Absolutely shocking attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Crumpsall North Manchester. My heart goes out to all those hurt and affected by this terrible atrocity.

Is there a particular reason they feel intimidated? Was there any particular behaviour they have witnessed? My son live in Leeds, hence why I am often there.

I’m going to go way out here, but thousands of people waving a flag of a pgroup whose stated aim is to wipe out your people would perhaps intimidate anyone.

Huh?

KenAdams · 02/10/2025 14:20

The Jewish man speaking on BBC News now is so articulate about his experiences. Nobody should have to put up with this treatment or owe answers to anyone else in their own country.

We stand with you on this terrible day (on what is such an important day for your faith) x

Hamiltonfan · 02/10/2025 14:04

Unfortunately this is what happens when you reward terrorists with their own state. Terrorists who have openly called for a globalisation to the intifada. When you allow anti-Semitic marches every weekend in the capital city, you open the gates to this.

Sadly, yes, Hamiltonfan

I'm generally in favour of people being allowed to protest peacefully, but while that's doubtless the intent of some who attend it's become clear that these marches contain too much that's anything but peaceful, so while my instinct's usually against "banning things" I honestly think they should be stopped

It wouldn't prevent some whipping up theirs and others' hatred online, but at least it would remove one flashpoint, and the way this is going suggests that may be worthwhile

Donate to the CST is a good way if you want.

Thanks. It looks like they do good work, but I'm appalled that there's a need for this organisation.

I find it incredible that a number of posters on here wont even stop and think about whether the marches and the narrative has emboldened and contributed to acts like this but also the other attacks and risks that Jewish people in the UK are subject to

But instead continue to chunter on about peaceful protest. Next they'll be talking about the religon of peace and all that

I have a lot of criticism of the Israeli government, not just now but over the decades Ive been old enough to understand it 35 plus years. Im not even sure I say Im a Zionist as such but respect that its not an outlandish or extreme belief at all and Jewihs people as with all people have the right to self determination.

But I in no way support Islamic extremist regimes, governments, terrorism and therefore no I dont support Palestine if it means Israel not being able to defend itself. It has enemies on all sides, how do people think Israel should have responded?

YellowDaze · 02/10/2025 14:22

My thoughts and condolences are with our Jewish community today. I stand by you. I have fought back against the anti semitism which is rampant on the citme boards ( under different username). I'm sorry it's not enough. My heart breaks.

LoveItaly · 02/10/2025 14:22

TonTonMacoute · 02/10/2025 12:17

Point scoring!?

The authorities have allowed openly anti-Semitic marches to take place regularly on our streets for months and months.

It would be highly irresponsible not to have realised that this appalling attack might be the result. There is nothing political about that

For some people there is never a correct time to state an unpalatable truth.

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 02/10/2025 14:23

Gloriia · 02/10/2025 14:14

It's horrible isn't it. Shouting instructions to armed police, treating the whole thing like it's a spectator event. Wtf is wrong with those bystanders?

Because again and again we have seen people and the media whipping up hate towards the police so they are no longer respected.

PrizedPickledPopcorn · 02/10/2025 14:23

Do you think watching video footage of these crimes contributes to bystander syndrome?

It seems to me that people’s bodies, in shock, default to viewing these scenes rather than engaging with and reacting to it.

I can’t imagine choosing to watch videos of crimes, the suffering and death of people.

This breaks my heart. I am an atheist but that a person cannot, in this country, in this century, worship peacefully without being attacked is horrendous.

I do not pretend to understand anti-semitism; that this could happen here, today terrifies me. What have we become?

We are living in a country divided by hatred.

Well yes. But that is sadly nothing new.

Not new, but sadly rapidly increasing, fuelled by politicians, the media and so much misinformation.

Heartbreaking murder of innocent worshippers today. It’s devastating that a day of celebration turned into such tragedy.

I also find it quite depressing to see so many partisan comments in this thread. It is possible to feel empathy for the Jewish victims of this terrible act of violence and the Palestinians suffering in Gaza. I would think that should be the norm for most people. All lives have value whatever the religion, nationality or skin colour.

God forbid one forgets to be excruciating balanced and non-partisan to jews on a day they get murdered outside their house of worship.

This guy here in the yellow hat - just what?! I'm assuming armed police arrived to clear the area and that two officers weren't left to deal with this alone?

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/cx2703lnww4t

That guy is clearly confused which makes him at real risk here of getting in the way and being caught up.

That women with him needed to have DRAGGED HIM AWAY. It looked like he thought he was looking into a playground where kids play at play time.

I have also seen BBC photos with people in the area sitting on chairs and deck chairs. WTF??

They’re really good, and do a lot of work, both online and in person stuff. It’s equal parts both impressive in terms of what they do and the sheer amount they do with their resources and incredibly depressing.

(I have nothing to do with them for clarity, beyond being a Jew who donates)

No one can ever answer the question “how should Israel have responded” if France had invaded Glastonbury, killed, raped and tortured over a thousand, taken hostage hundreds abs had a long standing goal to wipe out Britain because they had conquered it once - how would British people have liked the UK government to respond?

Right wing people are to blame when a likely Muslim murders Jews? Ohhhhh no you don’t

I knew it wouldn’t be long before someone tried to blame right wing (and white people). I think the time has come when that just won’t wash anymore).

It is really shocking that no one is there forcing them back but I guess the other units or whatever didn't have time to get there yet. Wee day out for some folk.

Let's not forget after labour calling everyone racist this week they are the only party next to the BNP to be investigated for racism!! And how ironic that Nick Griffin the former leader of the BNP is now in cahoots with the islamists because of their hatred of Jews, oh how the far left and far right like to meet for a tea party!

He didn't call anyone racist. He called out racist policies. There is a huge difference. In fact, he said the opposite.
‘he did not think Reform UK supporters were racist’

Misinformation which just spins. Dangerous.

Sir Keir Starmer has labelled Reform UK's policy of scrapping indefinite leave to remain as "racist" and "immoral".

Sir Keir added he did not think Reform UK supporters were racist but "frustrated" after 14 years of "Tory failure".

Sir Keir Starmer speaking to the BBC. He is wearing a black suit, with a white shirt and blue patterned tie. He is also wearing dark glasses and gesturing with his hand.

Keir Starmer calls Reform migrant policy 'racist' and 'immoral'

The prime minister told the BBC he needed "space" to make good on the promises he made at last year's general election.

Quite. If every village church needed a security guard something would have been done a long time ago.

In terms of what to do in support, I wish I knew. I’ll donate to the CST and I’ve messaged the friends I know who are Jewish to say I hope they’re OK. I don’t know what else I can do 😐

I'll try and explain, have you watched the full length video showing the pathetic bystander letting a man bleed to death in front of him? Shouting cursing jeering while people were dying around him. He was told to leave immediately as there was a bomb yet he stayed and cursed and jeered. Putting his own life or health at risk and adding to the burden of the desperate situation. But he was also actively shouting at the police to either kill or not kill the guy, it wasn't possible to hear exactly what he suggested. This was in a situation where people's lives were at risk including the security team's. All this while a couple of steps in front of him an elderly man died a painful death. Oh yes I hate them ALMOST as much as the terrorist.

Although the bystander announced several times that the poor man in the pool of blood was already dead.

Who on earth was that old man in the middle of all of this looking as though he really didnt know what was going on. I saw a women trying to gently move him away and still he wanted to stay.

The old man looked Southeast Asian to me - perhaps he didn't speak English.
