@hattie43 but it was under control already - the kicks were just because he lost his temper, I don't want police that can't control their tempers or think that the law doesn't apply to them

I think they were just steaming to the event and did what they thought necessary to contain the situation. It's easy in hindsight from your armchair to criticise but I am very thankful they will take control quickly no matter how that happens .

Jmaho · 25/07/2024 18:46

Well in lots of other countries including many European countries, you start shit in an airport you'd be shot dead. No question.
But as usual violent lawless trouble makers start trouble, get hurt then blame the police and pull the race card. And morons support them. The law is the law. Abide by it or fuck off
I don't need to worry about police violence as I don't break the law.
The situation would have been exactly the same if it was a bunch of white blokes causing trouble and assaulting female officers. Except for the protests of course.

Nice emotive language in that article.
Funny I’ve never caused trouble in an airport and I’ve never been assaulted- wonder if the two are linked.

SaltySpicy · 25/07/2024 18:48

You don’t have to break the law to become a victim of police brutality.

materialgworl · 25/07/2024 19:01

thankfully the law exists to question police for they also aren't above said law - because they are human prone to mistakes like everybody else.

So you’ve never in your life as a teenager done anything stupid? Are you so superior?

Tennagers are notorious idiots (I certainly was) nothing they did condones a grown man kicking a teenager in the head causing a brain cyst. Nothing.

I think someone of the people on here are actual psychopaths. Or police officers. One and the same it seems.

OneBadKitty · 25/07/2024 19:35

So you’ve never in your life as a teenager done anything stupid? Are you so superior?

Nothing that 19 year old did was within the realms of 'stupid teenage behaviour'. Being involved in violent assault, causing affray and public disorder at an airport which required armed police to attend and arrest you is way beyond. 19 year olds are adults.

So you’re saying that he deserved to be kicked in the head with such force it caused a brain cyst? Because that is truly vile if that’s how your brain works.

Nowhere in the law says it's ok to kick(or shoot) a man that is down and no threat. Yes the law is the law , and police officers should be expected to act within the law. Not kick people when it's not needed because they lost their cool or whatever.

I've been harassed as a teenager by a police officer for crossing on the wrong part of the street. Stopping me, or even a fine would've been fair enough. He had to make it about how I looked and I was dressed, implying I was a prostitute and he was checking that the car that stopped for all two seconds for me to cross wasn't a client(in the middle of the day on a populated road)The language and attitude were vile. Then he wanted to follow me home so I could show him ID and prove who I am. Yeah, right.

Sometimes people fuck up. Sometimes people are criminals. Sometimes people are vile. That doesn't give free rein to the police to behave just as bad.

Exactly. Being a police officer unfortunately doesn't equal being a law abiding citizen anymore. We have seen countless bloody stories of police officers being involved in or committing vile crimes recently. It's no wonder people don't trust them really is it.

As a woman I'd be quite wary of a lone male police officer now, which is very sad because the vast majority of them are probably perfectly lovely and very good at their jobs.

Scarletttulips · 25/07/2024 20:53

I don’t think not getting into trouble with the police makes anyone ‘superior’ so don’t make out it’s unusual! Most teens are well behaved and don’t cause trouble. It’s not a right of passage.

And if you read that artical, which is how the family are traumatized, can’t go to work, feel victimized?

Not much sympathy for the young lad and his injuries.

Kendodd · 25/07/2024 21:01

How did this even all kick off?
You're at the airport, I assume you're going somewhere. Then a while later, you've assaulted the police and you're on the ground being kicked in the head? WTF? How does all that happen. I'm guessing they didn't all go to the airport (with their mum) to have a fight (?) How do you go from waiting for a plane to this?

I in no way excuse the head kicking, but I see the brothers are milking the incident. I bet they end up with a massive payout because of this and if the do, I hope the officers they assaulted (and didn't assault them) sue them and get any money they win off them.

Jellykat · 25/07/2024 21:05

The victim was on the floor having been tasered, he wasnt a threat at that point, so how was stamping on his head appropriate?

From what I’ve read the man was with his family. (Brothers and mum) Another group were hitting with trolleys. They brothers confronted this group and a fight started. Police was called in and this is when everything kicked off even more.

Edited

I'm guessing it was another group of young men. And how did a police woman end up being assaulted in all this?

He's not milking much from his hospital bed is he?

He said the man - named by the lawyer as Fahir - was found to have a cyst on his brain after a CT scan following the incident.
Mr Yakoob - who is also representing Fahir's brother Amaad and their elderly mother - added Fahir's condition had worsened overnight and said that he was "fighting for his life".

SprinkleOfSunak · 25/07/2024 21:30

If you assault the police you should expect to receive the same back in my opinion.

How are they supposed to be able to protect the general public if they’re being violently assaulted themselves? These two, and possibly others, had been fighting in a public place - they hadn’t been behaving like angels.

We also don’t know what had been said, or what threats if any, were being made by these people, or if they had been goading the police before this happened.

Possibly. During the assault.

This is such a wildly uneducated view. Obviously I do not condone attacking police, but it’s what they sign up for. They know exactly what some people do when confronted with police.

Do you think the police should just be able to shoot someone because they are being difficult??

Police are meant to diffuse and prevent situations like this, they are highly trained in forceful subduing in situations like this.

Not one officer has been trained to kick someone in the head when they are the floor. He did it because he is vile and probably has the same mindset as you. Neither of you should be in any position of power.

newnamethanks · 25/07/2024 22:18

Police will have bodycam footage of the initial incident, whatever it may have been. It is unlikely that the
offending officer will lose his job but he won't be on firearms any longer. He's a danger to the public and to his fellow officers. Someone so reactive isnt safe to be around guns. Let's see what happens to him in court. What? He hasn't been arrested? He will be. Nobody has licence to behave like that.

Rightly so.
