Here's the new thread

My phone is playing up. I wrote a FAQ and then it crashed and I lost it all.

I'm also dealing with a child on the spectrum who is bouncing off the walls this evening so I apologise for not being around much.

Just watched a clip of PF on GB News saying the undergrowth hasn’t been flattened which shows there has been no real land search in the area .

He can't quite grasp that he's not the police and he doesn't know what's going on can he?

He's talking about checking for a burial. A burial that apparently took place in about 10 minutes in broad daylight, with the dog of the person buried let loose in the same area.

The man's a dick.

They haven't (?) 'got' analysed the fitbit data or have they?

In the press conference they said:

"This includes Nicola's Fitbit and her mobile phone, which has been fully examined"

[What does this mean?].

I assume it’s from triangulation of the phone signal etc and I was wondering if the phone can also tell you if it’s moving or stationary (they have internal compasses and gyroscopes I think which maybe can give that kind of information?)

I am pretty sure that a lot can be gleaned and 'movement' sn't something people tend to think of, but it can help build a picture I am sure.

As to the 'fitbit' I am not sure what they can usefully glean or otherwise? Ditto Mercedes keys?

Springer spaniel puppies start at about £800

The lockdown bubble in dog prices is firmly consigned to history. But even when raging, there were very, very few muggings for dogs (thefts were usually from homes esp gardens, from vehicles and from kennels)

I really can't see anyone dognapping a springer spaniel based on their value.

A possible burial wouldn't have to take place in 10 minutes though. A body would just need to be moved out of sight.

I'd love to know who the anonymous friend is. Someone MUST have said it to the mirror, surely the paper wouldn't make the whole thing up.
Not saying its true but its such a strange thing for the anonymous friend to say.

I don’t know if they’d make that up but one of the things that happened to us was that a paper did make stuff up. I guess for clicks. It got repeated by pretty much every U.K. paper and quite a few international ones. I don’t really know how far they’d go. Things being taken off Twitter and being quoted as an anonymous source or close friends also happened so who knows where the Mirror might have got it from.

Without being too graphic it’s mid winter. If your want to bury your pet at present you’d need to dig a very deep hole to prevent foxes disturbing etc. I think he’s talking 💩

That's awful
Today shows how it happens too.
One paper saw a tweet that police were at the caravan park so they wrote a story saying police were 'searching'. Now, every newspaper has copied the story even though it wasn't true.

So move a body out of sight, with a loose dog in the same area? And then what?

And what would be the advantage of doing that compared with dumping a body in the river?

He's specifically talking about buried bodies anyway. Like a newly-dug grave in winter isn't an obvious thing.

He's an attention-seeking self-publicist and he deserves to lose any contracts his company has with the police.

To me it did read as if the 'anonymous friend' had taken It all from Twitter or Facebook. Or the Mirror had taken it from posts from the 'anonymous friend'.

@pigsinoodies I agree. I had respect for his work but he seems to have become addicted to publicity.

I do have respect for his work, but no more than I have for the work of the police. My problem with him is that his quest for publicity is causing problems for the police and for the people involved in the case. The family have obviously swallowed the 'great white hunter' story willingly and he's raised their expectations just to further his own image.

In the Alex Murdaugh case, they are using the iPhones ability to know if it is portrait or landscape to determine when the murders took place.

Jolou86 · 13/02/2023 22:38

I’ve been on mumsnet for a long time and never posted before but I have followed a few of these NB threads, as a women a wife and a mother this case has truly touched my heart 💛 I think we can all only hope and pray for her, her family 💛 and her safe return 💛

AuntieStella · 13/02/2023 22:40

Nicola took that route most days I believe?

Not according to Strava. A lot of the time it was once a week (varying days), sometimes twice, and she walked in other places too, and sometimes not at all.

And some days she ran (various routes) either in addition to or instead of walking.

So yes, these were the fields where she walked most often (and at about the same time of day) and perhaps if you knew her in RL you might know that she was there more often than she logged (nothing logged publicly since 7 November). But unless there was something further on FB, I'm not sure we can conclude with certainty that she was there most days.

He’s completely shameless. I’m actually shocked at this point, I wonder what the ramifications will be for his interference, future public-funded work-wise.

@ofwarren

you live in the area right ? (or did I get that confused with another poster)

what’s the feeling of other women in the village?
is their concerns with others for their own safety going out and about for example

pigsinoodies · 13/02/2023 22:45

I've been saying this since he first opened his gob. I'm certain the entire police community are furious at his unprofessional behaviour.

No, I used to live in the area
There is a poster who does live there but she's not been on the threads recently.

Oh yes I remember now she was upset and bowed out

it would be interesting to know how the local community of women feel there while this is going on without any news of what’s happened to Nicola

MucozadeOnLucozade · 13/02/2023 22:56

If she is buried locally, what was the motive to just quickly murder and bury her? This doesn't add up.

WarningToTheCurious · 13/02/2023 22:57

If the dog already had string attached to her collar, could someone have tried to snatch her whilst Nicola was occupied with the Teams call, Nicola chased after them and some kind of altercation ended up with Nicola in the river?

ImprobablePuffin · 13/02/2023 22:58

Peverellshire · 13/02/2023 21:48

They don't have the physical fitbit so have they managed to analyse the data, do we think, given the model and the info we have NB: the 'synching', or lack thereof.

Also telephony data etc can tell how the phone moved? If it fell to the ground? If its screen went from portrait to landscape, etc.

PF has said that he believes the phone to be more important than he believed at first, (?)

I can't remember the source now so I apologise but I believe there was no useful data on the Fitbit as it hadn't been synced since a week or so before Nicola went missing.

Quite. What's the point of mocking-up a river suicide scene for a body that's going to be found under a bush within days?

The man may be brilliant at the practical aspects of his job but he quite obviously overestimates his intelligence and his knowledge of subjects peripheral to his job.
