I do believe racists are in the minority. But I am worried it’s going to get worse.
I have family in harehills and lived there when I was young. There’s loads of tension. Some are just racist, but some are more moderate and have valid concerns. The influx of Roma to the area was already causing tension and not just between the Roma and white British people, but between lots of groups.
And people can take the piss out of ‘two tier policing’ but that’s how some people genuinely feel, because that’s their experience. That’s the life they live.
and because they feel like no one cares, no one gives shit or listens without labelling them as racist they are going to start drifting to the groups that are. Even if they don’t fully agree with these groups points of view.
I also think that there will be more and more British born people who are not white starting to join these things. And even people who are not white and not British born joining. The racist groups will compromise for a bit to get more support. There’s a video at the moment of a woman who isn’t British (you can tell by her accent) and isn’t white telling people ‘if you don’t like the country fuck off out of it’.
I think it’s extremely complex and not black and white. And I worry these thugs who have caused all this damage will get a bit more savvy. Reduce the violence to get more support and I think that would work.
