I haven't done anything of the kind.
In previous posts I made it very clear that I condemn the violence on both sides. I think most of the posters here criticising the police here, are also condemning the violence on both sides.

I think you and some other pp are underestimating the reality of the violence officers faced and what it would be like

And that our police force resorts to much lower response than many other countries

IClaudine · 28/07/2024 15:30

Does anyone know if there is any footage of what happened just before the point where the men became so very violent?

Well, there's the CCTV footage that's on the BBC website where there were some police officers attempting to arrest one of them, at which point the two men went absolutely ballistic, one hurling himself onto the police officer's back and lots of repeatedly smacking down the officers with their fists, the Mum rushing in...

Yes I have seen that, but I am curious to see what happened leading up to the arrest and the ensuing thuggery.

Do you mean the incident with the other passenger?

Yes, what exactly happened that caused the police to turn up.

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 28/07/2024 18:19

@IClaudine police are asking for videos from the public too about that. So far , I haven't seen any, I don't know if they have received any or if they will be released.

I can only repeat what the news say and the police have stated, so I can't guarantee the full accuracy of this.

Basically, an incident happened between their mum on the flight , and again at baggage claim(police are also asking for any videos of this). When their mum came out she told them what happened and pointed a man out. An incident occurred between these two and the man (some news sources report another incident at Starbucks). This initial confrontation is why the police attended and why they (presumably) went hot straight for the brothers to arrest them.

I remember reading about a woman arrested by Greater Manchester Police, who was drugged and sexually assaulted by the police. Other women came forward to say similar. Maybe it's a rotten police force generally?
I live in Sussex in the south-east, and have no connection to Manchester, so only going by things I've read.

TryingToSeeTheFunnySide · 28/07/2024 19:21

This is the woman I read about. Poor woman 😔

I found an old Mumsnet thread about the things I posted yesterday evening. Some very illuminating posts on there. I've concluded that GMP is a horrific institution. That's probably flattering. Those poor poor women. I believe them totally 😔

The Baird Report, published last week, an inquiry into the treatment of women by GMP. Women who have gone to seek help for domestic violence and found themselves arrested, stripped, locked up and otherwise mistreated. Have a look at it. It will disgust you. It won't surprise many.

I just googled it, and what I read made me feel physically sick.
A culture of misogyny, violence and cruelty in GMP. So, possibly racism too. To humiliate and degrade already abused women - it's psychopathic.
This needs to be shouted from the rooftops!
Those poor poor women. I can only imagine how violated they felt, how they still feel. It makes me feel I need to become much more active for women's rights - we've still got such a long way to go haven't we? 😔

Bringing up what other police forces do in other countries changes nothing. Are we supposed to be grateful and excuse what happened?

It's perfectly clear that the men attacked the police just as it's clear the officer stamped on the head on a suspect who was already securely incapacitated.

Police aren't judge. Police observe the law. It's not their job to dish instant "justice"

Police are certainly meant to observe the law. Clearly they often don't

Is leading article on the BBC website not a lot of coverage?
