I still don’t really understand why he is not being treated like any other member of the public who had done the same thing. Regardless of whether I was being robbed or assaulted, I would not get away with kicking someone’s head in and then trying to stamp on it. With heavy boots, that is at least GBH, if not attempted murder. And I wouldn’t have the benefit of 3 colleagues and be armed with a baton, pepper spray and a taser.

I would be locked in a cell to cool off, then several hours later interviewed under caution. Then, probably, I would be released under police bail, although they may decide to hold me pending trial.

He is arranging an interview under caution with the IOPC. Far, far too cosy.

Unless they want a repeat of the Stephen Lawrence riots next week (weather is ideal rioting weather), they need to treat this policeman as an alleged criminal and get him up in front of a court where he can plead his innocence.

newnamethanks · 26/07/2024 19:42

Fully agree. He should be arrested and charged. You'd think Manchester Police have a bad enough reputation without trying to add to it.

newnamethanks · 26/07/2024 19:44

C4 news did an expose on IOPC just last night, so I know what to expect from them.

Abhannmor · 26/07/2024 23:38

Any sign of that bodycam footage yet? I suppose they could charge that officer and then say it is sub judice.

It's different because you would have Police Officers arrested all day everyday. The Police have to baton, taser, pepper spray, push, grab, handcuff people etc etc everyday. If a member of the public did most of the things Police do on a daily basis, they would be arrested, and questioned.

The policy of how we deal with Police officer is different because we expect them to go in and use violence.

newnamethanks · 27/07/2024 08:39

They may use violence if felt necessary. They may NOT use excessive, unnecessary, violence on someone who has already been safely restrained. Pure sadism.

I don't remember any rioting after the murder of Stephen Lawrence? Protests, but no riots that I can recall?

Abhannmor · 27/07/2024 09:08

@IClaudine perhaps confusing with Mark Duggan? Though that happened much later.

Yes, I suspect so.

Don’t assault women
Don’t assault armed officers
Dont fuck about in airports

Edited

@Peterbeardwy

Well, indeed.

This man was entirely the author of his misfortune.

All will be revealed - or not - when we see the body cam footage. Until then all we know for certain is a police officer kicked a defenceless man in the head repeatedly. His colleagues tried to stop witnesses who objected to this by trying to steal their phones from them , spraying them with pepper and pushing them away. All else is hearsay and speculation.

Every time the Police use force, it might not be necessary. The people who have forced used on them don't think necessary most of the time. They regularly claim they've been assaulted. If we did treat police like the public, cops making arrests would regularly be arrested.

There are scenarios where the kick could be deemed reasonable and necessary.

Maybe the pp was thinking of Mark Duggan?

newnamethanks · 27/07/2024 18:10

No, @whatnow123, There are no circumstances in which it is ever reasonable and/or necessary to kick someone in the head if he is lying, hands tied, supine, on the ground. None whatsoever. At all. Ever.

User135644 · 27/07/2024 18:44

If you start a fight with armed police in an airport, you're not a 'victim' of anything, whatever happens. Absolute stupidity.

He was lucky not to get shot (video released today adds more context).

newnamethanks · 27/07/2024 18:46

C4 news reporting extensively now into abuse of power by Greater Manchester Police, Baird Report. Women, you will be repulsed. Unsurprised but repulsed and furious.

PoopedAndScooped · 27/07/2024 18:50

Can you upload videos to here?

Iv just seen the video in full and its a very very different story

whatnow123 · 27/07/2024 18:54

So these two have assaulted brutally three cops. Jumped and put a firearms officer in a chokehold from behind.

I can fully understand the actions of the firearms officer. It looks like he is about to get up, I doubt in that moment he even knew he had been tased.

The officer who has been suspended deserves a full apology and reinstatement

Suspended whilst an independent investigation is undertaken is still appropriate, he lost control when the guy was restrained which isn't something an armed officer should do (or any officer).

It was obvious there was more to it, and surprise surprise the video shows exactly what the statement the police initially put out said. I'm curious as to why it seems the 2 violent grifters haven't been arrested? Breaking a female officers nose on its own is surely an offense?

They'll be too scared of the mob.
