Absolutely shocking attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Crumpsall North Manchester. My heart goes out to all those hurt and affected by this terrible atrocity.

Interested how this Islamophobia bill will progress. Arrests all round if you criticised today’s terrorist.

@reginaldronnierara you hate innocent bystanders almost a much as an antisemitic terrorist? Really? You can't see how crass that is?

No

soupyspoon · 02/10/2025 13:57

I wonder if he was being monitored under prevent. They'll need to look into whether this was predicted and whether it could have been stopped

I remember commentary on the radio a while back saying they’re ’surprised there haven’t been more terror attacks in the wake of Gaza’

surprised there haven’t been more terror attacks

hollyblueivy · 02/10/2025 14:01

It’s awful and very sad. Why on earth would someone do something so senseless.

PropertyD · 02/10/2025 14:01

Who on earth was that old man in the middle of all of this looking as though he really didnt know what was going on. I saw a women trying to gently move him away and still he wanted to stay. Without stating the obvious. If that was my Dad I would have dragged him away. Not tried to gently persuade him! If he had got caught up in all of this there would be hell to pay. The police did a great job in shooting this manic dead.

We have failed with diversity and tolerance.

YourBrickTiger · 02/10/2025 14:03

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 02/10/2025 13:23

Yep, they might also now be off work for a while reducing their income. Not that this should matter but it will affect them so we need to be so so grateful for the officers who put themselves in this position to keep people safe.

The BBC will probably send in a journalist undercover to win their trust, get them drunk and run a grossly biased programme on this stating how badly the knife attacker was treated.

I really hope that if any good comes out of those is that the people waving Palestinian flags realises they’re waving the flag of a group who have not only done this to thousands already but would happily do it to millions more.

Do you feel that way about Sarah Everard's killer? Like it or not, there is a HUGE amount of mysogyny in the Met Police. So what if they are caught from an undercover programme? Would you rather they stayed shielded??

BluebellShmoobell · 02/10/2025 14:03

The people that march on a Saturday defending the palestian cause, covering women, hating gays these are the REAL far right!!

Unfortunately this is what happens when you reward terrorists with their own state. Terrorists who have openly called for a globalisation to the intifada. When you allow anti-Semitic marches every weekend in the capital city, you open the gates to this.

MyHeartyCoralSnail · 02/10/2025 14:04

Busybeemumm · 02/10/2025 13:55

I agree with this. It doesn't have to all or nothing as all can be true at once.

But recognising the state of Palestine is rewarding terrorism at this time. The October 7 attacks and subsequent stirring up by long standing pro Palestinian media were designed to provoke Israel - I still haven’t seen anyone offer an alternative as to how Israel should have responded - only, they shouldn’t have done this, that or the other. One can be upset about people dying but also understand that this was orchestrated by a terrorist group whose ideology and goals are now being championed on the streets of our cities, in our media and in our government. This normalisation of anti semitism has led to today’s attacks. If you’ve gone on a march waving a Palestinian flag, if you haven’t challenged anyone there saying from the river to the sea you have played a part in anti semitism

RisingSunn · 02/10/2025 14:04

It's so horrible.

As an aside - I was really annoyed by the standers-by not clearing the immediate area, when the police demanded them to - even when told he had a bomb! It just makes an awful scenario even more difficult to manage.

This is horrific. My thoughts are with those who have lost loved ones. I suspect this is politically motivated. I wish people would realise that not all Jewish people are zionists. Pray for peace. This barbarism doesn’t belong on our streets.

soupyspoon · 02/10/2025 14:05

StarlightRobot · 02/10/2025 13:58

@soupyspoon

I think it’s when you can identify that arguments do not make sense that the underlying bigotry is revealed. It doesn’t make sense on one hand to indicate support for liberal values, and on the other hand support terrorist movements. The argument doesn’t make sense because they are really drawing on some hidden ideology, and it could be that the true motivation is an underlying antisemitism.

Oh I know I was just exclaiming about it. Its very much their ideology and they dont like being held account to it.

@reginaldronnierara you hate innocent bystanders almost a much as an antisemitic terrorist? Really? You can't see how crass that is?

I'll try and explain, have you watched the full length video showing the pathetic bystander letting a man bleed to death in front of him? Shouting cursing jeering while people were dying around him. He was told to leave immediately as there was a bomb yet he stayed and cursed and jeered. Putting his own life or health at risk and adding to the burden of the desperate situation. But he was also actively shouting at the police to either kill or not kill the guy, it wasn't possible to hear exactly what he suggested. This was in a situation where people's lives were at risk including the security team's. All this while a couple of steps in front of him an elderly man died a painful death. Oh yes I hate them ALMOST as much as the terrorist.

Do you know what Zionist actually means? It means agreeing that Jewish people should have a homeland. Is that terrible?

Uggbootsforever · 02/10/2025 13:47

He recognised Palestine as a state a matter of days ago and this happens 😖 he’s toast

which was a ridiculous pointless performative act of solidarity towards a terrorist state.

Alideascope · 02/10/2025 14:06

OnlyMabelInTheBuilding · 02/10/2025 13:40

Encouraging it, how?

Antisemitism is a left-wing issue and always has been.

You think the right isn't anti-semitic? It's not an either-or situation, you know.

YourBrickTiger · 02/10/2025 14:07

This morning we had a complete stand off on a major arterial route linking the city. People couldn't get to work or to hospitals. As much as I sympathise with what is happening in Gaza, I'm really not sure what a few people blocking people in rush hour traffic is going to achieve.

buffyajp · 02/10/2025 14:07

Busybeemumm · 02/10/2025 12:49

anti-Semitic marches.

The attack this morning on the synagogue is absolutely deplorable.

Please don't conflate antisemitism and politics. People have the absolute right to march against the genocide happening before our eyes in Gaza by Israel policies and the UK government being complicit. This is not antisemitism.

And please don’t tell Jewish people what they can or can’t think thank you. Stop being so bloody patronising. You’ve clearly not been affected by antisemitism so spare lectures on it.

It’s a terrorist attack, that’s the motivation. Fear.

Why should my views on a man who abused his power as an officer in the metropolitan police force affect my views on armed officers carrying out their duties in Manchester (presumably from the Great Manchester police) I trust you can tell the difference

the vast vast majority of police are good people, who put their lives in danger everytime they go on duty. Where was this view in the programme? No where!! OI totally agree bad apples need finding and got rid of, but the BBC constantly stirring hate against police generally is endangering them.

people want to know why people stood around filming the police, because they do that every day. Hoping to catch a mistake or intimidate the police.

that’s the problem. They think Zionist means the same thing as terrorist or fascist.

Oh yeah and hating jews.

MyrtleLion · 02/10/2025 14:07

I don't know if it's been mentioned, but it's also Yom Kippur, the holiest day of the year. It's awful.

Edited

Yes but surely your QUOTE TODAY is in direct relation to the programme on the officers (who are guilty of mysogyny) that was shown yesterday?
