Oh well.

The guy assaulted 3 police officers resulting in one female officer having her nose broken, to be honest I think the force was pretty fair.

No. Officers are not thugs.
The suspect was retained and tasered so was not a threat. Under no circumstances should he have been brutally assaulted like this.

I'm glad he has been suspended and hopefully sacked.

The police force are known to be inherent liers and experts at covering up.
This requires an Independent investigation.
I would like to see videos of the suspect been violent.
I doubt they exist.
Why did they have to get an Asian officer to make a statement. It is all orchestrated which makes it suspicious.

Why didn't the Chief Constable Steve Watson make the statement?
You can count on one hand the number of Senior Asian officer at the GMP.
It helps with PR to let the Asian officer deliver the statement I suppose.
Greater Manchester Police have been heavily criticized in the past.they are not fit for purpose.

Shame on you Greater Manchester Police.

Since when does robust policing mean stamping on someone’s head when they’re already being held on the ground?
**
Since when do clueless entitled twits whine at criminal thugs getting exactly what they deserve.

Criminal thugs deserve to be detained in an appropriate manner by highly trained professionals and taken through the criminal justice system.

They do not deserve to be kicked multiple times and have their head stamped on with steel toe capped boots when those highly trained professionals have already restrained them.

If you believe that is not a reasonable expectation in a civilised society and that those who believe it is are “entitled”, I sincerely hope that you are never arrested.

The officer involved needs further training and possibly anger management.

I would be inclined to attack someone who had hurt a friend/colleague but I am not a trained, armed (I think?) officer.

He needs to be sacked.
Further training my backside.

People defending police brutality are like infants believing in goodies and baddies. It must not occur to them how easy it is to fall foul of the law, for identities to be mistaken and innocent people wrongly convicted of crimes they did not commit. They’re also not thinking through the implications of having emotionally dysregulated officers on duty with or around firearms.

I guess those justifying it have missed the news that racism played a big part on what happened

How do you know this? The investigation hasn't been concluded yet and just because ethnic minorities are blaming it on racism doesn't mean it was.

The people arrested were obviously not nice law abiding citizens otherwise armed police wouldn't have been called in the first place.

The footage is shocking and I don't think there is any justification for gratuitous violence from the police. They need to remain professional which must be a hell of a task when faced people who have total disregard for them. However, I hope the culprits on both sides get what they deserve.

Former chief superintendent of the Met Police, Dal Babu, told BBC Radio 4 the police actions were "appalling and unnecessary" and in his opinion racism played a part in the incident.
He said the men were arrested for affray and assault, not offences at the “serious end” like attempted murder, gross bodily harm, or malicious wounding.

Although the whole situation is chaotic and violent police officers are highly trained in conflict management, this officer's reaction was shocking, out of control and unnecessarily excessive.
The perpetrator was on the ground, face down and no longer a viable threat when the officer brutally kicked and stomped him!

Oblomov24 · 25/07/2024 14:23

I'm struggling to think of circumstances to justify this. He was violent before and injured 3 police officers, including breaking a policewoman's nose?

Right. But....
At the time he's lying on the floor, hand behind back? one in/un-uniformed officer holding a taser gun to him. The other kicks his head, then stamps on his head. What on earth could justify that? Irrespective of what he has done before?

OneBadKitty · 25/07/2024 14:23

That is just Dal Babu's opinion though, not fact! He wasn't there, he doesn't even work for the police any more and hasn't for a long time- he's a commentator for The Guardian.

materialgworl · 25/07/2024 14:26

kicking someone in head = robust policing?

The Guardian- that speaks volumes 🙄

No doubt he has an axe to grind!

I hate MN when things like this happen. White privilege truly restricts some of your thinking! I promise, you do not need a formal enquiry to confirm racism...

materialgworl · 25/07/2024 14:30

Suddenly you trust the police officers...the same ones who recently ...never mind actually

Newbutoldfather · 25/07/2024 15:06

I must say I am really surprised about how many on this forum think police vigilantism is great.

It worries me how easily we could turn into a police state.

The whole purpose of the police is to find and arrest suspected criminals with the MINIMUM necessary force and then leave punishment to the court and prison system.

kerstina · 25/07/2024 12:21

If people have a bit of sympathy for the police officer losing his cool . It is because I think people are getting so fed up of continuous anti social violent behaviour especially when it is aimed at people who are trying to protect us . FFS no one will want to do the job the way it’s going.

People need to know you can't fuck with the police. The liberals have had it their own way for too long and society has been wrecked.

I find the thought of people thinking that the police should be allowed to beat up suspects terrifying.

Force to subdue someone? Yes
Kicking a handcuffed person the floor? No.
Where would it end? Shooting him on the leg perhaps?

Where it always ends. With a case like Sonja Massey's. Having said that I have witnessed some brilliant policing of difficult situations. It can be done but you have to weed out the 'headers'

toastedcrumpetsrock · 25/07/2024 17:18

There is no scenario in my mind that makes it ok for an officer of the law to be so violent towards someone who has clearly already been subdued- I would be really scared of what someone like that could do behind closed doors. He obviously thinks he's above the law.
I am in absolute disbelief that anyone feels this is ok let alone the amount of you that seem to.

@hattie43 but it was under control already - the kicks were just because he lost his temper, I don't want police that can't control their tempers or think that the law doesn't apply to them
