4 young children stabbed in Annecy

I looked for a thread on this but couldn't see one.

I'm absolutely shocked and sickened at this attack on these helpless babies.

I can't imagine what the mother/minder of the baby who was stabbed multiple times in their pushchair is feeling and I so hope the two babies who are critical pull through.

Just awful :( :(

Reading these kinds of stories really affect me. I have a 3.5 yr old and a 18month old and I just want to scoop them up and protect them forever.

I don't get the "in the name of Jesus Christ". Jesus Christ would never want this.

He was in the militant wing of the Salvation Army, just like all the others.

LangsNot · 08/06/2023 19:10

I honestly don't get why when some people commit a crime, it's all about who/what they are. Who cares whether he's an asylum seeker, refugee, white, brown, black, grey, he stabbed children and adults. Anyone of any background can do that and have done so.

Unless it becomes established that this was motivated by his hatred of French nationals, then I don't see what his status has to do with it. He's a criminal and possibly a murderer.

His medical record also hasn't been published so I am not going towards his mental state yet.

(Corrected this bit.)

Just saw it too, and I also have a nearly 3 year old and a 4 month old who have both just fallen asleep and all I thought reading it was those poor babies should be in their beds too 😞

AlwaysGinPlease · 08/06/2023 19:17

@Hoppinggreen crack on then

Yiayoula · 08/06/2023 19:18

Whatever nationality, creed , colour , religious persuasion (or indeed none at all) this creature has , I’m very glad he was quickly captured .
And I hope the Annecy police are dealing with him appropriately….

@Hoppinggreen crack on then

Thank you, I will

What a despicable man, going for toddlers and the elderly.

Really, really hoping the victims can pull through. I can't stop thinking about the poor parents of those children.

I don't understand what you mean @BethDuttonsTwin

Do you not think that similarities in unprovoked attacks in countries such as France - who do experience more than most, should be acknowledged and explored?

Possibly, what exactly do you think should be explored?
What similarities in particular are you looking at?

Indeed. The thread questioning the lack of discussion of the attempted murders of multiple defenceless toddlers, on this PARENTING site was deleted within 10 minutes, with several accusations of Islamophobia and hyperbole being tossed about. Interestingly though the anonymous YANBU votes were in the lead just prior to deletion. This incident happened almost 8 hours ago, yet only now has anyone else thought to create a thread. Almost as though people are too scared to discuss these matters at all, for fear of not discussing them in The Correct Way…

I agree. It needs discussion though because with our porous borders we look forward to a future of increasing frequency of these types
of attacks.

Unprovoked knife or indeed any other attacks on citizens going about their daily business in European countries. The patterns. Who is doing it, why they claim to be doing it. Where they’re from etc etc.

Why are we pretending there are no similarities? Why is attempting to discuss them being met with the implication there is an underlying bigotry in the attempts to discuss? I genuinely find it ludicrous that we have to pussy foot round like this.

It’s impossible to discuss. As you can see from this thread any attempts to do so are met with pretence of not understanding or accusations of racism or sly insinuation. So cowardly.

He apparently committed benefit fraud in Sweden so was not granted full residency so went to France to try there, where he was again unsuccessful. Apparently he’s been divorced from his Swedish wife for four months.

I will try to find a link.

Imagine my shock!

sathletdown · 08/06/2023 19:46

i was there yesterday. I had an appointment at the prefecture which is right next to this park- i nearly decided to move it to today because a road closure was making me late…. For some reason i didn’t. After the prefecture we were in that park for 2 hours, we ate lunch where he was running from gendarmes, my children were playing on the slide from the video… it’s a super safe place, i left my 15 month old in their pram asleep at the side of the park whilst the other two played- all i can think now is if i had decided to go today it would be a totally different story.

I know. Clamping down on discussion in public forums doesn’t make people’s private thoughts disappear. Censorship is only creating a tinder box and a lot of people are angrier than they let on.

Indeed. Just about pretending people are racist when they express perfectly reasonable concerns. Quite disgusting actually.

I agree, being mentally ill doesn’t absolve him of this awful crime
My thoughts are with the victims and their families

Which part of my post here suggests I don’t care about the victims?
The part where I say being mentally ill doesn’t absolve the perpetrator or the part where I say my thoughts are with the victims and their families?

The R word is losing its power, like the boy who cried wolf. A more accurate R word is “Realism” mixed with a dose of lived experience and pattern recognition.

I haven’t accused anyone of racism on this post, if I had I would quite rightly have been deleted
I also haven’t called anyone names either

Well I can remember some right wing neo nazi who killed a whole bunch of kids on an island in Norway or Sweden a few years back. There was that Moat guy to shot known and random people in his village up north. There was someone who stabbed a couple of gay men in a park and some attacks on an emo girl. Nope. Struggling to see what similarities you are alluding to. Other than all the perpetrators were possibly unstable.

Him being an asylum seeker has everything to do with this. He was due to be deported back to Syria and now he won’t be. Potential motive.
