful protesters in the same bracket please.

You have to accept you are in fact giving some a green light to attack Jewish people. Your peaceful protest sounded a lot like hate speech to me. If you waving a flag next to someone wishing to cause grave harm to other minorities - at best you are enabling, at worst you are fully supporting their position.

There is no such thing as peaceful protest at the moment. It’s long gone. It is just stoking up more division.

Stop protesting, stop legitimising racist hatred with your middle class privilege. Think of the harm, anguish and pain you are causing.

Israel were subjected to the most barbaric atrocity by Hamas, let’s not forget how this started (this time around) I for one feel appalled at all of it - including the loss of life in Gaza, but we are not helping pouring petrol on the fire here.

I was wondering the same.

Precaution based on suspected alleged terror attempt

I'm sorry it's like this. It shouldn't be.

I await the irony of the Palestine marchers now saying we must’ve blame Muslims for the actions of 1 person. Which of course is correct, but never afforded to Jews.

We don’t know the evil killers race or religion yet. There are lots of men who dress and have their hair and beard like that.

We have to see.

We may never know because KS will be spending all afternoon trying to cover it up because he’s more interested in protecting his ideology than dead children and Jews.

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 02/10/2025 13:13

MookieCat · 02/10/2025 13:08

Yes this is true. I am not surprised at all. No Jew is. We are out there seeing and feeling the hatred here. Yet if you talk about it on MN (for example) we get told we are talking shit or 'misunderstanding' . You only have to dip into the pure venom that drips largely unchecked in the CITME threads.

This non- Jewish mumsnetter absolutely believes what you and members of the Jewish community has been saying. I’ve been horrified at the apparent legitimising of anti semitism in both the MSM and SM. I’m truly sorry for what the Jewish community is experiencing and horrified that so many are taken in by those denying it. My thoughts are with the Jewish community -please know you have love and support out there too

hereismydog · 02/10/2025 13:13

It’s horrific. Simply wanting to see peace in the Middle East and murdering innocent people (on the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, no less) are fucking poles apart. I would like to see an end to the conflict, but that doesn’t mean I harbour any resentment or hatred towards random Jews. All that has happened today is that people were murdered whilst going about their business, and for what?

I saw the videos on X, and I’m heartbroken that that poor man died alone on the pavement with people filming him like some kind of macabre soap opera as they were too busy waiting to watch the police shoot the attacker. No comfort and no care from anybody at all.

Sickening. My thoughts are with the community, and with any Jews reading this.

Because there might be another attack? How terrifying

Livelovebehappy · 02/10/2025 13:13

Let's hope and pray that one good thing to come out of this is that the Palestinian marches allowed to take part in London every weekend are now at the very least reduced. They cause intimidation and division and have partly contributed to what has happened today.

Uggbootsforever · 02/10/2025 13:14

Busybeemumm · 02/10/2025 13:11

Yet I’m guessing you judge us ‘taking action’ in the Middle East after 9/11, and wonder why we can’t just stay out of other countries’ affairs?

CoffeeLipstickKeys · 02/10/2025 13:14

On Yom Kippur, Brutal and so very sad and scary for those involved and the community. Commend police and paramedics for swift response.

VaxMerstappen · 02/10/2025 13:14

Shame on that muppet at Glastonbury and all the other sanctimonious, social media characters whose words and actions no doubt embolden things like this.

Mustbethat · 02/10/2025 13:14

Unfinishedkitchn · 02/10/2025 13:05

It's not an easy job for the police in highly charged situations like this but I think they handled it as best as they could under the circumstances.

Yep. This officers will now be in separate incident rooms as part of a post incident investigation. Interviews, statements, questions, reviews of their body cams.

all while exhausted and emotional from the adrenaline crash and having to do what no armed officer actually ever wants to do. Make the decision to shoot.

don’t get me wrong, it’s absolutely necessary and needs to be done to ensure the police do act correctly when someone is injured by them.

the public weighing in with their uninformed opinions does not help though.

these events are horrific. The families, the members of the synagogue, the Jewish community, the police, paramedics, coroners, the knock on is huge. Even as far as Muslims who abhor violence and will also be horrified now fearing retribution.

Do we know that it's a Muslim or just automatically assumed?

But people seemingly don’t have the right to protest with English flags against what’s happening to this country because they are racist thugs, right??

I don't think I mentioned anything about marching with English flags!! Of course people can and should march against any English government policy they don't agree with and don't support.

PurpleThistle7 · 02/10/2025 13:14

This will happen again. All the wrong people feel empowered right now and it makes me so sad.

We are not going to ‘take action’ against a country defending itself.

bookworm14 · 02/10/2025 13:15

I well remember, just after the Hamas attack, seeing footage of people both here and in Gaza, openly celebrating the attack by Hamas.

I saw it with my own eyes, in north west London, on the morning of 8th October 2023. No doubt those people will be celebrating this new attack as well.

freshpyjamas · 02/10/2025 13:15

ilod · 02/10/2025 12:30

antisemitism has been allowed by our very own prime minster, those awful marches in London where the “free palestine” “queers for palestine” crowd don’t even bother to disguise their hate of Jews. There will be more attacks in future because, as David Baddiel said, Jews don’t count.

This.
