I still don’t really understand why he is not being treated like any other member of the public who had done the same thing. Regardless of whether I was being robbed or assaulted, I would not get away with kicking someone’s head in and then trying to stamp on it. With heavy boots, that is at least GBH, if not attempted murder. And I wouldn’t have the benefit of 3 colleagues and be armed with a baton, pepper spray and a taser.
I would be locked in a cell to cool off, then several hours later interviewed under caution. Then, probably, I would be released under police bail, although they may decide to hold me pending trial.
He is arranging an interview under caution with the IOPC. Far, far too cosy.
Unless they want a repeat of the Stephen Lawrence riots next week (weather is ideal rioting weather), they need to treat this policeman as an alleged criminal and get him up in front of a court where he can plead his innocence.
