Child rapists given 'life' sentences

Ok, I cannot find another thread on this but I'm disgusted and confused. The horrific case of child abuse from Glasgow is being reported as being given 'life' sentences. But this includes OLRs ( orders for lifelong restrictions) and means an opportunity to be out on parole.
I am sorry, but that is not a life sentence in my eyes.
How can such depravity and literal torture of children receive prison sentences between 8 and 20 years? 8 years!
How is this right?

I pray for those children, it sounds as if they are finally receiving some of the love and care they always deserved.

How disgusting of people who feel the need to come on this thread and play the race card. You should be ashamed.

Well why not? Funny how there is so much silence when the perps are white...

JessiesJ99 · 27/01/2025 20:37

Tbh, these people just need to be put down. Aside from these terrible crimes they commit, they are also the type that contribute absolutely nothing and are a drain on society.

soupyspoon · 27/01/2025 20:38

Someone will be along soon to say the women involved are vulnerable and were coerced into it

ByQuaintAzureWasp · 27/01/2025 20:39

A truly sickening case.

CherryVanillaPie · 27/01/2025 20:40

How did they get access to the children? Were they their children?

Onlinemum22 · 27/01/2025 20:40

Does anyone know where the parents were? It doesn't seem like any of the gang were related to the children

Lyn348 · 27/01/2025 20:41

Absolutely vile. I hope the scum rot in jail. No way can they be let out in 8 years.

JessiesJ99 · 27/01/2025 20:45

Yes, a bit like when it came out about the Catholic church sexual abuse scandal. It was hardly mentioned. So much silence.

Oh no, wait, hang on....

Fuckitydoodah · 27/01/2025 20:46

Utterly vile specimens. I hope they meet an unpleasant and painful death. The sentences are not enough.

SprinkleOfSunak · 27/01/2025 20:46

And this is exactly what the death penalty should be for.

Youngheartsalittletogetherness · 27/01/2025 20:46

Has it made the national news or is it confined to Scotland.I would like to think if it's confined to Scotland that's why it hasn't been picked up on

I was confused by that as well, I couldn't tell if they were in some sort of care or where their parents were or were their parents amongst the abusers? Those poor, poor kids.

I'm sure they were children or relatives of some of the people convicted, most likely the women. Money changed hands, and probably drugs. The relationship would not be made public to protect the children's identities.

wizzywig · 27/01/2025 20:51

@JessiesJ99 I didn't know if you were being genuine? I think other posters are saying, had these rapists been not white and / or Muslim, then there would be uproar and riots. Seeing as they are white, there are is no response. Just have a look on MN.

Someone said they didn't look muslim. Muslims can be any colour.

SilvieBear · 27/01/2025 20:51

It was on the BBC 6 o’clock national news, @Youngheartsalittletogetherness
@Onlinemum22 I was also wondering where the parents / guardians of these poor children were. There’s no mention at all in anything I’ve read.

I saw it on national bbc news.

Buildingthefuture · 27/01/2025 20:58

I don’t give a shit about nationality or religion. If you rape a child you should go to prison for life. Your entire life.

Hotflushesandchilblains · 27/01/2025 20:58

Reading about what they did was truly shocking, and I was surprised at how light the sentences seemed. But parole can include massive restrictions - it does not mean free to go about daily life. It might include regular polygraphs, restrictions on where they can live, curfews, etc etc. I have heard of people doing something to get back in prison because they find it easier in a lot of ways.

andHelenknowsimmiserablenow · 27/01/2025 20:58

I doubt the relationship between them and the abused children will be reported as the childrens identity needs to be protected.
These are disgusting humans, and yet again social services were involved for quite a while before the children were removed.
It makes me feel ill to think of what these children went through.

It's on BBC page tonight. But I agree the previous reporting had been appalling.

I cannot answer that, bigger stories, English bias, whatever it may be. It's all wrong.

I don't think that it's a race divide as much as a reporting issue. If this had been in London or wherever BBC would have been all over it.

We have seen this, sadly, many times on MN raised over the years. Same goes with Ireland and wales.

I caught the news tonight and this was the last news item on BBC scotland, after the also horrific stabbing of a 12 year old in england.

I wish we could have more open reporting, I don't know how that is achieved.

This case is absolutely abhorrent and should be leading tonight. Yet it's more about people without power after the storms. (Three weeks here after Arwen, still waiting on that headline).

ScreamingBeans · 27/01/2025 21:02

GB News have been reporting it.

I was responding to someone who said they were Christians. There is no mention of this in the article.

Black and Asian men are convicted every day of sexual assault and rape, and there are no riots.

White men are convicted every day of sexual assault and rape. To say there is no response to these cases is simply not true. There have been so many high-profile cases of white men who have committed sexual assault, rape or murder.

In this case, the perpetrators are white. I think the OP posted about their sentences. I'm not sure why other people are talking about Asian grooming gangs on this thread as it's just not relevant.

Couldbysunny · 27/01/2025 21:04

The law is the law. People have the right to parole hearings. That doesn't necessarily mean they'll get granted parole.
You really want the state to have the power to throw people in prison forever without all these safeguards?
Fine and dandy when you dislike the person.. but surely you understand the danger??
I mean i don't know why I've bothered replying because threads like these are just a competition for people to foam at the mouth the most regarding child killers or whatever.. hang em! Chop off their dicks!!
Hardly anyone is interested in the reality of the situation.
There's a reason we don't have capital punishment in this country and it's not coz "We Aare SOft on PeAdos!!!"
It's because it's pointless, expensive, and massively flawed.
No one wants to think about what the repercussions would be if we were allowed some kind of situation where the public got to hang the criminals they most disliked.
It's just a rage fantasy thread.

Hercisback1 · 27/01/2025 21:05

I think it's such a harrowing case, people won't have read it all. I couldn't. Then discussing it online seems macabre.

Removed from where?

It says the allegations about what was happening surfaced in 2020.

Are these their children then?
