Please tell us the remarks on the AA page for those of us who aren't members?

CatkinToadflax · 05/08/2022 07:56

For anyone reading this who works in PICU or NICU - I just want to say the most enormous thank you. DS1 was born 4 months prematurely and was in NICU for 120 days. We nearly lost him on multiple occasions. We came so so close to having that conversation. I will never forget the nurses and doctors who cared for him so expertly and compassionately, saving his life many times. He’s nearly 17 now. We are so grateful for everything you all do.

"Just like any other body part really, swelling can cut circulation, but unlike other body parts, the brain cannot swell much before this happens and the pressure would need to be relieved (if thats even possible) by making holes in the skull, letting blood out if there is a haematoma, putting in shunts etc... AFAIK and, I am not a doctor, you can't relieve the pressure of a swollen, coning brainstem, you support the body and either it stops or.. it doesn't."
@WiddlinDiddlin pretty much. Depressive craniectomy (removing a portion of the skull) is an option in early damage and the skull flap is often put in the abdominal cavity to preserve it while the swelling subsides. I think this was considered for Archie but the damage was too extensive. Sometimes hypertonic saline or mannitol is given. They are both osmotic diuretics - they draw fluid out of the brain. But there has to be a blood flow to do that.

Bottom line is that there are things that can be done to reduce swelling in the brain, but if they haven't been done for Archie it will be because the damage was too bad.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/08/2022 08:04

the army are suggesting sueing the hospital and all sorts, doing things to a while mum is asleep, trying to cause all sorts

picklemewalnuts · 05/08/2022 08:07

We're very determined as a society that everyone should be dignified and gracious at all times. People who lose their temper, express unbridled emotion in public, are disapproved of. Maturity = self control etc.

I get that, I feel it strongly myself. I hate the impact this has on the staff trapped in with the family. Their incredible resilience is beyond reproach.

That said, so what if people don't conform to that! What if people express what they are feeling, the rage, distress, disbelief etc.

'Do not go gently into that long goodnight,
Rage, rage against the dying of the light!'

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/08/2022 08:07

some of the army are even suggesting she calls the police!

Because her expression of those feelings shouldn't need to accuse, hurt and lie about people who are doing their job to care for Archie.

picklemewalnuts · 05/08/2022 08:09

Maybe Mum needs to be allowed to do the care, to 'resuscitate', to do all in her power and inevitably to fail. Maybe she ne3d to scream and shout, to rage and wail.

Archie is past being hurt by it. Just protect the staff, and equipment, and let it happen.

We've detached ourselves from reality with sanitised everything.

Ms Dance has said herself (she also said it in times interview above) he was transferred for surgery.
Clearly they decided it was futile because it wouldn't "save" his brain but she seems to believe they just decided not to do it because they don't care and want his organs.

It makes you wonder how the conversation went before transfer and how she translated that.

GirlInACountrySong · 05/08/2022 08:17

Hollie and AA are saying he's having too many fluids. Hollie is saying he's not doing well he's more 'out of it' and she's checked his meds and they have concluded the hospital are trying to kill him!

society cannot, morally or legally, allow her to do this to Archie. Parents have responsibilities for her children and not rights over their children. My heart genuinely goes out to the family and I cannot imagine the pain and utter distress. I pass no judgment on them.

Soubriquet · 05/08/2022 08:20

Of course she is.

GirlInACountrySong · 05/08/2022 08:24

It seems like Archie is taking matters into his own hands

SmellyToilet · 05/08/2022 08:24

Good god, how awful.

Soubriquet · 05/08/2022 08:25

I’ve just seen the post where’s she’s claimed the hospital are killing him off.

She’s truly unhinged

What makes you say that?

Mydogisagentleman · 05/08/2022 08:27

Absolutely awful situation

I feel so sorry for his medical team .

some of the army are even suggesting she calls the police!

Just.how thick are these people?
I can,t imagine many actually doing though ,it's one thing to post vile and ignorant stuff on line but quite another to actually get off their backsides and do anything .

marcopront · 05/08/2022 08:30

MrsLargeEmbodied · 05/08/2022 08:07

some of the army are even suggesting she calls the police!

Are they making any suggestions what she should say?
So something like " the Supreme Court have said the hospital can do this but we think you should arrest them anyway."

Pansypotter123 · 05/08/2022 08:31

@whowhatwerewhy
I feel so sorry for his medical team

Likewise, and what about the other patients/families on the same ward/PICU. I hope they're being afforded the dignity they all deserve too.
