Here's the new thread

My phone is playing up. I wrote a FAQ and then it crashed and I lost it all.

I'm also dealing with a child on the spectrum who is bouncing off the walls this evening so I apologise for not being around much.

If this guy is going to do a land search then surely he can just ask people if it’s possible to search their outbuildings/property etc. If they have nothing to hide then surely they will agree. Then they can take note of who doesn’t agree/property not searched so if at some point the police do get warrants they can start with those

Surely our legal system evolved to have a warrant system for searches in order to protect individual members of the public?

Why would anyone suggest it’s a good idea that people should feel obliged to allow a random into their home to search it.

It doesn’t mean they have something to hide - it means they have agency cover their own property.

@Goldpaw annoyingly I just can't find it. I've watched various things but also clicked on videos within news website- so bit looking for a needle in a haystack.

I remember hearing it because I thought to myself- oh well that's good and yeah I guess they can't keep a place cordoned off. I listen to alot of stuff via my headphones and not always watching my phone even if it's a video.

Person was saying - the area was cordoned off the day it happened. Forensic teams came down and divers went in. The ground forensic search team didn't find anything - think this team were the team who also confirmed no slip marks into the river. The area was sealed during this forensic search. But was re-opened again because it's a public area. Its possible that SI Riley said it when answering questions after the press conference. But I just can't be sure.

I get it, if I can't link to it - you can't take my word for it. If I do come across is again. Will link it. I definitely heard it but can't verify the source and maybe the source wasn't even credible.

urbanbuddha · 13/02/2023 02:43

I don’t think it was cordoned off early on. I remember thinking “Why on earth haven’t they cordoned it off?” looking at a picture of the bench taken from the other side of the river. That was the first picture of the area that I saw. The first day.

A vigilante is a self-appointed citizens who undertakes law enforcement in their community without legal authority, typically because the legal agencies are thought to be inadequate.

Peter Faulding is a vigilante.

This is the camera at Rowanwater that looks over the upper field, that isn't working.
It really would have caught it all wouldn't it.

This IS obsessive. There is absolutely nothing newsworthy about sharing a photo of a camera. Nothing. It's just salacious.

hopewithoutpanic · 13/02/2023 07:17

Is there anyone on this thread that remains of the view that the most obvious outcome is likely to be the correct one. That NB went in the water.

The water is right there. The lead was found very close by. She didn't have time to grab her phone before probably heading over the the waters edge to stop(?) Wlllow going in.

All these theories are quite far fetched and unlikely. Surely she went into the water and will sadly be much further out / away by now.

I do.

Is there anyone on this thread who actually lives in the area/been to the bench to look?

Why?

Crumpetdisappointment · 13/02/2023 07:28

i believe she went into the water, one way or another.
i hope her body turns up sooner rather than later

@7eleven and how will you feel if they are in fact something to do with it. No one knows either way right now do they.

Personally I'd feel fine for assuming that they are just keeping their faces warm in the winter until I am told by the police otherwise. I didn't see them myself so no idea if they were "creepy" or what.

plumduck · 13/02/2023 07:31

urbanbuddha · 12/02/2023 22:23

Read the article. The witness actually says it wasn’t cold that day. That’s why it struck him as odd.

It was "mild" it was January. They could have been up early when it was cold. They could have thought oh it might get cold.

Or yes it could have been suspicious.

I'm not saying the witness was wrong to report it. They have suspicions. Just that it could be all innocent and we won't know until the police investigate it.

melonraspberry · 13/02/2023 07:38

I wondered why PF hadn’t carried on with a land search when he had concluded she wasn’t in the river . Maybe he had offered but PA has been trying to balance things a bit and not destroy relations with the police too much.

As regards the camera, it would be interesting to know why it doesn’t work. The police must know whether it’s been tampered with - presumably not as that might be enough to trigger a criminal investigation.

It is obsessive. And warped. Theres something very wrong with these people to not realise they’re not overstepping or to not care.

StillDoingDumbShit · 13/02/2023 07:41

Could well be innocent but 9 days to even speak to the person who saw them and only when they chased that up is shocking. Far easier to identify people and therefore be able to rule them out sooner rather than later

Oaktree55 · 13/02/2023 07:47

We don’t know if drowning was what’s happened but it’s a good opportunities to know what to do especially as in U.K. water can be cold even in summer. These threads have highlighted how people don’t realise that any water can be dangerous however it appears:

Experts have stated it's very unlikely she'd get washed far though given the conditions on the day and the fact the divers were on the scene extremely promptly. I'd say being out at sea is equally far fetched given what we've been told

I do agree that the most obvious outcome is that she ended up in the water. But she hasn’t been found in the water, and considering the conditions and the resource, she should have been. The police started saying she could have been washed out to sea which is so vanishingly unlikely it made them seem incompetent. The next most likely is the one that people find most unpalatable, and in any case appears to have been ruled out by the police who will have been all over it from day one, ruled it out first in fact. So that leaves harm by a stranger. Which is unlikely but not more unlikely than falling into shallow slow moving water and disappearing from the face of the earth within a few minutes. On balance I think she’s probably in the water and some sort of freak circumstances mean she hasn’t been found. I hope they find her soon, not knowing must be the worst thing for her family to endure.

I haven't got a theory, or hypothesis.

I believe the police must have concrete evidence that Nicola was in the water.

But I also am concerned that they still haven't found her, and if there has been criminal involvement - I think it's natural to be concerned, especially as a woman.

I had a frightening encounter with a man not that long ago near my home when I was out running alone, so I know there are bad people out there and how quickly life can turn from normal to nightmare.

BreadBaking321 · 13/02/2023 08:00

I hope this woman gets found, what a sad, strange, unusual and interesting case.

I am finding the moralising mob slapping posters who want to discuss NB's disappearance down and the constant personal attacks quite disturbing. They do have an unusual posting style and I can't quite remember any other MN threads with this sort of concerted antagonistic and aggressive effort to shut a discussion down.

liveforsummer · 13/02/2023 08:03

I believe the police must have concrete evidence that Nicola was in the water.

Surely if they did they'd have told at least her family that - even if they couldn't disclose exactly what the evils is. (Not sure why if no criminality suspected) The family however seem to be doubting the theory too.

It’s probably one or two people sock puppeting . Best ignored.

So many women have had this kind of experience (I am including myself here), and that's one of the reasons there has been a groundswell of concern over the disappearance of 'school mum' Nicola Bulley, I would say.

During my career I have had many reasons to work with the police, and if I might be diplomatic here - we all have feet of clay.

So what are the top theories at the moment?
