Are we just going for the head in the sand approach or are we going to get a pamphlet or something?

Apparently Finland and Sweden are giving out pamphlets. Germany has published a document where they are going to act as a ‘logistics hub’ for NATO troops. Russia is mass producing mobile bunkers for their citizens. I just wonder what Keir and crew are getting together for us.
A Powerpoint to duck and take cover at least? I had to change the autocorrect from’dick’ and take cover 🤦🏻‍♀️)

We’ll all be advised to just stay calm, wash hands, huddle together & sing happy birthday 🤣😂

picklepotage · 21/11/2024 20:16

you mean retaliate rather than attack. Love him or hate him … here’s a perspective you won’t hear from the bbc

Merinda · 21/11/2024 20:17

This stuff makes my blood boil. This is exactly what Putin is hoping for - scared little westerners trying to influence their governments to help him win.
They have been threatening with nukes from day 1. Ukraine has been under attack from missiles on almost daily basis - most of those missiles are capable of carrying a nuclear warhead.
Just think for one moment how many russians live in London/UK, and where most of the oligarchs' and their kids are spending money. What is the point of nuking a country where your kids live?
This sort of narrative (like the Daily Mail nuclear scares today) are exactly what russians love to spread. Next step for you lot is to start asking for "peace" and for Ukraine to give up its territories.

I’ve got some Mylar sheets and out of date instant pasta if anyone needs to bunk in my greenhouse with me?

Pot noodle? I’m in.

Merinda · 21/11/2024 20:21

And let's accept some simple realities: it is not a "conflict", it is an invasion of a sovereign nation. The "de-escalation" can only be achieved by the invading power. All this BS about NATO escalation is classic russian propaganda playbook - congratulations, those of you who are talking about it are russian tools

stargazerlil · 21/11/2024 20:25

I know I’m going to be here for the long haul, I’m in the North West so anyone else around there we should be ok. I don’t know about the rest of you. Good luck.

It should tell us to Stock Up on Toilet Paper in no uncertain terms!!

A proper nuclear war? Not going to do you much good having a pamphlet.

Our bathtub is currently full of loo rolls but I think DH just got carried away at the wholesalers, rather than having insider info about nuclear attacks.

Evan456 · 21/11/2024 21:31

They just cut the defence budget by £50000000 yesterday

I've stockpiled about 5 years worth of beauty products so I'll be fine. I can die pretty.

Bernardo1 · 21/11/2024 23:15

Believe Starmer and Foreign minster Lammy have spoken very seriously to Putin. He will be aware of our displeasure.

When it can be afforded, they are going to increase Defence spending to 2.5% so we can relax.

Shanda5 · 21/11/2024 23:19

I'll head to the Winchester and wait for this all to blow over.

What have they done? Put him on the naughty step?

@DogInATent

We could get a lot more upset about Russian interference with UK politics. But the Venn diagram of those pissed off at Labour over inheritance tax for farmers and those upset about Russian support and manipulation in favour of Brexit, Farage, Reform et al and Boris' overly familiar relationships with Russian oligarchs and intelligence officers doesn't have much overlap.

Abso-fucking-lutely this!

Bunny65 · 22/11/2024 03:03

Any guidance for nukes is pretty meaningless. Russsia's mobile bomb shelters are a publicity stunt. And they don't really want Moscow nuked, which it would be.

OldMam · 22/11/2024 05:45

Well I’m okay. I’ve still got my original copy of ‘Protect and Survive’. Just popping out for more brown paper to cover the windows.

It's a great piece of television but not the thing to be viewing at the moment! I watched a lot of programmes in the summer of 1985, inc Threads, which were being shown to mark the anniversary of the nuclear attacks on Japan. I was a teenager and the Cold War was still very much a reality, and I scared myself witless. Kids must be terrified right now.

I wondered about kids as a poster mentioned . They had told their kids they would be running to the nuclear bomb not away. .

My child doesn’t have such info .
Yes wheh it all started they heard about it in school and I remember a discussion on here about telling kids.
My child met a Ukrainian friend on holiday we keep in touch with . They know they are living elsewhere due to the war.

I just wouldn’t want their head filled with all of this . Jeeze it’s hard enough for adults to deal with.

I also had to stop watching the news .

I've got one too! I'm unscrewing the doors as we speak.

Merinda · 22/11/2024 08:51

By the way, for those uninitiated: there are certain channels through which russia communicated with the NATO about the impending strike - the US/NATO knew about it. Why? Because the genocidal bastards were afraid to be obliterated by a NATO nuclear strike in response. Everything is known an visible.

By doing what? We need guidance!

Guidance on what? What on earth do you think anyone can tell you?

How on earth do people wake up in the morning without a diagram

To be fair, a significant proportion of the population would struggle to find their arse in the morning without a map and torch.

@Araminta1003 that’s what the data shows already, Starmer is as unpopular as Nigel Farage, that was in October.

NF isn’t unpopulated

Unpopular I mean

Because Russia aren't going to attack us. Russia have been at war with tiny little Ukraine for 1000 days and not been able to best them. If NATO get involved they're fucked. They can't fight us and Ukraine and America, France and the rest of NATO. They know that. They take out one of us, the rest retaliate. Putin is nuts, not stupid.

That’s what our government wants us to think. The truth is different. If Putin's aim was to occupy the whole of Ukraine, he could have done so in no time. Remember, he has China, Iran, and North Korea on his side. Who knows what weapons these countries possess? Considering this, and the fact that they don’t like the West, the conflict could escalate very quickly. It’s better not to take chances or provoke that part of the world and instead aim for peace.
If the worst happens, would you send your sons and husbands to fight wars that aren’t ours—wars that only serve to make greedy financiers richer and gain more control over the world?
