The chat appears to have gone quiet today after the last thread filled up, so I'm making a new one for anyone who wants to come together whilst we all hold our breath hoping for a good outcome.

@ofwarren you seem to know a lot about this case. If you've not already ...can you share what you believe has happened to Nicola given everything that you know? Understand if you only want to share and not speculate. I'm reading this thread backwards to catch-up!!!

Some people treat this like a game of Cleudo.

Yeah or a TV show.

I do agree with this somewhat. On TV everything ends up being resolved, usually fairly quickly and with only a few police being shown to be involved. It's not reality at all. Sadly some things never get solved, people don't always get found, there isn't always evidence that cracks the case, and amongst the masses and masses of Intel, cctv, statements and searches things do get missed. Lots do seem to want more info to settle their own curiosity/reaffirm their theories or to carry on the discussions imo. Even though its been made into a media spectacle there are some very knowledgeable people from other departments assisting the police, I think some do think they know better or point out the obvious as if 40 plus seasoned investigators wouldn't have considered something so obvious.

@ofwarren
The report I linked to quotes this: He said that the river conditions when Roger went missing 45 years ago were “pretty similar” to the conditions Nicola may have faced in the River Wyre, adding: “He was obviously swept over the weir and into the tidal part of the river.”
That implies the weir was there 45yrs ago?

I need to try and find the thing I read that mentioned the flooding and weir. It was a few threads ago now.

Goldpaw · 12/02/2023 16:26

Love how you said you would leave this thread yet here you still are responding to every reply and mention of you just because you 'receive notifications'.

Flouncers always seem to do that. I'm going now, they announce, then are back five minutes later. They accuse others of faux concern whilst using faux outrage to gain attention.

@Leizal I agree with @Jourdain11 and can assure you I am not her alias, "dear".

If this were my family member I would want people to be talking about it.

Really @Janiie? You'd want a steady stream of online obsessives with no expertise whatsoever speculating over a shadow (sorry, bruise) on your forehead?

Quite... If the poor guy really did have a bruise, there's any number of ways he might have got it. I currently have a bruise on my forehead because I walked into my bathroom door in the dark!

Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 16:27

@wordler of course, this could well be a factor. But like I've previously said we've seen that stretched of river. We've heard from an expert. The police divers were in the river the same day. It's bendy. It's quite shallow at the sides. in comparison to other rivers and it's been said by the expert its near on impossible. It's seeming more and more likely this didn't happen. And if I was her family I would and I genuinely thought she was I'm their I'd be happy others thought the same too. Until we are all proven wrong. Or they accept she is. I will continue to talk about it.

Her clothing was dark. It’s difficult to see things just below surface even when purposefully looking. I say this as someone who’s often on look out boating.

If Nicola had fallen into the water by the bench, almost unquestionably, she would have been found.

The reasons for this are twofold, 1: Police expert divers called to scene the same day 2. Extensive, consequent searching with cutting edge equipment & lots of manpower

Bodies would move very slowly and very shallow in parts.

She wasn’t ever in that part of the river, as the police tacitly admit, but remind us ‘this does not mean she was never in the water’.

Goldpaw · 12/02/2023 16:29

wordler · 12/02/2023 16:23

But they understandably want to believe there’s a chance she could still be alive. If they accept the river theory then she’s definitely dead at this point. Holding on to hope that she’s been abducted means there’s a chance she’s still alive.

I don't think they're particularly hopeful of Nicola being alive, they just don't believe she's necessarily gone into the water.

Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 16:31

@Jourdain11 apologies if I missed your reply to me asking you to contribute what you deem appropriate. I didn't see this.

Here's the one about it being in flood.

I've not read all the posts, so this may have been covered. But what have sniffer dogs found in terms of a trail ? Surely they can detect if she left the field on a specific track ?

However they died a terrible death by a random nutter whereas granted if it were two white sisters, would have received more exposure. It was very local to me hence closer to home mentally. I remember saying to friends why isn't this case on the front page everywhere. Certainly this is a terrible case, it's just they all are.

I think the terrible murder of the sisters didn’t get the coverage it should have, not because they were black but because of who the killer was.

I don’t think he was a random nutter. The women were drinking and I think it upset his sensibilities. Like the poor men who were murdered in the other London park.

Local news from around the country over the last few years has many such cases of “random” hit and runs and such. Rather than larger massacres, I think the focus is now on taking people out by making it look like an “accident”.

That article does mention “over the weir” about the case 45 years ago. When was the weir built?

I think they'd have had to bring them in fairly promptly to determine that - at what stage in the timeline have the sniffer dogs been used?

Do we know where the account that willow was going from the bench to the gate comes from initially?

Yes, I think it being in flood makes it quite different. That would turn it into a fast flowing river wherever you were in it.

Not like two weeks ago when it was almost a millpond above the weir.

Possibly then
I'm trying to find where it was mentioned
Hard with there being 7 threads.

It's not on the 1967 map. It's irrelevant though. It's only a low weir and the water can rise over 4m when the river's high.

Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 16:44

@ofwarren I don't have a dog, but I wonder anyone who does, would this be a telling sign? That she wasn't reported sniffing around the waters edge? Not necessarily because of where she last saw her, but more where she can smell her?

Sounds about as sensible as murdering a bunch of people in the hopes of getting 72 virgins? 🤷🏽‍♀️

I'm scrabbling around in the old posts on the other threads!

I've always had the view that the police know what they are doing and but the fact that they are not correcting falsely shared information is making me doubt this.

I had heard that Nicola's keys were in the car so I am shocked to find out that they were on her when she disappeared. This should be shared in case anyone finds them. If I came across a Mercedes key I wouldn't ring the police but I would now if I knew what her keyring looked like.

The police have never said that the keys were in the car. Others have but clearly based on nothing. They don't have to tell us about the keys unless they feel it is relevant and there may be reasons why they haven't been mentioned.

Shewasnthere · 12/02/2023 16:50

@Renoir56 this is exactly why I have stopped looking on FB because there is so much going around about all sorts that you end up not knowing your arse from your elbow. So much misinformation. I've found posts on here from main posters much more useful and there's also less BS
