I want to make the usual caveats before I post. The rioters are without doubt far right thugs. I am not here to make excuses for them. I would happily see them locked away for years. They deserve everything that is coming to them.

What I want to see from Starmer is equal passion when it comes to other acts of terrorism or aggression.

I simply cannot get over the fact a serving soldier was stabbed 70 times outside his barracks, in front of his wife, in what is presumably a political statement and this was his response:

Sir Keir Starmer, appearing at his first Prime Minister's Questions, opened by saying: "I know the whole house will be shocked by the news that a soldier has been attacked in Kent. "Our thoughts are with him, his family and our Armed Forces who serve to keep us safe and we wish him a swift recovery."

No ‘anybody who attacks our military personnel for their occupation will regret it’. No ‘he will face the full weight of the law’. No extra money to secure barracks and protect their employees (as he has rightly done for Mosques). Just a pathetic statement akin to something you would jot in a ‘get well soon’ card.

The riots are a different kind of damage and I appreciate that but as far as I know nobody has been stabbed or is fighting for their life.

If he had cracked down hard and equally on Harehills, this thug, and the EDL knuckle draggers I feel he would have gained respect from all demographics. But he’s fast losing it because he only appears to be in his comfort zone when ‘taking on the far right’ (from his office) while ignoring the rest.

Surely you can see the difference between a single person probably mentally ill who has already been taken into custody or killed and there's no further risk presented, and the current ongoing violence with no end in sight?

The left have been dealt with, just stop oil didn't kill or injure anyone or damage anything and they still got jail time.

I don’t think it’s about ‘native Britons’.

The two tiers don’t just apply to this.

Gender critical women and TRAs - police are happy to arrest gender refuseniks and thought police them, while ignoring threats to women from TRAs

Sarah Everard’s vigil where women were aggressively thrown to the floor and arrested for ‘breaking Covid rules’ while kneeling for BLM protests a few months earlier

Rotherham - children being abused were arrested whereas their abusers were turned a blind eye to, time and time again.

Let me make it very clear I have no personal issue with kneeling for BLM. But if you think there aren’t two tiers of policing based on ‘public perception’ and ‘sensitivities’ you’re deluded. If not; have a go at justifying the above.

Keir starmer wasn't in power when any of your examples happened. Can't believe you are trying to blame him!

I would hope a literal military base is already secure. What do you think they're missing?

I don't think I'm getting an answer.

People just aren’t that bright sometimes.
Happy to see all the lovely videos of these right wing knobheads getting themselves arrested now, police coming to their homes after tracking them down from all the video footage … or I’d-ing them on social media with the help of the public.
And of course they and their family members are STILL filming and putting out footage of them, now getting arrested.
Stoopid is and Stoopid does!

One bloke posted on Twitter about burning down asylum seeker accommodation and is now back in ( he’s lost his job, he’s been arrested) whining that he didn’t mean it and he’s got a little kid… boo fecking hoo, fella

No. perhaps OP had a moment of clarity, and released that military bases are quite possibly THE most secure bases in this country, what with the big walls, security cameras, towers, oh and armed military personnel EVERYWHERE

@Shakeoffyourchains I wasn’t on MN then.

I think over the last 10 years, public services have been consumed by political correctness and making sure the ‘optics’ are right. In my workplace, a man (known for staring at women’s bums/breasts and making inappropriate remarks) now comes to work dressed in fetish gear and stilettos. We ‘can’t say anything’ despite feeling very uncomfortable because it wouldn’t be ‘respecting his gender identity’ and therefore we must silently tolerate it. In a similar vein, the police have no issue barging into a showering woman’s home to arrest her for gender wrongthink, but they wouldn’t arrest men abusing children in Rotherham because of the racial implications. They’re unable to fairly police as they are, in my opinion, very preoccupied with whether their methods will placate the right communities. If you’re a woman, or Jewish, tough.

Keir Starmer is a separate issue. His reaction to recent events have been disjointed to the extent you can tell he feels similarly. Officers were kicked and punched to the floor at Manchester airport, a female officer’s nose was broken, and nothing apart from ‘understanding concern’ about an officer kicking a perpetrator. And arranging for the Home Secretary to go to meet with Andy Burnham to ‘investigate’ the kick. No statement about how those attacking the officers are thugs and will face the full force of the law. Just ‘concern’ about how the perpetrators were treated.

"Understanding concern" about people seeing a policeman stamp on someones head doesn't mean anything one way or the other. He could mean "I understand but the copper had a tough job to do" or "it doesn't look great but..." or "coppers shouldn't be doing that no matter what". It's a poker faced sound bite.

Also when you say "equal passion" how do you know he won't show equal passion when an equal event happens? There haven't really been like for like under his watch yet. Has anything in the last few years been as bad as what we saw in Rotherham yesterday? People set fire to a hotel with people inside it. He condemned the BLM riots. You aren't comparing apples and apples.

If I ‘showed concern’ on here for a far right thug having his head kicked by police in Middlesborough yesterday, I would be called a nazi sympathiser, and told the police are also humans who are pushed to the limit when under attack.

I cannot abide the double standards.

Or perhaps, OP, you think people screaming racial abuse and attacking asylum
seekers shouldn’t be arrested or charged for breaking our ENGLISH laws that are there to deal with hate crime, violence and the assault of police?

Er, loads of people have said that exact same thing about the police officer at Manchester airport? Mumsnet isn't exactly a fan of policemen either so I would think had you posted that (if it had happened which oddly it doesn't seem to have) then you'd have had some agreeing voices. So again, still no double standards, just ones you're making up.

My God you’re exhausting. You make up utter nonsense which is directly at odds with what I’ve said then pretend I said it. How do you keep a straight face?

We will have to agree to disagree. Around half of posters reading this thread agree and this is a left leaning website. The public clearly have concerns and deserve answers.

There a plenty of threads that show this isn't a left leaning site, and I reiterate my specific point about what you said about "equal passion". At this moment there is nothing to suggest there is two tier policing as nothing has happened to the magnitude of what has happened yesterday barring possibly the BLM riots which he has condemned.

So the public can certainly deserve answers, but the question you're trying to answer hasn't even been posed yet.

But MOST threads and responses are left leaning - to the degree if somebody isn’t they accuse them of being a bot. It’s like they can’t conceive that people exist who don’t have very left wing opinions.

There is no two tier system … it’s just a nice little soundbite for (mostly) right-leaning people trying to have a pop at the PM.

These people list events, that happened, when he wasn’t Prime Minister. Like they can retro-fit blame - it’s quite bizzare, and just a little desperate.

The police officer should not have kicked that man in the head, it was a disgrace. They people who attacked the Police Officer and under investigation, and (I would imagine) charged.

Riot is a very specific crime, and is always treated more harshly..

(TBH, I think it’s mostly people still annoyed about the election results .. they really need to get over it)

It's really not.
Used to be years ago, but definitely doesn't seem to be anymore.

BallerinaRadio · 05/08/2024 22:11

The amount of people parroting "two tier policing" is embarrassing. The rioters in harehills have been dealt with and charged. What more do you want them to do? A public flogging maybe?

People just throwing around slogans like two tier policing ignoring any sort of fact based evidence is pathetic. Stop making excuses for the thugs destroying our town centres.

Shaketherombooga · 05/08/2024 22:13

Just reading that many of those charged were identified by their tattoos, lack of teeth and other distinctive markers - says it all doesn’t it.
And that fake arsehole ‘Tommy Robinson’ is currently hiding in Cyprus while tweeting all sorts of shite to inflame the baying mobs…
