Child rapists given 'life' sentences

Ok, I cannot find another thread on this but I'm disgusted and confused. The horrific case of child abuse from Glasgow is being reported as being given 'life' sentences. But this includes OLRs ( orders for lifelong restrictions) and means an opportunity to be out on parole.
I am sorry, but that is not a life sentence in my eyes.
How can such depravity and literal torture of children receive prison sentences between 8 and 20 years? 8 years!
How is this right?

I pray for those children, it sounds as if they are finally receiving some of the love and care they always deserved.

I've just been reading this and absolutely agree that
the sentences are nowhere near enough. The details of the case are absolutely horrific.

I haven’t heard of OLRs before. It sounds like these people will be subject to restrictions for life and put back in prison automatically if they break those rules or the law.

Leading KC Tommy Ross said orders for lifelong restriction (OLRs) are reserved for the most serious court cases which do not involve murder.
Before an order is imposed the subject must undergo an extensive risk assessment process, conducted by psychologists, which typically takes about 12 weeks.
A judge then sets a minimum prison term – known as the punishment part – that the offender must serve before they are eligible to apply for parole.
And, if granted parole, they are subject to recall back to prison in the event that they commit any new offences or breach the terms of their release.
Mr Ross told BBC Scotland News: "Essentially when you get an order for lifelong restriction you will either be in prison or parole for the rest of your natural life."
In 2023/24 a total of 18 OLRs were imposed in courts across Scotland

Frankly I think this case deserves capital punishment. These monsters do not deserve to breathe. Meanwhile their victims have a life sentence of trauma after enduring years of sexual, physical and emotional abuse.
I cannot comprehend such depravity or understand how the abusers felt gratification. They are barely human.

Amazingly few comments, where's the hang 'em and flog 'em brigade now?

Tey are too fat to hang, the rope would snap

yappyyappy · 27/01/2025 20:05

I think anyone who commits rape should be given a life sentence because it's a life sentence for the victims.

Are they Christians? I didn't see that in the link that OP posted? Also, not sure how it's relevant?

Don't know how to show links
It was on BBC news Scotland site.

I hadn't read the news report because it looked just too horrible, and I was right. One of the girls was still in a nappy when the abuse began. They're incredibly brave to have given statements.

As for these disgusting, depraved men and women, what can possibly be said? As with the Southport murderer, their lives are now miserable, meaningless non-existences, exactly as they deserve.

I haven’t heard of this case before now, so could be missing some info, but nowhere does it say in the report linked that these people were churchgoers? The report actually talks about witchcraft rituals, which a Christian would not be involved in. They sound like druggies. Those poor children.

Judge Lord Beckett told the gang, whose jail sentences totalled more than 93 years, that they may never be released from prison.

I caught some of it on the news, and IIRC the judge said that, for parole even to be considered, they would have to convince a panel that there was no risk they would ever harm anyone again.

From the way he said it and the rest of his comments, it sounded like he thought parole was unlikely ever.

They may not be active/practising/believing Christians, but I think we can safely say that they aren't Muslims. As a PP said, compare the traffic on this thread with similar ones when the perpetrators are bit less pasty than this lot.

Still, I'm sure that Tommy Robinson, who is definitely all about the poor victims and definitely not about having a pop at Muslims, will be coming out with a full-throated condemnation of this.

And in reply to the OP: The judge imposed the maximum penalty that is allowed under Scottish law. Just because they have minimum sentences of a certain length doesn't meant they will be out after that time. In fact the judge seems to have implied that many of them may never leave prison, which is always possible with a life sentence.

I don't think there is any suggestion they are Christian at all, is there?

And I think it's fairly obvious they're not Muslim either 🤔 😂

PerkingFaintly · 27/01/2025 20:23

IIUC the OLR will mean they stay in prison even after the sentences are completed. Unless they can prove they won't harm anyone again, which of course they can't.

I suppose if with age they become bedridden and also unable to operate electronic devices, they might be deemed incapable of committing further harm.

I think the death penalty should be brought back for the most horrific crimes. These people will never be rehabilitated or any use to society. Some people genuinely don't deserve to live. Why clog up the prisons with them 🤷🏻‍♀️

TheMousePipes · 27/01/2025 20:28

I hope they put them in the general population prison. Time for a reckoning.
Those poor children.

How disgusting of people who feel the need to come on this thread and play the race card. You should be ashamed.

LuluBlakey1 · 27/01/2025 20:33

You just have to look at them - they are disgusting specimens of the human race. They should have been locked up for life and all been given a minimum 40 year sentence. Dregs of society.

Hapagirl48 · 27/01/2025 20:34

I only read a bit of the article before I have to stop. Disgusting creatures. They should never see the light of day again. I can't imagine they will be in prison long though, they are all younger than me and look about 20 years older. Hopefully nature will takes its course.
