I want to make the usual caveats before I post. The rioters are without doubt far right thugs. I am not here to make excuses for them. I would happily see them locked away for years. They deserve everything that is coming to them.

What I want to see from Starmer is equal passion when it comes to other acts of terrorism or aggression.

I simply cannot get over the fact a serving soldier was stabbed 70 times outside his barracks, in front of his wife, in what is presumably a political statement and this was his response:

Sir Keir Starmer, appearing at his first Prime Minister's Questions, opened by saying: "I know the whole house will be shocked by the news that a soldier has been attacked in Kent. "Our thoughts are with him, his family and our Armed Forces who serve to keep us safe and we wish him a swift recovery."

No ‘anybody who attacks our military personnel for their occupation will regret it’. No ‘he will face the full weight of the law’. No extra money to secure barracks and protect their employees (as he has rightly done for Mosques). Just a pathetic statement akin to something you would jot in a ‘get well soon’ card.

The riots are a different kind of damage and I appreciate that but as far as I know nobody has been stabbed or is fighting for their life.

If he had cracked down hard and equally on Harehills, this thug, and the EDL knuckle draggers I feel he would have gained respect from all demographics. But he’s fast losing it because he only appears to be in his comfort zone when ‘taking on the far right’ (from his office) while ignoring the rest.

Just reading that many of those charged were identified by their tattoos, lack of teeth and other distinctive markers - says it all doesn’t it.
And that fake arsehole ‘Tommy Robinson’ is currently hiding in Cyprus while tweeting all sorts of shite to inflame the baying mobs…

Yes it shows most of them are probably from grinding poverty. Where do you live out of curiosity? Have you ever been poor?

Agree re TR

This.

And even if money was provided for this purpose, to announce it would send a message to the world that security at UK military bases are sub-optimal. Which could invite trouble and put personnel at more risk of harm.

Personnel would be at more risk? From whom?

I wasn't responding to a comment about benefits - I was sharing the fact that I've been too poor to even contemplate getting a tattoo, in response to you asking about experience of poverty.

Why are you assuming they're claimants? Surely you're not stereotyping?

CranfordScones · 05/08/2024 23:49

If the policies of recent decades have brought us to our present situation, at what point do you consider that those policies may have been wrong?

Various commentators predicted these events over a decade ago, and wrote books about, and were dismissed as scaremongers.

No I’m laughing at how flustered posters get when they let their own bias slip, as you very well know. They then attempt to turn it on me again 🙃

well done ladies, makes your prosecution all the easier. Fucking dimwits.

Like the Muslims waving a Palestinian flag who attached a pub and stamped on someone head last night?

VestaTilley · 06/08/2024 07:50

I agree with you OP. We’ve seen it with his contempt for women’s rights campaigners - if he thinks we’re against his supported groups we get treated with nothing but contempt. Even when we’re right and he’s wrong.

luluharry · 06/08/2024 07:51

I think you may be missing the point. Over the last few decades, we have seen multiple times when similar mobs have formed to protest, normally men, normally with faces covered, these mobs make threats to life. One example would be the teacher that is still un hiding for showing an approves lesson, another is the mother of an autistic child covered in a headscarf visiting a mosque surrounded by men and with the labour councillor begging forgiveness as her child's life had been threatened, because the mob want blasphemy laws introduced. The police do nothing in these circumstances as they worry about community cohesion. This is what can't continue, this is the cause of the problem.

Motomum23 · 06/08/2024 08:00

If course its not unreasonable. Let's all remember that not much more than 2 weeks ago a huge cohort of Asian people rioted in Leeds for no apparent reason - I think there were 4 arrests made - and if you haven't seen the video of a huge bunch of those people shouting racist abuse at a white local man who happened to be walking home then you should find it before you start declaring all the problems in the country to be the fault of the 'far-right'.
I don't agree with rioting but frankly people feel their voices are not being heard and that's what happens.

The reason these riots haven't happened before is because the Government has gotten in quickly to control and re-direct the public response. Someone posted this on another thread yesterday:

https://www.middleeasteye.net/news/mind-control-secret-british-government-blueprints-shaping-post-terror-planning

For some reason the Government doesn't seem to have activated this plan for Southport. Someone yesterday suggested they had been caught on the hop by the racist rumours about the culrpit being a recent migrant.

'Controlled spontaneity': The secret UK government blueprints shaping post-terror planning

After the 2017 London Bridge attack, local officials were told: 'We're sending you a hundred imams.'

Shaketherombooga · 06/08/2024 08:35

And the suggestion that only poor people are the ones rioting is fucking insulting. The
rioters are racist thugs. There are plenty WC people, needing benefits or in work NOT joining a baying mob attacking anyone of colour, looting high street shops, getting pissed up and attacking police.
Most of them in fact.
It’s pathetic. I’m not English, DP isn’t even from this continent but no-one is screaming at us to ‘get out’ - because we’re white.

Not a police officer to be seen. Weapons on display, antisemitic shouting, a news van attacked, ending in a man being beaten in a pub. Why?

Credit to the Muslim elders who seem to be the only ones interested in some kind of actual peace process. Our politicians are too busy with ineffective prison sentences.
