2 tier Keir

I want to make the usual caveats before I post. The rioters are without doubt far right thugs. I am not here to make excuses for them. I would happily see them locked away for years. They deserve everything that is coming to them.

What I want to see from Starmer is equal passion when it comes to other acts of terrorism or aggression.

I simply cannot get over the fact a serving soldier was stabbed 70 times outside his barracks, in front of his wife, in what is presumably a political statement and this was his response:

Sir Keir Starmer, appearing at his first Prime Minister's Questions, opened by saying: "I know the whole house will be shocked by the news that a soldier has been attacked in Kent. "Our thoughts are with him, his family and our Armed Forces who serve to keep us safe and we wish him a swift recovery."

No ‘anybody who attacks our military personnel for their occupation will regret it’. No ‘he will face the full weight of the law’. No extra money to secure barracks and protect their employees (as he has rightly done for Mosques). Just a pathetic statement akin to something you would jot in a ‘get well soon’ card.

The riots are a different kind of damage and I appreciate that but as far as I know nobody has been stabbed or is fighting for their life.

If he had cracked down hard and equally on Harehills, this thug, and the EDL knuckle draggers I feel he would have gained respect from all demographics. But he’s fast losing it because he only appears to be in his comfort zone when ‘taking on the far right’ (from his office) while ignoring the rest.

I’ll try again. Where were the police when this was happening?

https://www.birminghammail.co.uk/news/midlands-news/police-probe-birmingham-video-shows-29683974.amp

Deployed to the well organised well publicised "protests" at a guess.

Did they not attend this at all?

I’ve seen multiple videos (as still images can be deceptive) and not a single officer. Compare with the videos of the EDL thuggery and it’s plain to see they did not show up.

But there's loads of videos of the footy crew terrorising shopping areas unmolested.

"Wah 2 tier policing, why can't we just be left alone to commit crime wah"

If you only choose to look at certain SM for your ‘facts m then you aren’t going to get many facts at all.

Birmingham - there were police there, but nothing much happened. Those men gathered, hung around not much else.
police have said they’re looking to arrest people for reported ‘sporadic’ criminality.

If those people had been burning buildings, looting etc there would have been more police present.
There’s only so many riot police. There’s only so many police.

You haven't seen them stumbling out of Gregg's and lush? Give over you're being wilfully blind.

Exactly I've seen the videos of looters at greggs and lush too with not an officer in sight.

It's worrying how easily some people are manipulated by social media. This whole thing from the very start has been inflamed by gullable people who believe everything they see or hear on social media then scurry off and repeat it as facts elsewhere where more gullable people hear it and repeat it. Better education seems like the best way of tackling this nonsense in the long run because the lack of investment in the education system is really showing of late.

Don't forget the woman with the armful of Crocs!

HPFA · 06/08/2024 19:48

Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if Keir gets more popular after all the absolutely batshit crazy stuff being thrown at him.

If he had responded with the same words to two very different situations you'd all now be calling him a robot and saying how he was incapable of empathy or something.

Some people really do need to get over the election result. I'm old enough to have been on the losing side of elections a few times - it never inspired me to just make up complete nonsense about the winners!

The English Defence League (EDL) hasn't been in operation for years
Are you getting confused with the Muslim Defence League which, according to its machete & knife wielding afficiandos, does exist?

Lots of buyers remorse around now. I think people thought Labour can’t be worse than the Tories, but failed to factor in that the Tories were just incompetent and with Labour the destruction is intentional to make us all ‘equal’.
Look on the bright side, Labour will be out for a long time after this again. 14/15 years seems to be our collective memory for their silly dogma…..unless they allow children to vote anyway.

My new favourite ‘ I want my country back picture’ is of the 2 delighted looking girls carrying a load of Crocs and other goods they’ e looted and grinning right into a camera…
well done ladies, makes your prosecution all the easier. Fucking dimwits.

Yes dimwits they may be, but they’re not the reason we have to draft new laws to protect children from being murdered at holiday clubs and concerts. Just let that sink in for a minute, that’s what sort of society we’ve turned into.

Sunshineonararainydayyy · 08/08/2024 09:32

I feel encouraged by the peaceable response last night to the right wing thuggery, reclaiming our streets.

@Afterours Labour have only just got in, it’s far too early to say how long they will be in power or out of power. You can’t credibly blame them for the disenfranchment or whatever twaddle you want to say led to this thuggish behaviour, that’s all happened during the Tories time in power.

Also there have always been lone wolf attacks (mainly presumably mental health related) I remember as a child the horror of Hungerford & Dunblane. Sadly they will never be fully eradicated. There is a national mental health crisis so the more staff & money are put into it to allow proper assessment, monitoring & support the better as this is a strong preventative measure.

I don’t think children being murdered is twaddle. I’m assuming you’re not a parent and that’s not what you really meant. A bit of self reflection and moderation would be recommended.

Sunshineonararainydayyy · 08/08/2024 14:43

@Afterours the twaddle I'm referring to is your comments.

The woman (a company director according to the media) who first released the misinformation on X naming someone incorrectly and suggesting the perpetrator of the atrocity was an asylum seeker who came over in a boat last year helping fuel this sorry chain of events is now backpeddling furiously.
https://www.msn.com/en-gb/news/uknews/woman-named-as-first-to-share-false-southport-suspect-rumour-before-riots-says-mistake-destroyed-her/ar-AA1osrd0

I hope that the law keeps up in regard to social media, as this is one of the most dangerous new ways of inciting violence and hatred.

One heinous act was committed by an individual. Everyone in the country was horrified. Some racists decided to use this awful incident to fuel their narrative that immigrants (in particular Muslim immigrants) are a threat to Britain and, in consequence, started attacking multiple people and places. Looks like a lot of them will have time to reflect on their racist and law-breaking actions from a jail cell.

That view makes sense if you view this as an isolated incident. Unfortunately, such high levels of immigration without the electorate consent has destabilised the country and we’re going to be at the mercy of extremist views from both sides of the argument for the foreseeable. This will effect everyone, I don’t think that genie is going back in the bottle anytime soon unfortunately. What a sorry mess.
