I wouldn’t be so sure. Wouldn’t surprise me if this lot turn on Holly once Archie’s life support is withdrawn. Once she sits with Archie while his life support is removed I can well imagine them to be the types who will accuse her of letting him down, of giving up, of abandoning her faith in God yada yada.

To be fair, nothing like that happened with Charlie Gard's and Alfie Evans' parents.

MayThe4th · 27/07/2022 14:03

No but they were different in that they had genetic conditions which meant they were born to die iyswim. Any inquest would have shown them to have died through natural causes.

An inquest into Archie will likely return a verdict of death by misadventure or suicide.

But even if they don’t turn, I’d imagine that by the time the inquest comes around they’ll have latched on to a new cause.

I've lost nearly all sympathy for this woman now having seen the photos of her child bloated, in a nappy and legs akimbo. She not thinking of his interests posting those or the thumbs up and big grin pictures taken next to him.
He's a human being I think this is just vile.

That is also the moment at which my sympathies evaporated, and at the beginning I was very sympathetic. For whose benefit were those photos shared? For what reason? Think back to being twelve, for a moment - almost a teenager. Consider whether or not you would have known the consquences of hanging yourself by a ligature over a staircase. I'm not saying whether you would have fully appreciated the finality of it, but just whether you would have understood the immediate effect of such an action. Now consider how you'd have felt at the prospect of such photographs of you being shared over social media to your peers and classmates.

Quia · 27/07/2022 14:20

I've also wondered about all the pictures of him with cuddly toys. If there were any genuine prospect of his waking up, he'd be absolutely mortified to think his mates had all seen those.

SunflowerGardens · 27/07/2022 14:39

@MayThe4th holy shit. Those big Christian groups freak me out. I live in Northern Ireland and there's a few massive ones and they are insidious. Ever seen The Secret? I haven't been able to look at any of the church members the same way since!

Lots of kids have soft toy and most of the ones on his bed woud've been bought by well wishers and I guess she'd want them visible when people view the videoes ?

I think the point is that there are videos being posted in the first place.

This is a child who reached such a low point that he ended his own life. And now the aftermath of the that is being plastered all over the internet.

Essentially pictures of a dead body are being shared far and wide and for what? He’s not alive. He’s attached to a machine. He’s dead. There really ought to be laws prohibiting the sharing of such images on a public platform.

Yup, and hundreds of posts from random middle aged women wanting to give him "big cuddles". His mum saying "he's never liked bath time" as proof he's not not brainstem dead because his BP changes when the HCAs wash him. It makes him sound like a toddler, not a 12 year old.

Any pre-teen would be absolutely mortified by all this.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/07/2022 15:24

No , this boy should have privacy and his Mother shouldnt be posting his videoes but there will be so many "How's Arch doin' ? " messages going on.

She wants to keep him in the public eye by whatever means she can.
Ahe wants to prove she's this protective tigress of a Mother .

It's not known yet if he did make an attempt on his own life , only Archie can answer that 100%

But there's a load of discrepancy about the 3 minutes or 40 minutes he was without oxygen
Was she there with him or was she out and came home to find him ( all this was on TV interviews )

She is clutching at straws and yes , I agree he is dead , weeks dead .

No teenage lad wants to be seen cuddling with loads of stuffed animals. It's not about what well-wishers think, these are the last images of him which have been heavily publicised.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 27/07/2022 15:30

There's always stuffed toys at a tribute site where there's been a death (usually RTA or murder)

But no , it's not what he would want in public .........though how much of this is for Archie's benefit .
It's all part of The Show , and people are contributing to it .with these gifts

1blossomtree · 27/07/2022 15:30

I can't remember the poor girl's name - but there was a teen who had life support withdrawn after it became clear she wouldn't recover after accidentally overdosing.

Her parents made a considered and careful decision to release one photo of their daughter on life support, giving her as much dignity as possible in the picture. They did this to try and prevent other teens making the same mistake.

Completely different from plastering facebook with endless undignified videos and photos.

Sure - but posting a photo of tributes to Archie which includes stuffed animals is entirely different to posting pictures of him cuddling with them in bed which he has absolutely no say in.

IIRC it was Leah Betts. (Sp?) Her death sparked a huge drug awareness campaign.

MaryBerrybus · 27/07/2022 15:36

I'm absolutely horrified at the images of this poor child lying in his hospital bed, emaciated and ventilated. Simply being a parent does not make you a sound advocate for your child, it does not put your knowledge and beliefs above multiple intensive care consultants and nurses. Shocking, so shocking. I hope he passes peacefully and his mother can come to terms with his death and find peace too. I hope the staff are not totally traumatised by what this woman is doing to them.

BREAKING: The family of Archie Battersbee has been denied permission to take their case to the UN by the Court of Appeal

MayThe4th · 27/07/2022 15:42

Hopefully that means they will withdraw the life support today?

No they still have ECHR which they had until 2pm to lodge today

BlueWhat · 27/07/2022 15:47

Omg Leah Betts was almost 30 years ago.

Her parents were amazing and strong and as a lass in my 20's, put me off ever taking ecstasy.

12 year old boys rarely do, and if they do they certainly don't normally want it publicised.

That can't be right. The UN doesn't have a court and has no say, and if they mean the ECHR, I don't think Court of Appeal has any say in that. Maybe it is the ECHR which has denied permission?

Idontevenknow · 27/07/2022 16:20

They have been given an extension of 24 hours until 2pm Thursday to decide their next steps.

Butitsnotfunnyisititsserious · 27/07/2022 16:25

I don't think they have approached the ECHR yet but are expected to.

Most likely Archie would say "What the fecks the deal with all the toys , Mum" but this is really a tiny wrong in the ShitShow that has been swirling round this boy .

As I said above , all the toys are likely for Hollie to show the world how much she's loooking after him ( as she'll be very limited in what she can do for him physically)
Doesn't make it right though , the videoes , the SM updates etc.
