Child rapists given 'life' sentences

Ok, I cannot find another thread on this but I'm disgusted and confused. The horrific case of child abuse from Glasgow is being reported as being given 'life' sentences. But this includes OLRs ( orders for lifelong restrictions) and means an opportunity to be out on parole.
I am sorry, but that is not a life sentence in my eyes.
How can such depravity and literal torture of children receive prison sentences between 8 and 20 years? 8 years!
How is this right?

I pray for those children, it sounds as if they are finally receiving some of the love and care they always deserved.

It's on BBC page tonight. But I agree the previous reporting had been appalling.

I cannot answer that, bigger stories, English bias, whatever it may be. It's all wrong.

I don't think that it's a race divide as much as a reporting issue. If this had been in London or wherever BBC would have been all over it.

We have seen this, sadly, many times on MN raised over the years. Same goes with Ireland and wales.

I caught the news tonight and this was the last news item on BBC scotland, after the also horrific stabbing of a 12 year old in england.

I wish we could have more open reporting, I don't know how that is achieved.

This case is absolutely abhorrent and should be leading tonight. Yet it's more about people without power after the storms. (Three weeks here after Arwen, still waiting on that headline).

I find the reporting of these cases too open. I've noticed the reports of sexual abuse is often quite graphic now. I'm sure 20 years ago it wouldnt have been. And I'm not sure it does anything to help the situation or prevent such cases, I'm sure it's just for clicks. If anything is just invites sick people to get off on the descriptions.

I think the death penalty should be brought back for the most horrific crimes. These people will never be rehabilitated or any use to society. Some people genuinely don't deserve to live. Why clog up the prisons with them 🤷🏻‍♀️

The reason is because if you have a death penalty then the murdered victim count goes up. If the victims are dead there are no witnesses. That means you are more likely to get away with it.

Amazingly few comments, where's the hang 'em and flog 'em brigade now?

Don't be an arsehole. The Muslim rape gangs got away with rape and sexual abuse of girls for YEARS, protected by the police and local councillors. This has caused totally justified anger. Totally different. And I think they get shorter sentences for their probably similar levels of depravity if you want to compare. (Don't want to read the article right now tbh)

Absolute monsters!!

Those poor children are so incredibly brave to have spoken out and given all the details that they did.

Kibble29 · 27/01/2025 21:17

Would love to hear that these junkie scumbags have been tortured and murdered in prison.

TeenagersAngst · 27/01/2025 21:18

There is no evidence of people in authority seeking to minimise the crimes of white perpetrators to protect cultural cohesion. There was with the Muslim grooming gangs.

That's the issue. Stop playing the race card, its pathetic and in doing so you're as bad as the officials in Rotherham et al.

A Christian grooming gang

Yes. Where's Elon Musk's opinion on this?

Unfortunately I once knew the person in this 'ring' who got admonished earlier this year. I was not particularly close to her but I was close to others who knew her very well and allowed her around their kids. It has been sickening to realise what really went on with her and thankfully she was never left alone with my friends' children.
I am eternally grateful she was never around my children.
I can however confirm to @Thegoatliesdownonbroadway
they were absolutely not a Christian grooming gang. That is simply not true and I'm not sure where you heard anything of the sort. None of them are Christians.
Though as someone else commented, religion makes no difference when it comes to this, bizarre to try and angle it that way.

unmemorableusername · 27/01/2025 21:25

Most people given life sentences are out in 15 years. This lot will be inside much much longer than that.

Hope they die in jail. That's the only real justice.

boxyboxs · 27/01/2025 21:26

Why are people try to score points on such a subject? wow!

I think they should be killed, waste of money keeping them locked up.

whereaw · 27/01/2025 21:26

I would imagine that many people, like myself, haven't looked into this case in great detail as it's too difficult to do so. I've read the bare minimum and that is enough. The crimes are too horrific to comprehend. The media is driven by views and ultimately this type of story will make people turn off, look away. That's the truth of it.

I was under the impression the children were at least one of the guilty parties own children, I would imagine the women.

The thread was really meant to be about sentences. It just doesn't feel anywhere near enough to me. I can't see how people who have committed crimes of this nature should ever be released into public, under probation or not.

If you think it is ammunition to point score about completely unrelated issues that having absolutely nothing to do with this case... quite frankly that's appalling.

Why did you say this?

Yes. Where's Elon Musk's opinion on this?

They weren’t a Christian grooming gang. They were horrific junkie scumbags. It was reported here in Scotland at the time and sentencing was delayed due to the judge ordering risk assessments on them all.

Reading between the lines I think the children are related to at least one of them.

I don't think she did hear it anywhere tbh. She saw some white people and decided they must be Christians 🤔😂

That was the rather ridiculous point she was trying to make I think.

As in, if they were Muslims people would somehow be more upset/angry but because they're not no one cares 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️

Parsley1234 · 27/01/2025 21:31

Total scum just awful what with putting a child in a microwave and stabbing dogs to death just what the fuck like something out of a Stephen king book but it’s not

namechangetobecareful · 27/01/2025 21:31

@whereaw the sentences are not strong enough IMO.

whereaw · 27/01/2025 21:34

Personally I would ignore the insensitive and insulting comments trying to place the focus elsewhere. Those posters can't seem to see the irony in what they are saying. How dare they use these innocent children's trauma to score political points? It tells you all you need to know about their logic and lack of empathy.

By the looks of it, they're heroin addicts. So coming off that would be a start.

Not defending them but if it's a 'nothing could possibly be done to make these people less awful' well, getting off heroin would.

Coming off heroin and on to a lifetime of prescription drug substitutes at vast cost to the taxpayer.

Bigwelshlamb · 27/01/2025 21:38

Someone raped my adult child and they were given multiple life sentences and we're also convicted of seven other sex related crimes against her. He had a previous conviction for an assault on a child and served no prison time for that because he was under 25 and was mandated to do rehabilitation on the community which he attended whilst he was attacking my child. He has to serve a minimum of 10 years and 2 months before he can apply for parole (he was given two years off his sentence for doing one year on remand) and is subject to a lifetime on the Sex Offenders Register and monitoring if he does ever get out. I wasn't aware that Life is now 15 years unless the Judge sets a higher minimum. All that said, I don't think he'll actually ever get out given what he told the psychiatrist which was simply demented and terrifying although he was also found not to be suffering from any psychiatric disorder that could be treated. I don't agree with the death sentence even for him, it does nothing and it most certainly isn't a deterrent so it seems pointless. I would rather he spends the rest of his life, or meaningful life, inside and away from people. He's in a special wing for his own protection.

nocoolnamesleft · 27/01/2025 21:39

Sickening.

Ritasueandbobtoo9 · 27/01/2025 21:40

I doubt there is much worship going on in a Glaswegian drug den and it actually says that some witchcraft / rituals were discounted so by all means refer to satanic gangs but it is silly to say they were Christian.

TaylorSwish · 27/01/2025 21:44

CherryVanillaPie · 27/01/2025 20:40

How did they get access to the children? Were they their children?

I don’t think that would be reported to protect the victim’s identities.

GiuliaTofana · 27/01/2025 21:44

I'm not a hysterical "crying, shaking and threw up" type of person.
But when I read this I actually cried. 7 years those children experienced some of the most depraved things imaginable. I'm not one of the death penalty being given by the state, but I do hope they're fucked up beyond measure from other prisoners.
