Absolutely shocking attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Crumpsall North Manchester. My heart goes out to all those hurt and affected by this terrible atrocity.

I'm really quite angry about this, I don't understand it, people just going about their lives targeted because of what they believe in. Why?

Lifesd · 02/10/2025 13:01

Busybeemumm · 02/10/2025 12:49

anti-Semitic marches.

The attack this morning on the synagogue is absolutely deplorable.

Please don't conflate antisemitism and politics. People have the absolute right to march against the genocide happening before our eyes in Gaza by Israel policies and the UK government being complicit. This is not antisemitism.

Oh come on - countless examples of extensive antisemitism on these “peace marches” and it is churlish to claim otherwise. I wish we had banned them like France.

Blood on Starmer’s hands along with everyone who participated in or supported the anti-Semitic marches.

Labour have perpetuated a climate of hate against Jewish people. It’s disgusting.

Not true. I don’t believe people who stood up for a Palestine were anti Semitic they were protesting against the Israeli governments actions in Gaza. These people who take other peoples lives like these Jewish people and Charlie Kirk are mentally ill and evil, don’t put peaceful protesters in the same bracket please.

Uggbootsforever · 02/10/2025 13:02

Reprehensible snake Corbyn has posted nothing I see, just another self pitying post on behalf of the ‘flotilla’

I assume people aren't helping the poor man on the floor because henis clearly dead already and they know this :(

I'm sure before the footage started someone went over to him to help and saw he was already gone so they are focusing on the man with the bomb vest!

Maybe but they were also clearly instructed by the police to leave the scene and they didn’t. Instead, they stayed, filming, jeering, swearing. Of course, that’s not the main story here. The focus should be on the act of terrorism and the antisemitism behind it. But I can’t help feeling deeply disturbed by the behaviour of the bystanders. They were more interested in gaping and swearing and getting their footage than getting out of the way to make the work of police easier or to even protect themselves form a potential bomb or helping the victims.

Deeply sorry for the victims and their families. It feels like we live in pretty glum times.

Uricon2 · 02/10/2025 13:02

There seems an inability (I think deliberate unwillingness) amongst some to acknowledge that Jewish Brits have as much control over Netanyahu and the Israeli government as Brits who are not Jewish, ie, none. It feeds on and promotes an evil centuries older than the current state of Israel, antisemitism.

My thoughts are with those affected by todays atrocity in Manchester.

Is anything known about the attacker? Was he acting alone? Did he have a bomb?

He was wearing a suicide belt apparently which may or may have been real. It's being examined by the bomb squad.

Do you not believe the Unite the Kingdom were stirring up hatred against Muslims as well? Just marching because they object to immigration policy? Or is that special and different?

Fair enough - it's the problem with fast moving online news and media.

I am not often shocked but the video was utterly disturbing, and don't be mistaken I am not talking about the terrorist who has thankfully been put out of his misery.

The security people / police shouted at pedestrians to move away as there is a bomb and no-one moved, they all stayed and gaped and filmed.

If they weren't afraid of a bomb, they should have helped the poor man drying on the pavement. Instead they jeered and made the situation worse.

This. Clearly it was very early and cordons etc hadn’t been set up, and likely there was a stand off station set up for ambulance crew and other personnel as it would not have been safe for them to approach until the suspect was neutralised.

but if you voluntarily want to put yourself at risk standing there filming or watching, give first aid/comfort at least.

also all the on line comments criticising the police and their actions. Should have shot him sooner, they would have done this, or that.

the only positive about the online video is hopefully the world can see those officers acted absolutely as best they could in the situation to keep the public safe, and the investigation into the shooting will be short.

On Yom Kippur, an important and solemn day for the community.
Our Jewish brothers and sisters should be able to worship and congregate in peace🌹

It's not an easy job for the police in highly charged situations like this but I think they handled it as best as they could under the circumstances.

What’ll it be Kier? Blame it on MH issues or direct attention away to anyone who gets angry about this and round them up and put them through the courts quickly?

Or, will it be another case of this person is on 7 watchlists and they knew about him but didn’t do anything about it?

Keir has promised to keep the Jewish community safe……..one week after rewarding Hamas, and when he knew that Trump was just about to do a peace deal.

Not one Jew is surprised. When an entire people is systematically vilified and lied about then this is the consequence.

Edited

I await the irony of the Palestine marchers now saying we must’ve blame Muslims for the actions of 1 person. Which of course is correct, but never afforded to Jews.

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 02/10/2025 13:06

Jew-hate has become completely condoned in the UK in 2025. It’s a disgrace.

So the hundreds of people on a hate march in Leeds who apauded Dr Aladwan when she implored people to hold the Jewish community accountable and to take up armed resistance against Jewish schools and synagogues aren't antisemitic?

Or the many other marches where there's been hate speech?

If you didn't agree with it you wouldn't go on the marches and you'd show your support for Palestinians in another, less hateful and murderous, way

I assumed the poor man on the ground was dead? I can’t believe no one would help him if he wasn’t 😢

The man who was stabbed is a security guard hired by the synagogue to protect the people inside. Every single synagogue and Jewish establishment (including schools) have a security guard. But apparently it’s the Jews who are the dangerous aggressors etc etc.

BlueSeagull · 02/10/2025 13:08

I am Jewish and the only people in my life who know this are my husband, our children and a very few Jewish friends. I never speak of it, or reference it, and even my closest friend I have here in the UK does not know I am Jewish.

That's the reality of a great many of Jews nowadays. You hide it. Anti-semitism has always been there, but in the past 2 years all the anti-semites have come crawling out from under their rocks.

I am due to attend a private breaking of the fast tonight with a few other friends in our very small rural Jewish community. Two of whom are from the Manchester community originally. It's heart-breaking.

my thoughts are with you all and anyone else directly affected by this

Yes this is true. I am not surprised at all. No Jew is. We are out there seeing and feeling the hatred here. Yet if you talk about it on MN (for example) we get told we are talking shit or 'misunderstanding' . You only have to dip into the pure venom that drips largely unchecked in the CITME threads.

But people seemingly don’t have the right to protest with English flags against what’s happening to this country because they are racist thugs, right??

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 02/10/2025 13:09

This is absolutely horrendous, I pray for everyone affected.

Unfortunately it was only a matter of time before something like this happened with the anti semitism whipped up by the BBC and social media, not even counting the useful idiots waving terrorist flags shouting from the river to the sea. This is precisely what you have been encouraging by legitimising anti semitism in the minds of the hard of thinking

Beachtastic · 02/10/2025 13:09

Heartfelt condolences to the victims and their families and friends.

I'm not Jewish, but this is what I've feared ever since 7 Oct 2023, when I turned to the MN forum expecting compassion for the most shocking genocidal terrorist attack in living memory. Instead, to my horror, the Conflict in the Middle East forum was dominated for some time by gloating threads celebrating what had happened and denying the atrocities. (These seem to have been deleted retrospectively, but the damage was done.)

On 7 Oct 2023, as the attacks in Israel were still unfolding, the Palestine Solidarity Campaign arranged its first march in London for the following weekend and had everyone chanting "From the river to the sea." Their DARVO tactic was to present it all as a brave freedom protest (as though Hamas's idea of freedom even remotely aligns with any Western concept of it!), and they have successfully controlled the narrative ever since by ensuring that the finger of blame is firmly pointed at Israel and not them.

It has become wildly fashionable to wave Palestinian flags, call for "death to the IDF" from the stage of Glastonbury, protest in support of Palestine Action (whose co-founder spoke in praise of Hamas on 8 Oct 2023), and fan the flames of Hamas propaganda on social media.

How bitterly ironic that those doing so seem to think they are fighting "fascism" instead of actively lending their support to its meteoric rise over the past couple of years. This intense vilification of Israel and the Jewish people is serving a very specific purpose, and I wish people were not so blind to it.

I agree with this but my word,I wish he could have been covered to afford him some dignity in his passing. I lived in this area for many years and used to pass this Synagogue on the way to work and this has absolutely horrified and sickened me. My heart is broken for the wonderful Jewish community who have lived and worked and contributed to this area for many, many years. They must be terrified.
