Let me get out my tiny violin. Just because she's sorry now doesn't change the fact she's a racist who incited violence

Agreed. Dreadful woman

Covidwoes · 20/05/2025 14:52

Laurence Fox set up a go fund me for her, and it has a ridiculous amount of money on it! I could think of much better causes!

Meh, they would not get a penny out of me.

CosmicCuppa · 20/05/2025 14:59

I’m as left wing as they come but seeing Lucy Connolly post a tweet she deleted three hours later vs the awful ex Labour counsellor who said right wing protestors should have their throats slit filmed on camera out on bail makes no bloody sense at all.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 20/05/2025 15:01

LOL good. Dreadful woman!

Seainasive · 20/05/2025 15:04

I’m not sure I agree that people should be punished for tweets like this. I believe free speech should be protected, even if we disagree with what is being said.

Whatever happened to "Two wrongs don't make a right" ?

Unless you are willing to only ever use "But <whoever> are worse" as your one and only defence were you to be tried in court (you won't) then it doesn't really have any bearing in other cases.

Other peoples bad behaviour is never an excuse for your own.

I'm sure he can see his own future in her story and he's bricking it. His comment history online is utterly hateful.

Go shout "Fire !" in a crowded theatre and tell the families of those killed in the crush about free speech. I'll hotd your coat.

Well he'd only raised £5 last time anyone could be arsed to care.

The day that free speech includes the right to tell people to burn people alive - any people - in their homes, is the day it should be banned. That is not an opinion where there may be disagreement - it is incitement to arson and murder.

No, I disagree. Incitement when there is violence happening is not free speech. Saying you hate something or someone, whatever.

Saying; “Mass deportation now, set fire to all the f hotels full of the b* for all I care… if that makes me racist so be it.” is incitement. Imagine being one of those people waiting for someone to set fire to the place you're sleeping.

Exactly this. Have 'free speech' by all means, but be big enough to deal with the consequences of your 'free speech.'

Yes, it's a pretty foul and disgusting thing to say about other human beings isn't it?

workshy46 · 20/05/2025 15:19

Utterly reprehensible but the sentence is still excessive.. paedophiles .. domestic abusers .. road killers have got less jail time.

1SillySossij · 20/05/2025 15:19

That's the influence of 'two tier Kier' for you!

Great argument for CS offenders to get more time.

Inciting people to burn people alive... also criminal.

Amazing, let me know your address and I’ll make a tweet telling people to burn it to the ground.

No one is suggesting what she did was right or didn’t deserve to be punished but she didn’t physically harm anyone and no one was physically harmed based on her tweet and when you have child and women abusers getting suspended sentences her getting 3 years seems disproportionate based on sentences in this country for other crimes

But the logical extension of that approach is :

"OK, they did fire a gun. But no one was hurt".

And you are quite free to pursue the "it's only words" line of reasoning. However you are either then calling for a free-for-all with no censorship of any kind. Or - as the famous saying goes - just agreeing about the price.

derxa · 20/05/2025 15:57

What benefit to society having her in jail? She’s lost her livelihood and reputation. Why can’t she be tagged?
