Missing Woman Nicola Bulley 8

Here's the new thread

My phone is playing up. I wrote a FAQ and then it crashed and I lost it all.

I'm also dealing with a child on the spectrum who is bouncing off the walls this evening so I apologise for not being around much.

VERY interesting news

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/02/12/forensic-expert-offers-carry-hunt-nicola-bulley-away-river/

Forensic expert offers to carry on hunt for Nicola Bulley away from river
Peter Faulding says he is privately consulting with 45-year-old’s family about carrying out land search for her

“There is lots of odd stuff here. If she isn't found then I would say something is not right. Police officers have been ringing saying they agree with me, this is an odd one. The police divers are very professional, they would have found her that day. There is no reason she would disappear. She was happy”.

This isn't going to endear him to Lancs Constabulary is it. I wonder if he means police officers from Lancs, or those who he works with on a day to day basis, or just other officers around the country.

Interesting what he says in the article about Nicola being cautious and never going near the edge of the river.

I bet lancashire police are furious. Oh well, at least the family get their search

I think it goes back to that discussion we had a few days ago about either wanting all the help you can get and being completely open to that, or wanting a close knit "us only" approach.

I know which I'd prefer. And if the police aren't going to do it, then why not have someone else come in and do it instead.

Yup, I'd be doing everything in my power, no doubt about it.
Fair play to them.

@Goldpaw the police did cordon off the area and a forensic team was brought down to assess the area. It was cordoned off for a couple of days. After they did the searches etc the area was then reopened.

It is a public space, they couldn't keep is sealed off. But forensics were done within the first 24hrs.

Now I just need to remember exactly where I read/heard that. It was either via the Channel 5 programme, or it was the YouTube interview with Peter Faulding. If I find it, I will link here.

If they get the land search they want then I think it's worth it.
Doesn't look like the police are going to do one

As usual he's making it about him.

There's no way the police aren't covering their arses and doing things a bit beyond 'by the book' on this. He's just glory-hunting.

He may possibly be successful in whatever he does, but its actual purpose is his glory-hunting.

Possible but I'd still take him up on his offer if it were me.

I thought it was only corderned off later on? Didn't they say it was to protect the divers or something?

Could she have arranged to meet a boat there and sailed off?

I agree. Just don't credit him with grand altruistic motives.

Only if it could go over a weir in 2 feet of water.

Doubtful since search dinghies got stuck it was so shallow.

LikeTearsInRain · 13/02/2023 00:23

Why did they have ‘divers’ searching for days if it was so shallow then?

There are bits which are deep, particularly on bends, but stretches where the whole river width is very shallow.

There are some deep bits and a lot of fairly shallow parts. Divers because outside the very shallow parts they would need people to stick their heads under the water for searching.

Some of the photos etc. of them show them in the river just wading around in shallow water.

pigsinoodies · 13/02/2023 00:28

They use specialist divers to search canals and ponds less than 5ft deep.

This is from the article about Peter F coming back.

Lancashire Police has been facing questions over its handling of the investigation and Philip Flower, an ex-Metropolitan Police superintendent, said faith in the police risked being lost forever if the search was bungled.

Writing for The Mail on Sunday, he said that officers may have made mistakes by failing to tape off the area where her phone was found. He said he was not the only person to suggest that the facts and evidence did not support the official hypothesis.

This seems to imply no search, no cordon.

And Superintendent Riley seemed a bit hesitant about cordons when she was talking about it in an interview.

So I'm assuming because the police haven't made it a crime scene, Peter Faulding can just do his land search where he likes, as long as its not on private land?
The family must be so grateful to him

Not sure what the scope is or how rigorous or effective it is to search non private land?

I suppose the family will take any help right now though.
Who knows, it might spur the police into action too.

If this guy is going to do a land search then surely he can just ask people if it’s possible to search their outbuildings/property etc. If they have nothing to hide then surely they will agree. Then they can take note of who doesn’t agree/property not searched so if at some point the police do get warrants they can start with those

Well I can't see how the police could stop him asking 🤷
It's going to be really interesting to see what the police do now.

Is there anyone on this thread who actually lives in the area/been to the bench to look?
