Absolutely shocking attack at the Heaton Park Synagogue in Crumpsall North Manchester. My heart goes out to all those hurt and affected by this terrible atrocity.

Do we know that it's a Muslim or just automatically assumed?

Who else was it going to be, those pesky Sikhs? 🙄

It’s totally horrendous, but unfortunately not unexpected. The way Israelis and Jewish people in general have been vilified, especially recently, has almost made something like this inevitable.

im so sorry that Britain has come to this

Agree

Me and my children were caught up in a “peaceful” protest in London one Saturday. We encountered a burning doll of a hook nosed rabbi with people dancing around it. We heard chants like: we we are all Hamas! And a group of girls started hissing when I walked past (I have a small Star of David necklace) which I later found out was meant to be the sound of the gas chambers. My kids were terrified and I’m too short to be able to see over people so my teenage son had to lead us to safety. I felt threatened, unsafe and intimidated and eff of if you proclaim to give a shit about Palestinians. These people hate Jews. That’s all.

This is awful

I am Muslim, is it bad to say i was hoping the attacker wasn't Muslim. Most of us British Muslims do not condone such acts on our fellow brits regardless of their background.

My sincere condolences to the Jewish community x

No, it’s not bad that you wished that, but I will be honest, the vacuum where utter condemnation should be in the Muslim community when these things happen will be noted

That’s disgusting and I weep for what my country has become.

I hear you. This helps none of us from either of our communities who only want peace and to live side by side in harmony. Thank you for your post. Thanks

Time to rethink religion... it's not helping to bring us together. It divides.

It's not religion, its extremists using religion.

Jujujudo · 02/10/2025 13:28

Busybeemumm · 02/10/2025 13:11

And yet France has been one of the first countries to openly criticize the Israeli government and recognize the state of Palestine. Maybe people in the UK wouldn't feel the need to march if our country took action against Israel.

What action? Driving cars into Jews maybe?

Philipthecat · 02/10/2025 13:28

Absolutely horrific but sadly I am not surprised. Anti-Semitic is growing rapidly with the Palestine/ Israeli war and people appear unable to distinguish between everyday Jewish people and the state of Israel and what they are doing.

Uggbootsforever · 02/10/2025 13:29

Jujujudo · 02/10/2025 13:28

What action? Driving cars into Jews maybe?

The same action they very much didn’t want when we waded into other conflicts?

Homeycombed · 02/10/2025 13:30

It’s heartbreaking - they were just going to synagogue.

soupyspoon · 02/10/2025 13:31

Busybeemumm · 02/10/2025 12:49

anti-Semitic marches.

The attack this morning on the synagogue is absolutely deplorable.

Please don't conflate antisemitism and politics. People have the absolute right to march against the genocide happening before our eyes in Gaza by Israel policies and the UK government being complicit. This is not antisemitism.

No, not buying this whitewashing of the situation.

Same could be said of the people marching and protesting about immigration. Dont conflate racism with politics. People expressing that politicians need to be held to account about how our population is increasing, services and resources being used (or not being increased to manage the increase in need), etc etc

Those people are marching and protesting simply because they dont like brown people and 'foreigners'.

What you do and how you signal your views says a lot about you. You join a march shouting down Israelis and using phrases like 'from the river to the sea'. You're anti semitic, end of.

I am so sorry . That is unforgivable. Just try and keep in your mind that most people are tolerant and peaceful. For some reasons the extremes of hard right and hard left seem to attract a certain type of person. Who always think they are right.

QueenOfHiraeth · 02/10/2025 13:33

Unfortunately the anti-Israel and pro-Palestine rhetoric has emboldened the extremist idiots who now think anti-semitism is acceptable.

It is shameful that so many have stood back and allowed this to happen

Puzzledandpissedoff · 02/10/2025 13:33

I well remember, just after the Hamas attack, seeing footage of people both here and in Gaza, openly celebrating the attack by Hamas

So do I, @GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER, just as I remember celebrations after 9/11 and other atrocities - and doubtless there'll be others after this

Any normal person's heart goes out to those who suffer this kind of focused hatred, but there was no action taken against those who drove through jewwish areas yelling obscenities and threats and I don't kid myself this will change

StarlightRobot · 02/10/2025 13:33

@Uggbootsforever

I have already read about at least one muslim leader who have already spoken out against the attack and declared antisemitism in all forms as abhorrent. There will be others and their voices should be amplified. It’s important not to tar all muslims as extremists.

Muslim Council of Britain have put out a statement condemning the attack. I guess such statements are of themselves not newsworthy,

This is an horrendous attack. On a day where we should be looking to tackle division in our society, we are instead seeing more of it on here.

This is what happens when anti semitism is normalised which it has been by the Left with authorities turning a blind eye.

Abd the right encouraging it.

Right wing people are to blame when a likely Muslim murders Jews? Ohhhhh no you don’t

newusernamex1000 · 02/10/2025 13:39

This is a hate crime, and I feel like Jewish people are no longer safe in the UK.

The first I heard of it was on news posts of the media and people were still writing “free Palestine” on the bloody posts.

I’m sick of it! I’m heartbroken for these people

I'm deeply wsorry you had to experience this, Jujujudo, and unfortunately it's where deep seated antisemitism, inappropriate tolerance and rationalising this kind of hate has brought us

Sadly, though, it won't make any difference to those who try to pretend such marches are "for peace", and I'm only waiting for one of them to insist you're making it up

Busybeemumm · 02/10/2025 13:39

Nestingbirds · 02/10/2025 13:14

We are not going to ‘take action’ against a country defending itself.

But Israel is not defending itself. It's committing genocide as now recognised by most countries in the world.

As I said my my first post this is not the day for the world politics and conflating two separate issues-government and religion. Its about giving strength and support to the Jewish community who no doubt will be in mourning following the attack on a synagogue.
